3/25 WWE NXT Report

We open to shots and highlights of NXT in Columbus last week. Each match is recapped, which is cool and not something I’ve ever seen done before.

NXT Women’s Championship: Sasha Banks (c) vs. Alexa Bliss
Sasha Banks delivers trash talk from the bell. Alexa Bliss is quick to some rollup near falls, frustrating the champion. Some more sloppiness from Alexa. She gets in a few more quick pins before running into a big boot from Sasha. She then stands on Bliss’ fingers and steals her taunt. A running slap follows before more taunt stealing. She does her double knee drop in the corner, which Corey Graves calls his favorite thing in NXT. Sasha moves to a submission, telling Alexa “you’re not even in my league.” Alexa fights out, trying another rollup but it gets blocked so she moves to a small package for two. Bliss nails a headscissors before sending Sasha outside and she hits HARD. We nearly get a countout, in a nice callback to last week, so Bliss stops that. Inside, she hits a sloppy Thez Press before a slap and forearm. She sweeps the leg and the Glitz Flip for a near fall. Sunset flip bomb in the corner gets two. Best move she’s done so far. She climbs to the top but Sasha stops her, slamming her to the mat. Bank Statement is locked in and Alexa taps.

Kevin Owens cuts a promo about how he and Finn Balor have made an impact. Finn did it by painting himself, but Owens did it by winning the NXT Title in two months. He wants Finn to bring the demon. We then go to a video package pumping the main event.
Backstage, Bayley is texting or tweeting when Emma comes up to her. She says “I told you so” about Bayley being too nice to succeed. In her mind, Bayley needs to be aggressive because the NXT crowd will fool her, the same way she was fooled. Bayley talks back and gets slapped.
Devin Taylor interviews Tyler Breeze. He badmouths her and calls Hideo Itami “Hide-ous”. Hideo interrupts and challenges him to a 2 out of 3 Falls match.
A vignette airs for Dana Brooke. She talks about how built she is.
WrestleMania promos airs, running down the card and WrestleMania week on the WWE Network.
Devin Taylor interviews Finn Balor about what Kevin Owens said earlier. He says that he doesn’t need the demon to beat him before we go to a Balor promo video.
Enzo Amore, Carmella and Big Cass are talking backstage when Blake and Murphy interrupt to apologize to Carmella for her falling off the apron last week. They bought her jeweler that she considers fabulous. Enzo and Cass diss the gift saying it’s fake.

NXT Championship: Kevin Owens (c) vs. Finn Balor
No paint for FInn Balor tonight. Kevin Owens does his trademark step out of the ring early before a cheap kick allows him a headlock. The pace quickens as Balor connects on a beautiful dropkick, causing Owens to regroup outside. Back from commercial and Balor is in control, working the arm. He counters a sunset flip with a dropkick before going back to the arm. Balor gets in a right hand and tries to suplex Owens but gets his neck snapped on the top rope. Owens now grinds Balor to the mat for a bit. He’s still in a headlock as we go to commercial. Back, Owens sends Balor outside and pounds away on him. He goes for the apron powerbomb but Balor counters with a backdrop. Inside, Balor makes the mistake of trying a cross body and getting brutalized by Owens instead for a near fall. A running senton earns another near fall as Owens tries to pick apart Balor. Owens sends Balor into the corner so hard, it sounds like a gunshot. He talks smack before posing for the fans. A big suplex gets two again, as Balor shows his resiliency. Another chinlock gets a pop as we go to a commercial. The commercial promotes Itami/Breeze next week. Returning, Balor fires off some shots and then backdrops Owens outside. He follows with his gorgeous front flip, but is showing the pain of the match. Balor climbs to the top, hitting the double stomp to a hunched over Owens for two. PELE from Balor as he looks to be on his way to a comeback. He hits a big corner chop, sends Owens into the opposite corner and misses one. Owens hits a big chop of his own but charges into Slingblade. He hits a clothesline that turns Owens inside out and Bloody Sunday gets two. Finn misses the corner dropkick and seems to injure his knee. Like a shark smelling blood, Owens kicks the leg like Owen Hart at Royal Rumble 1994. Owens just continues to obliterate the knee. He goes to a single leg crab in the middle of the ring. Balor counters the powerbomb with a sweep and double foot stomp! Owens goes up top, eating an enziguri. Balor  wants a superplex but it is countered into a huge suplex of Owens’ own. You have to see it to believe it but it’s only a near fall. Balor gets in a kick but again, Owens chop blocks Finn. He charges with his corner cannonball before going back to work on the knee. He ties the leg up and cannonballs the knee! Brilliant. He tries a third but Balor dodges. Running corner dropkick works, though he sells the leg as he climbs the top. His stomp connects but he can’t cover instantly because his knee is busted. He walks right into the popup powerbomb and this is over.
