Punishment Martinez officially done with ROH, Drops TV Title at Las Vegas TV tapings

Mike Johnson at PWInsider is reporting that Jeff Cobb defeated Punishment Martinez to win the Ring of Honor World Television title at Saturday night’s TV tapings in Las Vegas.

In a follow up report from PWInider, Martinez said his goodbyes to the locker room at the TV tapings, as this was his final scheduled date with ROH.

The same report also states that Martinez’s contract expired just prior to the ALL IN event in Chicago and that he opted not to sign a new deal.  In addition, WWE sources have confirmed the company has been interested in Martinez for the NXT brand and it is likely that is where he may be headed.

Opinionated Views- Big loss for ROH sadly going to stuck in the WWE storage locker before being called up to be jobbed out on the main roster also knowing WWE he will be made a generic big guy with all his cool moves gone.

Conflicting reports about WWE meeting with Impact Wrestling executives recently

Some conflicting reports have started to make the rounds within the wrestling media this week regarding the recent meeting between WWE and Impact Wrestling executives.

It was previously reported by PWInsider last week that Impact Wrestling executives Ed Nordholm and Scott D’Amore met with several “high ranking” executives from Paul “Triple H” Levesque’s team and that neither Vince McMahon or Triple H were present.

The Wrestling Observer Newsletter is now reporting that Triple H was part of the meeting held at WWE Headquarters and that it was WWE who requested the meeting, not Impact. What was actually discussed at the meeting has not been disclosed to media.

One thing that continues to be reported since news of the meeting went public was that Anthem has no interest in selling Impact Wrestling or the companies deep tape library to WWE at this time. While not confirmed, early speculation was that both sides were discussing some kind of possibility of Impact content airing on the WWE Network.

WWE confirms report that Liv Morgan suffered a concussion last night during RAW

Wrestleview.com has confirmed with WWE that Liv Morgan did indeed suffer a concussion during last night’s Monday Night RAW from Denver.
If you missed it last night, Brie was executing the “Yes Kicks” used by her husband, Daniel Bryan, and ended up connecting directly with Morgan’s face.
TMZ first reported the story, citing WWE in the article. The TMZ report noted that Morgan was later diagnosed with a concussion and is currently going through “proper protocol under the company’s comprehensive wellness program.”

Per the wellness program, Morgan will have to be medically cleared in order to return to the ring in WWE. Brie Bella issued a statement after the incident on Twitter, adding her intention is to never injure opponents and that she was thinking of Morgan last night.

While WWE has confirmed the story, they have not issued an official statement beyond an article that ran on the WWE.com last night following the incident

Updated ROH Death Before Dishonor Card

Tables Match: Flip Gordon & Colt Cabana vs. Bully Ray & Silas Young
* Kenny King vs. Jushin Liger
* CHAOS (Kazuchika Okada, Trent Baretta, Tomohiro Ishii, Rocky Romero, and Chucky T) vs. Bullet Club (The Young Bucks, Cody, Marty Scurll, and Hangman Page)
Women of Honor Championship Match: Champion Sumie Sakai vs. Tenille Dashwood
ROH TV Championship Match: Champion Punishment Martinez vs. Chris Sabin
ROH Tag Team Championship Match: Champions The Briscoes vs. The Addiction
ROH Championship Match: Champion Jay Lethal vs. Will Ospreay

Opinionated View- This is a PPV card? Tables match is trash because Bully ruins all. Liger is fine if you do what NJPW does with him and stick him tag matches singles aren't that good and feels like a real waste of King. The 10 men tag could be fun just because you got so much talent in it. If the WOH title is going to mean anything they need to put it on Dashwood. TV title match might work as a main event for a TV show on PPV not so much mainly because Sabin is just past his prime. Briscoes suck. Ospreay vs. Lethal could good but got no build.

Details On Brock Lesnar Working WWE Crown Jewel In Saudi Arabia

The latest edition of the The Wrestling Observer Newsletter (via Wrestling Inc) reports that Brock Lesnar’s return for WWE Crown Jewel was not a last minute arrangement and Lesnar’s team expected the deal to be signed during Summerslam week in August. Lesnar’s team expected Vince McMahon to make an offer for the event and Wrestlemania 35 during that time.

Lesnar hadn’t signed a UFC contract at the time, which would have allowed them to block any future WWE appearances. UFC and WWE, however, are on good working terms and it’s likely that UFC wouldn’t stop Lesnar from appearing. While it’s unknown when the WWE offer was made and signed, it was weeks ago. The details of the deal have not been revealed.

According to the report, Lesnar is looking at short-term contracts and thinks that the more he’s free, the more money he can make by playing UFC and WWE against each other to get the best deal. It’s believed he’s making seven figures for the match with Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns at Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia on November 2. There’s no word on if he’ll appear on RAW before the show to promote it.

Opinionated View- They are going to keep pumping money into this guy

NJPW DESTRUCTION in BEPPU Review

More Details on The Contract Statuses & The Futures of Pentagon & Fenix

It was reported yesterday that Pentagon & Fenix are committed to MLW though the end of 2019. PWinsider has confirmed that Pentagon & Fenix are locked into a contractual non-compete with Lucha Underground for that series until 2020. During the Impact tapings in Mexico City for TV tapings, the brothers, with the help of Konnan, entered into negotiations with Impact Wrestling for a new agreement on dates for next year that would likely see the pair get a raise. They plan to continue to split dates in Mexico between AAA and CMLL, with the goal to use the CMLL relationship with New Japan to try and get themselves into that promotion as well. They will still work indie dates when available in the US.

Masked Republic has teamed with the brothers on securing a formal trademark on “The Lucha Brothers” name and a formal registration was completed with the trademarks granted across the board. Pentagon and Fenix are also going to be a major part of the Luchaverse series of comic books released by Chido Comics in conjunction with Masked Republic.

Opinionated View- I am just glade they are going any where but WWE. Because as I have seen many times they will destroy everything that makes them cool. Fenix will put in the Lucha House party and left for dead on 205 Live. They would strip everything that makes Pentagon cool away. At best he would win up as Almas side kick.

Madison Rayne Signs With ROH

Madison Rayne announced during an appearance on The Taz Show that she has come to terms with Ring of Honor and has signed with the company to continue on as part of their Women of Honor division. Rayne had finished up with Impact Wrestling and worked the Mae Young Classic, losing in the first round.

Opinionated View- This is great for ROH. At this point WOH is really just Dashwood so getting Madison in as a regular is going to help.

Rey Mysterio Reportedly Signs Deal to Return to WWE

According to Pwinsider.com, Rey Mysterio has signed his deal to return to WWE. The deal is reportedly for 2-years. Mysterio was trying to negotiate an 18-month contract, but WWE wanted a two-year deal, finally getting it. Mysterio did work a clause into the deal that would allow him to give notice at the 18-month mark.

Opinionated View- To Rey's credit he's started to have really good matches again. And if he goes back to WWE that will stop. He will be forced back into WWE style. The injures will rack up. Plus WWE doesn't need Rey to need to focus younger talent that can be there for 10 years not hope they make it 2 years.

WWE Met With Impact Wrestling Officials at WWE HQ

WWE and Impact Wrestling had a meeting of the minds at WWE’s corporate headquarters, according to a new report. PWInsider has confirmed with multiple sources that Ed Nordholm and Scott D’Amore met with “several high-ranking WWE executives” at WWE’s corporate headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. The meeting took place last week and, while Vince McMahon was not present, members of Triple H’s team were there.

The site reports that the meeting took place after Impact officials returned from the UK and before they went to Mexico City for Impact tapings. The meeting was said to be more of a general talk about the two companies, and not any specific kind of negotation. Impact officials have declined to comment on the meetings, but one source told the site that they weren’t about any sort of sale of the company or its video library, as neither are up for sale.

WWE and Impact have been working together occasionally since Anthem Media bought the latter company, such as TNA/Impact footage being licensed for use on Hardy Boys and AJ Styles-related WWE Network content.

More on WWE winning concussion lawsuit, WWE attorney comments on possible appeals

As reported on last night, PWInsider confirmed in a new report that won a major concussion-related lawsuit brought against the company by former talent.

The 39-page ruling was issued by Judge Vanessa L. Bryant of the United States District Court of Connecticut on Monday, dismissing all lawsuits against WWE.

Three major lawsuits were involved:

* The first lawsuit was the original one, with all claims from all plaintiffs being officially dismissed with the exception of one claim by Vito LoGrasso and Evan Singleto. The final claim was later dismissed and the court is now overseeing WWE and lead attorney Konstantine Kyros over reimbursement issues.

* The second lawsuit brought by WWE against Blackjack Mulligan, Dynamite Kid, Ivan Koloff and Koko B. Ware seeking to block attempts at suing the company is also dismissed, with the court ruling that any attempts at suing the company were officially now “time-barred” in the State of Connecticut.

* The third lawsuit, considered the most important, was brought forward by 53 plaintiffs, with the lead being Joe “Road Warrior Animal” Laurinaitis. How attorney Konstantine Kyros handled this lawsuit was a major factor in having them all dismissed on Monday.

One official ruling part of the 39-pages specifically cited the WWE’s “substance dependency letters” that offers paid treatment for former talent battling addictions.

“Plaintiffs have not established that WWE had any continuing duty with respect to their health or their employment status after they left WWE. For example, Plaintiffs allege that WWE “sends substance dependency letters annually to its former performers offering free treatment, as well as community updates and quarterly royalty payments” and maintains a “Talent helpline.”   It is reasonable to infer, based on WWE’s offer to provide substance abuse treatment, that the hotline is related to substance abuse prevention or treatment. It is not reasonable to conclude from the allegations in the complaint that WWE has a continuing duty to keep itself apprised of former wrestlers’ health or to provide comprehensive health care to these wrestlers. It is similarly unreasonable to infer that retired wrestlers would not seek medical treatment from sources outside of WWE after their retirement.  Indeed, Plaintiffs do not allege that WWE purported to be their primary health care provider, or that WWE diagnosed, treated, monitored, or advised the Plaintiffs regarding their health, including their mental health, after they retired. Similarly, the Court is at a loss to imagine how continuing royalty payments give rise to any duty to the Plaintiffs regarding their alleged misclassification as independent contractors decades earlier.”

Attorney Konstantine Kyros issued this statement to PWInsider, noting he intends to head to appeals court in response to the ruling on Monday.

I stand for professional wrestlers who face the prospect of losing their identity and consciousness to the effects of a latent occupational disease that robs them of their sanity, comfort of their families and memories of everything they achieved entertaining the millions of people who love them.

The lawsuits include some of the world’s most famous athletes including those diagnosed with CTE by the world’s foremost expert in CTE, including Jimmy Snuka and Mr. Fuji, whose brains were studied because of our advocacy and dedication to getting help for former WWE performers.

The opinions expressed in today’s decision about my strong advocacy are inaccurate, bizarre and unworthy of the court. The reasoning of the opinion itself is flimsy as the court finds, in ignorance of the facts, that there is no reasonable basis for the assertions, despite a substantial body of medical peer reviewed literature going back almost a hundred years. In any event these are Jury issues as the plaintiffs demonstrated that the WWE knew about the risks of head injuries long before the 2007 date the court invents.

Additionally the WWE misclassified, exploited, injured these people in violation of labor laws and continues to ignore that CTE even exists in professional wrestling. It is a sad ruling, and we trust the wrestlers claims will be better received in the appeals courts. I will continue to fight and advocate for wrestlers legal rights despite this tragic opinion that attempts to cast down my clients hopes for better lives.”

Sincerely,
Konstantine Kyros

WWE lead attorney Jerry McDevitt issued this reply:

This is the same kind of drivel Kyros pawned off on former wrestlers when soliciting them to sue WWE by false statements that he had obtained a billion dollar settlement for NFL players and would do the same for wrestlers, when in fact he had absolutely nothing to do with getting that settlement. He was caught repeatedly making false allegations; has been admonished repeatedly by federal judges about his dishonest behavior; and has now been subjected to two different sanction orders of the kind that would make most lawyers embarrassed and ashamed. The rant he sent you now insults the federal judge who issued the decision, and he still fails to address the basis of her opinion. He may well have been able to mislead those he solicited to join his lawsuits, but he will never succeed in misleading us or federal judges. Frankly, he should be disbarred.

WWE announces Crown Jewel event in Saudi Arabia on November 2 on the WWE Network

WWE announced on Monday night that the company would be returning to Saudi Arabia on November 2 for an event they are calling Crown Jewel.

The event, which will stream live on the WWE Network, will be taking place in Riyadh live from the King Fahd International Stadium.

WWE is already advertising a triple threat match for the Universal Championship featuring Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar vs. Braun Strowman. Also scheduled for the show is the start of a first-ever WWE World Cup Tournament as well.

WWE Crown Jewel set for November 2 in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA and STAMFORD, Conn. — The Saudi General Sports Authority, in partnership with WWE, will present WWE Crown Jewel at the King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on Friday, November 2, including a Universal Championship Triple Threat Match featuring Roman Reigns, Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman, and the first-ever WWE World Cup tournament to determine the best in the world.

General Sports Authority of Saudi Arabia Chairman His Excellency Turki Al Sheikh, WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia invite the world to celebrate this signature event. Following WWE’s sold-out Greatest Royal Rumble in Jeddah in April, this is the second event as part of a long-term partnership between WWE and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

WWE Crown Jewel will stream live on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view outside of the Middle East. Ticket availability and regional broadcast information will be announced in the coming weeks.

Opinionated View- So like a week after the "Historic" Evolution PPV they go back over to a country for event the woman won't get to be on. Also a 3 with Brock, Roman, and Strowman its going to suck.

WWE Scores Definitive Win in Concussion Lawsuit

– WWE has been cleared in the concusssion-related lawsuits filed against them. All of the lawsuits were officially dismissed on Monday, according to PWInsider. US District Court Judge Vanessa L. Bryant filed a thirty-nine page ruling dismissing all of the suits, which had been brought by a variety of former performers against the company.

The lawsuits had been filed alleging that WWE failed to protect the talents’ health in regard to concussions, CTE and other head-trauma related injuries. The most notable of the lawsuits was filed in July of 2016 and featured forty-one former performers.

The lawsuits had suffered an increasing number of setbacks over the last year or so, with Bryant ordering Konstantine Kyros, the plaintiffs’ lawyer, to file an amended claim in September or lose the case. In addition, a similar lawsuit filed by Kyros on behalf of Vito LoGrasso and Evan Singleton saw the final complaint dismissed in March.

Opinionated View- Doesn't shock me at all. When ever I see these lawsuits its always guys that wrestled in am any different companies. How can you say "Well it was WWE the real damage as done in."

Update on Jeff Jarrett vs. Anthem Lawsuit: Anthem files motion in Tennessee for extension

In an update regarding Jeff Jarrett and Global Force Entertainment LLC (Global Force Wrestling) filing a lawsuit against Anthem last month, PWInsider reports that Anthem requested an extension with the United States District Court of Tennessee.

Anthem is requesting for time to “properly respond” to the lawsuit brought forth by Jarrett and GFE. Attorneys for Jarrett have already agreed to the extension. Anthem has asked the court give them until October 15 to file a response.

As reported back in August, Jarrett filed a 26-page lawsuit against Anthem (the parent company of Impact Wrestling) claiming Anthem violated state and federal trademark infringements in relation to Global Force Wrestling/Global Force Entertainment.

While Anthem has yet to fully respond, the company did pull any Global Force Wrestling related DVD releases from the ShopImpact.com website recently.

Vince McMahon Reportedly Impressed With Andrade Almas

Acceding to Fightful, Vince McMahon is reportedly very impressed with Smackdown star Andrade Almas following his recent work with AJ Styles & Daniel Bryan. The site says that Vince will just see someone and say “I want them up here,” without having any semblance of a plan. Almas was put in a spot where he wasn’t expected to shine the way he did, but he made an impression, and that’s typically the way that McMahon ends up taking notice of talent from NXT.

Opinionated View- Almas has been with the WWE since 2015. Vince should noticed him YEARS ago.

Gate and PPV Sale Information on ALL IN

11,263 fans packed the Sears Center this past Saturday for All In.

According to the Wrestling Observer, the gate for the event totaled $458,525. For comparison, and to show how underpriced tickets were for All In, a 2011 Strikeforce event headlined by Fedor Emelianenko and Dan Henderson at the same arena drew 8,311 fans for a gate of $638,000.

Between All In and Starrcast, FITE TV pulled in over $1 million in iPPV sales. That works out to 20,000-25,000 iPPV buys between the two events. This doesn't factor in ROH Honor Club purchases or traditional pay-per-view numbers, which are not available at this time.

As previously reported, Pro Wrestling Tees pulled in nearly half a million dollars in sales from the weekend. Fans waited in line at merchandise stands for nearly an hour at the event. The official event shirt sold out 90-minutes prior the start of the show.

All In Zero Hour averaged 196,000 viewers on WGN America.

Saturday's show was billed as the Biggest Independent Wrestling Show in History. The event was a success across the board, both in the ring and out.

Opinionated View- And I still see butt hurt WWE sheep trying to claim this even didn't do that well.

Viewership Revealed For All In: Zero Hour on WGN

According to Show Buzz Daily, Saturday’s All In: Zero Hour pre-show (which aired at 6PM ET prior to the PPV) averaged 196,00 viewers. It ranked 85th for the day on cable and was the only show from WGN America to make the top 150 list. For a comparison, last week’s Impact did 225,000 viewers.

Opinionated View- When you look at the factors of first time show, network that isn't super popular, up against college football kickoff not a prime time spot that is actually a really good number

All In Review

All In Draws More Than 10,000 Attendance

The official Twitter account for ALL IN tweeted out what appears to be the final attendance figure for the ground-breaking independent event in Chicago this past Saturday.

Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks had set a goal to sell 10,000 tickets at the Sears Centre and accomplished just that in just 29 minutes and 36 seconds back in May.

Not only did they sell 10,000 tickets, the final attendance figure was 11,263 according to the events official Twitter account in a graphic released on Tuesday afternoon.

Seth Rollins Possibly Injured on Raw

– Seth Rollins may have come away from last night’s WWE Raw with an injury. During the big main event beat down, Rollins was tossed from the stage into the police van, and his arm smashed the window during that and was bleeding badly after. WWE has not released an official injury update on Rollins at this time…

ALL IN News and Notes

Some news and notes from ALL IN this past Saturday courtesy of PWInsider.

* When ALL IN went off the air, The Young Bucks addressed the crowd and joked about how they almost didn’t get in the finish before the PPV was set to close. The Kenny Omega vs. Pentagon Jr. and Kazuchika Okada vs. Marty Scurll matches went longer than originally planned forcing the main event to end just seconds before the PPV came to a close.

* Attending the show live, it was painfully obvious how rushed the entrances were for the six man main event and you could see production signaling to both Matt and Nick Jackson to go home. Nick said the show ended with exactly three seconds to spare.

* ALL IN was described as the most successful iPPV event FITE has ever carried.

* Fans who bought merchandise had “Ring of Honor” come up for the official charges.

* Ring of Honor’s production team was used for the event, indicating the company played a much bigger role than some might have been expecting.

Opinoianted View- I'm sure the WWE sheep will use teh fact ROH was involved as away to run the event down saying "See they had help." I would still say even with some ROH's help this was still an indy event. Cody and the Bucks still put this all together. It wasn't ROH's money on the line. And what did you expect you need a lot of people to put on PPV.

Its to bad the six man got cut short because it was good but rushed. More time would have helped. But this was a great event a success on every level.
