Update on Cody Rhodes Not Being Able to Use His Name in TNA

According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Cody Rhodes cannot use the “Rhodes” name in TNA (and other places) because WWE trademarked the name, and also because Cody did not use the identity prior to wrestling for WWE.

His wife Brandi, who signed with TNA, will be going by “Brandi Rhodes” because WWE doesn’t own the name. During her tenure in WWE, she was named “Eden Stiles,” which is the name WWE has trademarked.

When the couple arrives in TNA, they are reportedly going to feud with Mike Bennett and Maria. While Cody cannot use the Rhodes name, TNA can bill the couple as “Cody & Brandi Rhodes” for their mixed tag matches, since he will be going by “Cody” on television.
