Update Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Lucha Underground

Just earlier, Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet broke a bombshell story of El Hijo del Fantasma filing against El Rey Network and Baba-G Productions, the network and production company of Lucha Underground (where Fantasma has wrestled as King Cuerno for four seasons). In a statement to Lucha Central, Fantasma’s attorney (and former pro wrestling himself) Andre Verdun all but confirmed a class action lawsuit was also in the works, involving Fantasma and at least a few other LU stars. Lucha Central can now confirm those other wrestlers; in addition to Fantasma, Ivelisse Velez, Joey Ryan and Thunder Rosa (aka Kobra Moon) have all joined this class action lawsuit against El Rey and Baba-G in an attempt to get out of their contracts.

This news is not likely to be shocking. In a now deleted tweet a few weeks ago, Ivelisse (a former two time Trios Champion with Lucha Underground) vented her frustrations over not getting a release from Lucha Underground after the fourth season. Ryan offered his support for Ivelisse soon after and rumors have persisted since then that he’s been looking for a way out of his LU deal to join All Elite Wrestling. The only surprise is Thunder Rosa, who has continued to work under her Kobra Moon gimmick for the recently watched Women of Wrestling show on AXS TV. It’s possible she has been looking for a way out in order to sign full time with Ring of Honor, where she and her longtime partner Holidead have been working recently. It’s entirely possible (based on this writer’s limited knowledge of class action suits) that more LU workers could be added to this later on, though none have at this time.

Opinionated View- I remember way back when LU first came around I remember hearing about how it was going to run "Like a real TV show" and hearing about these seven season not years but seasons contract. And I told people "This will lead to a lot of unhappy wrestler at some point." And well here we are. Now look I understand you are an indy talent at the time this sounds great its a new TV show. But now in 2019 as the business is on the verge of this major change and deals are exploding you are locked in.

Even worse for people like Joey, Fantasma, and Ivelisse as I keep saying the deal is for seasons. Well there is no world on season five but they cant' do anything  until the show is cancelled and even than I think Baba-G would have the right to try and find a new network.
