ROH TV Report: AJ Styles vs Matt Sydal

This week’s show starts off with Matt Sydal in the locker room. He says that it is his pleasure to come back to Ring of Honor. He says that he felt lost floating in the sea in the world of wrestling. He says that he is grateful that Ring of Honor is still here as a place where he can put his heart into everything. He will exhibit that tonight. A.J. Styles, you are a phenomenal competitor. You might be the best in the world. Tonight, you are not A.J. Styles and he is not Evan Bourne. Tonight, he is Reborn and he faces A.J. Styles and he faces fear. He puts it all out there tonight for the Ring of Honor fans, himself, and for A.J. Styles. You will see the rebirth. It is inside him and you will see it against A.J. Styles tonight.
We are in Wheeling, West Virginia and your announcers are Kevin Kelly and Truth Martini.
Match Number One: Mark Briscoe versus Caprice Coleman
They lock up and Mark takes Caprice to the mat but Caprice with a head scissors. Mark escapes. Caprice with a side head lock take down and Mark with a head scissors. Mark with a side head lock take down. Mark with a shoulder tackle and he poses. Caprice tells Mark to go off the ropes and Coleman with a few arm drags. Mark misses a punch and Caprice misses a one inch punch.
Caprice with a take down and Mark with a knee and punches. Caprice holds on to the ropes and Coleman gets a boot up. Mark with a clothesline that sends Caprice over the top rope to the floor and then he hits a drop kick through the ropes. Mark sets for the Cactus Jack Bang Bang Elbow drop off the apron but Caprice gets to his feet. Caprice with the one inch punch and he returns to the ring.
Mark gets to the apron and he shows the effects of the punch. Caprice with a corkscrew Asai Moonsault onto Mark. Coleman sends Mark into the ring and he gets a near fall. Coleman with a rana and he gets a near fall. Coleman punches Briscoe followed by an Irish whip but Mark with a forearm out of the corner. Mark with an Irish whip and clothesline to Coleman in the corner. Mark gets a near fall.
Mark punches Coleman but Coleman with a kick and springboard cross body. Coleman with an STO and he gets a near fall. Coleman tries for a snap mare driver but Mark holds on to the ropes. Mark with chops to Coleman and he lands on his feet on a back body drop. Mark with a belly-to-back suplex set up into a uranage. Coleman with the rolling Northern Lights and he hits three of them for a near fall.
Mark moves out of the way when Coleman goes for a splash into the corner and Mark with a Death Valley Driver. Mark goes up top but Coleman recovers with a leaping rana. Coleman with a running snap mare driver for a near fall. Coleman goes up top but Mark moves. Coleman rolls through and Briscoe with chops. Coleman with a kick and elbow. Mark with more chops but Coleman with a one inch punch and kicks. Briscoe with a Saito suplex. Mark gets Coleman up for a Burning Hammer and the three count.
Winner: Mark Briscoe
We go to commercial.
We are back and Nigel McGuinness is in the ring and he wants Tommaso Ciampa to come to the ring.
Ciampa comes to the ring without any music.
Ciampa says that he is so happy that Nigel asked him to come out to explain himself.
Nigel says that Tommaso does not listen. There is a time for talking and a time for listening and for Tommaso, this is a time for listening. He wants to make sure there is no confusion as to why he was suspended. It was due to an unprovoked attack on Bobby Cruise and almost to Kevin Kelly. Nigel says the officials are at ringside because they don’t feel safe with Ciampa around.
Nigel says that Tommaso apologized and while he does not condone what Ciampa did, he knows how important the World Title is. He will reinstate Ciampa next week, but with a zero tolerance policy. If he lays his hand on Kevin Kelly, ‘that guy’ Bobby Cruise, or any staff member in Ring of Honor, you will be fired and you will never work again.
Ciampa says that he understands and he is so happy that we could come to a peaceful resolution. He says that he is not a bad guy. He tells Nigel that he can finally sleep at night knowing that next week on Ring of Honor television it will be the Sicilian Psychopath against Jay Briscoe for the Ring of Honor World Title.
Nigel tells Ciampa that just because he is reinstated, he does not go back to the top of the ladder. You have to work your way up from the bottom.
Ciampa says that he has been working his way up from the bottom for five years. He does not understand why he has to listen to Nigel to tell him where his career is going. He will tell Nigel where his career is going.
Nigel says that Tommaso will not tell him a damn thing.
Ciampa says that if this was 2008 with the bleach blonde hair and a vicious lariat, maybe he would believe a word that Nigel is saying. Nigel can say that he knows what it is like to want the Ring of Honor title, he doesn’t understand what it is like to quit. Ciampa says that he mans up every day. That is why he would love for Jay Briscoe to put up his title.
Jay Briscoe comes out and he tells Ciampa that he is not a hard man to find and he enters the ring. He says that he does not appreciate Ciampa disrespecting Nigel.
Ciampa says that all he hears from Jay Briscoe is ‘man up’ and ‘day one’. According to him, this is Day 2,806 in Ring of Honor and this is the first time that you have set foot in the ring with the Sicilian Psychopath. You talk about manning up and let’s see if the Unpinned and Untouchable Jay Briscoe can stand toe to toe with him. He says that Jay has been protected.
Jay says that they can do this right now, but Nigel says that this is not happening because Ciampa has not been reinstated. He tells Ciampa to get out of the ring or he will not get a chance.
Ciampa tells Jay to enjoy his bubble. Jay tells Ciampa to get out of the ring like the little bitch you are.
Nigel tells Ciampa if he touches a referee, he is done.
Michael Bennett, Adam Cole, Matt Taven, and Maria Kanellis-Bennett make their way to the ring and attack Jay from behind while the officials care more about making sure that Tommaso Ciampa is escorted from the ring.
Cole kicks Jay in the corner and they hit a triple super kick and Jay goes down.
Mark Briscoe comes out and attacks Cole from behind. Taven, Cole, and Bennett take control and Bennett hits Mark with the furry belt. Cole blows a kiss to Mark and then he hits a super kick. Bennett picks up Mark and puts him on his shoulders for a Doomsday Device from Taven.
We go to commercial.
We are back and BJ Whitmer tells Adam Page that he has learned from the entire decade. Tonight, he is giving Adam the opportunity to show that all of the squats, workouts, late night drives, and dues that you have been paying are worth it. He wants BJ to show him what he has learned. He is part of BJ’s team tonight.
Adam says that he will not let him down.
We have a moments ago moment of what just happened with Tommaso Ciampa, The Briscoes, and The Kingdom.
Jimmy Jacobs joins Kevin and Truth at the announce table for the next match.
Match Number Two: Bob Evans and Cheeseburger versus Adam Page and BJ Whitmer (with Jimmy Jacobs)
Whitmer tells Page to start things off against Evans. Page pulls up his knee pads before locking up. Evans with a wrist lock and hammer lock and Page tries to reverse but Evans knows what is coming and he holds on to the hammer lock. Page with an elbow and punch to escape the hold. Evans goes for the arm again but Page gets to the ropes. Page pushes Evans and Evans pushes back. Page with a knee and Evans with a slam and he tags in Cheeseburger who Evans slams onto Page and he gets a near fall.
Page pushes Cheeseburger against the ropes and Whitmer with a knee and Page with a forearm. Whitmer tags in and he sends Cheeseburger into the corner and chops him. Page tags in and they kick Cheeseburger in the corner. Page slaps Cheeseburger and then he sends Cheeseburger face first into the mat and he gets a near fall.
Page tries for a slam but Cheeseburger escapes and he makes the tag to Evans. Evans with punches and kicks. Evans with a running butt splash into the corner followed by a bulldog. Evans punches Whitmer and Page hits Evans from behind. Evans with an arm bar submission but Whitmer breaks up the hold. Cheeseburger tags in.
Cheeseburger gets on Evans’ back and they hit a splash into the corner and then Cheeseburger grabs Page for a running stunner but Page kicks out. Whitmer hits Evans from behind and then he punches Cheeseburger. Page with crossfaces to Cheeseburger and then he gets Cheeseburger up for a Jig n’Tonic and the three count.
Winners: Adam Page and BJ Whitmer
After the match, Page gets Cheeseburger up again and he hits another Jig n’Tonic.
We go to commercial.
Match Number Three: Matt Sydal versus A.J. Styles
They lock up and Sydal with a waist lock. Styles with a standing switch but Sydal with a drop toe hold. Styles escapes the hold and retreats into the corner. They lock up again and Styles with an arm bar but Sydal backs Styles into the corner. Sydal with a clean break. They lock up again and Styles backs Sydal into the corner but Sydal turns Styles around in the corner. Sydal with a side head lock take down out of the corner.
Styles rolls Sydal up for a near fall. Sydal with a side head lock take down. Styles with a punch but Sydal with a waist lock. Styles with a snap mare but Sydal lands on his feet. Styles drops down but Sydal does not go over. Sydal goes for a head lock but Styles moves out of the way and Styles with the side head lock on Sydal.
Styles with a wrist lock and Sydal rolls through and he reverses into an arm drag but Styles with a rollup for a near fall. We go to commercial.
We are back and Styles with a back breaker and Sydal goes to the ropes. Styles sends Sydal into the turnbuckles and he tries for another back breaker but Sydal counters into a head scissors. Sydal with a springboard cross body but Styles catches him and hits a uranage back breaker. Styles holds on to Sydal and hits another uranage back breaker but this time onto his own back. Sydal with forearms to the knees but Styles with a forearm to the back. Sydal with kicks to the leg. Sydal sends Styles to the apron and A.J. with a springboard forearm.
Styles with a bow and arrow on Sydal but Matt is able to escape and he gets a lateral press for a near fall. Styles with a kick to the back. Styles tries for a suplex but Sydal goes for the leg and knee followed by a kick to the leg. Styles with a forearm to the back. Sydal with a crucifix bomb and both men are down.
Sydal goes for a clothesline into the corner but Styles moves. Styles goes for an inverted DDT but Sydal reverses and hits the Slice. Sydal cannot take advantage of the situation. Sydal with kicks to the chest and leg. Styles blocks a kick and he connects with forearms and kicks to Sydal.
Sydal escapes a suplex and then Sydal hits a leaping knee to the head. Sydal with a springboard head scissors that sends Styles to the floor. Sydal goes for an Asai Moonsault but Styles hits Sydal from behind and Sydal lands hard on the apron. Styles limps around but he picks up Sydal for a pump handle back breaker. Styles with a belly-to-back set up into a front driver and he gets a near fall.
Styles goes up top but Sydal recovers and crotches Styles. Sydal climbs the turnbuckles and he goes for a super rana but Styles escapes and crotches Sydal. Styles puts Sydal on the turnbuckles for a German superplex but Sydal with elbows and then he hits the leaping double knee splash and gets a near fall.
Sydal with a running clothesline into the corner and Sydal goes to the turnbuckles and he picks up Styles. Sydal goes for a superples but Styles holds on to the ropes. Styles tries to counter into a super Styles Clash. Sydal blocks Styles and Sydal goes for a rana. Sydal is able to escape the hold. Styles with a punch and Sydal with an enzuigiri. Sydal goes up top.
Sydal misses a Shooting Star Press when Styles moves. Styles picks up Sydal but Sydal tries to block the Styles Clash. Styles with a Ganso Bomb followed by the Styles Clash for the three count.
Winner: A.J. Styles
We go to credits with Truth Martini walking to the back with Matt Sydal.
