The summer of 2009 in TNA had some strong points and it had some weak points. Strong points were things like a best of seven series with AJ Styles and Matt Morgan, The rise of the Beer Money and the British Invasion . Weak points were the dragging on MEM story including Samoa Joe joining the group even though his actions again the vets is what led to it forming. Bobby Lashley arriving and getting the same Super Face Treatment hew was getting in the WWE. And than there was stuff no one saw coming. Jeff Jarrett was sent home killing off several planned story lines with him when it came to light was dating Kurt Angle's ex-wife Karen. Angelina Love the top Knockout in the company was suddenly released due to an issue with her Visa. So with the September PPV upon them TNA was moving quick to get ready for Bound for Glory that year. So how did they do?
Or opening video highlights the various ongoing issues in TNA. Kurt Angle having led Matt Morgan. Homicide turning on Hernandez to join world elite. The best of Sven series with AJ and Morgan. Decent opening video nothing to special. Mike Tenay hypes the four way for the world title and how the power and control is on the line. Taz and Tenay talk about the tournament to crown the Knockouts Tag Team champions.
TNA Knockouts Tag Team Titles The Beautiful People Velvet Sky and Madison Rayne vs Taylor Wilde and Sarita- Originally it had been Velvet and Angelina Love. When the tournament started they were doing a storyline where Madison had been kicked out of the BP's after she cost Angelina the KO's title by mistake. She made up with them. As I mentioned something had gone on with Angelina's visa. I don't' recall if were ever found out what exactly but of course she wold return. Mike Tenay address it but just say it's business issues that have led to her release. Before the match Earl Hebner comes out and sends referee Slick to the back because he was the 2009 version of Brain Stifler. Drop-kick by Sarita sends Madison to the floor. Power slam by Taylor on Velvet. Taylor picks Sarita up and slams her on Velvet for a pin that gets two.Roll up by Sarita gets two than a back slide. Another roll up by Sarita and Madison breaks it up. Taylor into the ring and the faces hit a double team back elbow. Sarita back drop suplex Taylor on Velvet for two. Tilta a while back breaker by Taylor on Madison. Velvet breaks up the pin. All four Knockouts in. Series of drop kick put down the BP's. Springboard dropkick by Sarita in combo with a german suplex by Wilde for the win. Pretty good opener. I think the late change from Angelina to Madison through it off as Madison and Velvet just didn't click right away like Angelina did with Velvet. Also I think maybe some of the planned spots were tossed out and altered.
Taz and Tenay run down the card for the rest of the show an announce the just added Pope vs Suicide falls count anywhere match. They of course point out in the main event Angle doesn't have to lose the fall to lose his title. Tenay tosses back to Lauren who is with Sarita and Taylor Wilde. Taylor says she knew this would happen when she started teaming with Sarita. Sarita calls Taylor he best tag partner ever. Nice little segment to put over the new champions. I know some hated the KO tag belts. Really I think TNA at one point could have pulled it off but it was never going to be a big deal even the KO roster at it's best.
JB is with the World Elite faction. Eric Young is in in a suite and not dressed to wrestle. JB asks about Young's hopes that Hernandez will join World Elite. Kioyshi shoves JB out of the way and takes over the interview. EY says both he and Hernandez know what's it like to be the outsider. Eric Young points out even Hernandez own brother Homicide had joined. Homicide warns Hernandez to join. Eric says he will not fight Hernandez to prove he's on the level. Eric Young says he will take it. I really like the World Elite faction. I know a lot of people never gave it chance because it was Eric Young leading it. So I guess the IWC thinks you can never change your gimmick?
Eric Young vs Hernandez- Eric Young had turned heel and fired World Elite a faction made p of wrestlers from all over world. He had been trying to get Hernandez to join. After Hernandez refused Young cost him a shot at the world title and had gotten Homicide to turn on his LAX partner. Young comes out in a suite and tie. Hernandez comes out with his feast or fired. Stiff forearm by Hernandez once he gets in the ring. Young dropped by a clotheslines to the back of the head. Flying shoulder block by Hernandez sends EY to the floor. Head butt to the chat by Hernandez than he hits the border toss for the win. Well Savage vs Steamboat that wasn't. This was all about showing how dominated Hernandez could be but it also protects Young since he really lose.
JB is with Matt Morgan. JB talks about Angle putting Morgan through the announce table on Impact. Morgan says the head games are over just pure violence. Morgan says this is all about him and Angle. Morgan compares himself and Angle to through breeds. Morgan says he all rip the torch from Angle's hands. Its a solid promo by Morgan. He and Angle would meet one on one at BFG so he obviously needs to get people fired up about that idea.
X-Division Championship Samoa Joe © vs Christopher Daniels- Joe had turned on the Frontline witch Daniels had been a part off.Joe had regained the X-Division title the same night Daniels earned a title shot. A big part of the hype is the face its the renewal of a old feud. They also played up there real life friendship and had Daniels bring up Joe's family not knowing him any more because he had changed so much lately. JOe is play poison and tosses Daniels into the ring post and than the ring side steps. Daniels on the apron and Joe whips out the legs and Daniels falls hard. Joe works over Daniels left leg. A very good match it doesn't match the brutal classic matches of the past in TNA but its on par with any of there ROH work.
JB is with Mick Foley who is in his office. Foley is upset and shows someone had destroyed the Tweet and Tweak drawing JB had given him. To explain JB had become Foley's little buddy and had given him the picture. JB says he can get another copy to the drawn. Foley says you can't just copy something it be like someone copying his mannerisms. Foley says he will find out who did this after he calls the match with Kevin Nash and Abyss. Taz says Mick is over reacting since it was just a silly cartoon photo. Tenay admit Foley is taking it personally. Ok this might seem like some kind pointless segment but Foley was actually getting up a feud with a Abyss. That' why he include the line about copying him (Foley) it would be relived that Abyss had destroyed the picture by mistake but Foley was taking it to personally and refused to let it go.
Lauren is with the Pope. Lauren says it was an outcry from the fans that wanted to see another match between these two. Pope brags about beating up "Suicidey." Pope rants about management telling him what to do. Pope than starts to plug something from Stacker but Suicide comes up behind him and jumps him beginning our next match.
Falls Count Anywhere Suicide vs Da Pope D'Angelo Dinero - The Pope had comes to TNA the month before both he and Suicide had been in the Steel Asylum. Pope had a chance to win but chose to inflict more damage on Suicide. The idea was Suicide had claimed to be a savior and Pope resented that as wanted people to follow him. At this time Frankie Kazarian had taken over the Suicide gimmick again. I love they started this as a brawl int he back after all its a falls count anywhere match why wait for entrances. Pope quickly became one of TNA's best acts sadly he was also one of the first victims of the Hogan era.
TNA Knockouts Champion ODB vs Cody Deaner- If you don't remember Cody Deaner you are lucky! He was a redneck character who came into have a romance with ODB. When ODB was feuding with Angelina Love a mixed tag match with Denaer teaming with ODB against the BP's was signed with the title on the line. When Madison's interference backfired Deaner rolled up Velvet and won the match and thus began clamming he was the champion. Deaner to the top rope and goes for the Superfly splash. ODB moves. ODB with the TKO for the win. Its an ok comedy match. You can't go into this expecting a classic. But at best it's ok. Its one of those matches most people just black out until some idiot reviews the show it was on…
Lauren comes out to interview ODB. ODB says she wasn't to let Deaner have the title. ODB says she doesn't like all the broads in the back but puts over all hard they all work. ODB with a shout out for all over fans especially the ones in prison. Decent post match promo.

Even one turned int a "riot." The idea was TNA Management ordered this match to try and settle things. I believe this is the only time Lethal Lockdown has been held on a non Lockdown event. I'm ok with it this one time given how intense this four way feud had become but kind of like the Royal Rumble it should only be a once a year thing. The heel team has the numbers advantage. Good match I like the stuff they did with Ray entrance instead of the usual fresh guy charges right in. Instead it makes things seem even harder for the faces. It does lack a big high spot like past Lethal Lockdowns have had but still a very good match.
Lauren is with Rhino. Lauren actually refers to Lashley as the best MMA fighter in the world…. HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! Oh my god was that supposed to rib? Did she blow the line? I think at this time Lashley was undefeated in MMA but wasn't even top 50 he had won a few fights on the Strikeforce Challenger cards. There is hyping guys up and than there is being insane. Lauren mentions Lashley declined to comment. Rhino starts running down MMA and says he doesn't care about what Lashley has done in MMA. Rhino says he will rip Lashley in half with a Gore Gore GORE! Its a good intense promo. Taz and Tenay put over the Lethal Lockdown with Taz saying matches like that are why he came to TNA. They than recap the action earlier in the night. This is more about giving the team time to tear down the cage.
Rhino vs Bobby Lashley- Rhino had turned as months of frustration mounted. It was a good time to make change since he had been face for nearly three years. Lashley picks Rhino up and hits a drop down. Rhino has busted open. Lashley goes for a spear. Rhino pulls the referee in front of him to take the shot. Gore by Rhino. Another ref in 1 and 2 and Lashley kicks out. Not really a fan of that since it kills Rhino's finish. I would have rather there had been more of delay. Even bring up the idea Rhino move had backfired since the ref couldn't count the pin fall. Rhino goes for a another gore but runs into a big right hand. Lashley covers and gets the win. This match is ok but I know both guys could do better. I don't know if was just unfamiliarity. I also don't like Lashley winning with a punch even if Rhino ran into it.

Hernandez is cashing in feast or fired case for a world title shot now. Taz questions why he would do it now. Kurt is freaking out screaming this supposed to be a four way. A lot of people have said this made no sense but I disagree. Remember the rules are that you don't have to pin the champion so Hernandez could easily pin someone like AJ or Sting. Two Hernandez in storyline had bee screwed out of his chance at the four way when Eric Young cost him it on Impact. And three it's huge element of surprise he could game plan for all four men why they had no idea he was coming. Tenay mentions Hernandez hadn't like how his than partner Homicide had jumped Suicide and picked the bones when he cashed in his X-Division title shot while Hernandez wanted to earn his title. Angle punches Hernandez and that jumps starts the main event.

Sting climbs to the wrong and splashes on Morgan. Tenay ask why he would do that. AJ to the wrong spring board 450 to win the TNA world title. This was a great main event but outside of the tile change it almost feels like a TV main event instead of PPV. A lot of that had to do with the facts it's all about setting up for the Bound For Glory card. AJ vs Sting for the title, Morgan vs Angle even Hernandez vs Young (and Nash for the legends title) were al set up up of there.
Post match confute and fireworks go off. Christopher Daniels runs into the ring and hugs his long time friend. The fans comes into the ring to celebrate with AJ. Its a really cool visual and I think stiff like this set TNA apart form other wrestling companies. JB hops into the ring to interview for the TNA You Tube page. WE close with AJ holding the belt high again as Taz and Tenay congregate the new champion.
No Surrender is the big TNA event for September so it always suffers from being the set up to Bound for Glory. Look back at 2009 in TNA the smarter move would have been to have AJ win KOTM and the title. Kurt Angle didn't need another TNA title run and you could have done pretty much everything you wanted to do with Kurt without the belt. To keep Sting and AJ apart you could have Kurt find ways to cost to Sting a one on one shot at the belt until than. For a B PPV this is pretty strong there is nothing awful and only the ODB vs Deaner match fills like filler. Its worth picking up to get a look at the set up for Bound for Glory. Again though it nots not a must see outside of big AJ Styles fans who want see all of World Title wins.
