As we reported earlier this week, Dean Ambrose recently gave his notice to WWE that he would be leaving the company after his contract expires in April. WWE ended up confirming the news in an article on WWE.com, which has led to speculation about why they would do that. PW Torch’s Wade Keller speculated the the reason they confirmed the story was that it was too big for the company to ignore.
He said that WWE has to answer to the media and investors when rumors of a top star leaving begin to circulate, especially when it’s a guy like Ambrose, who has been in the upper card for over five years. He said that WWE may have wanted to take control of the situation rather than let the rumors and speculation get out of hand.
He said: “I mean can they ignore it? I’m sure there’s an internal discussion. It doesn’t come up much that a story of that magnitude gets out there without their controlling it. So maybe putting the statement out was just a way to grab the reins and say, ‘Alright we’re a little in control of this because we’re going to own what the truth is."
