According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, here is the latest on the future of Lucha Underground. They have been renewed for a second season on El Rey, but the feeling is that the current combination of running on El Rey and Unimas will only result in further financial losses.
Producer Eric Van Wagenen was on Steve Austin’s podcast and stated that they could do a second season on El Rey, but that they need new funding. The thing that would change the game for the promotion would be a deal with Televisa in Mexico. The rights fees for the deal would greatly help the promotion, and a deal would have given them more exposure than any promotion in Mexico. The two sides have been in talks and they were reportedly close to a deal last month, but nothing has been signed.
Talent had previously been told that they would tape in September, but some of the contracted wrestlers have been told that they could take weekend dates that month.
* Here is the updated card for Ultima Lucha, which will air in two parts on July 29th and August 5th…
– Blue Demon Jr vs. Texano
– Pentagon Jr. vs. Vampiro
– Drago vs. Hernandez
– Alberto El Patron vs. Johnny Mundo
– Lucha Underground Trios Title Match: Champions Ivelisse, Son of Havoc and Angelico vs. The Disciples of Death
– Lucha Underground Title Match: Champion Prince Puma vs. Mil Muertes
Opinionated View- Here is an idea to save money cut down on the overly produced cramp backstage you don't need elaborate sets and cut on the special effects BS. Aldo get rid of guys like Blue Demon I'm sure he costs a lot but he brings nothing. Also get rid of El Patron again costs a long brigs nothing.
Card for Ultimate Lucha looks blah. Texano is a good talent but even he won't be able to get anything out of Demon. And the story makes no damn sense. Texano goes after Chavo. Demon who had been taken out by Chavo suddenly turns heel. Poor Pentagon he's got talent but he gets stuck in this awful feud. I'm sure someone is about to post "Vampiro is legend." Vampiro is NOT a legend. He had a couple of big years in Mexico but no one ever thought he was great. He was that guy few cared about in WCW. Now he's just a fat old man.
Dragon is good but after the stuff that went down this week I have no desire to see Hernadez. I hate El Patron he's boring his matches suck and I'm sick of watching this guy. Poor Mundo he left WWE to avoid working with guys like El Patron. The Trios champs story is so dman stale they fight and fight have big win but still fight. The DoD have had one match so it makes no sense they are getting a title shot.
Main event should be good. But here's the fact name one thing about Puma's gimmick? Guess what he doesn't have a gimmick because all the promos and storyline build this season have been about Konnan. Puma like the robot from Real Steel he never talk or does anything with out direction. Muertes is good but I'm sure LU will do some special effect BS to make this lame.
