The summer of 2005 was a trying one for TNA. They had debuted on Fox Sports Net in 2004 and changed from weekly PPV's to monthly three hour events. But the FSN deal was short term with WWE moving back to USA a spot on Spike TV opened up but in the over lay TNA found itself without a TV deal. Instead Impact aired exclusively online. And these were some of the strong shows TNA did at Slaimmversary Raven won the NWA world and had a great run as champion. Samoa Joe began building his legacy in TNA and the company again showed nothing could truly stop them. TNA would debut on Spike in October and the call was made to go black the final few weeks. before the debut. This was mainly done because the Impact Zone needed a makeover for the Spike era and it also allowed them to pull off a shocking title change. Now that last PPV before the Spike debut could have been a throw away. After all Bound For Glory was next, save the great stuff for Spike. Instead Unbreakable was one TNA's best shows ever at the time. It featured the match I still call the very best in TNA history. NOw going into this show Raven is NWA champion feuding with Rhino who just debuted as heel. The Naturals are NWA tag champions and Christopher Daniels is setting the record (at the time) as longest reigning X-Division Champion. So now nearly a decade later does Unbreakable still stand up?
The pre show is included in this since it's the way I prefer it a live show in the arena with a match. Again I think that 'one of things I want TNA to do again. Jeremy Borash and Shane Douglas welcome us to the show. Shane hypes the monster vs manic match of Abyss vs Sabu. JB plus the return of Jeff Hardy. Shane tells us the NWA title match will be under Raven's rules. They toss to Traci Brooks (working as an interview) who is with Larry Zbyszko. Traci asks about the recent signing to TNA. Larry says he is getting calls from talent all over the world. Traci asks about Raven's Rules. Larry says Raven cried his way to the top and now he will cry his way to the bottom so he is granting the request. That is actually kind of interesting given what TNA did in the months a head where Larry was part of screwing Raven out of the title. More hype by JB and Shane. Mike Tenay and Don West take over before going to the ring.
Cassidy Riley vs Jerrelle Clark- Riley's gimmick was he was a follower of Raven and came out in a Raven t-shirt and did the Raven pose. Headlock by Riley. Riley blocks a side Russian leg sweep. Arm drag by Clark. Series of Arm Drags exchanged. Clothesline by Riley. Spring board back elbow by Riley. Monty Brown comes down to the ringside. Riley bails out. Lariat by Brown on Clark to end the match. Way to shot a match to grade.
Brown gets a microphone. Riley gets back in the ring. Brown gives him a chance to leave. Riley won't and does Raven's pose. Brown hits Riley and than give him the pounce. Brown says he won't sit on the back burner and demands his title shot. Brown officially challenges the winner of Rave vs Rhino at Bound for Glory. Jeff Jarrett makes his entrance in his gear. Tenay says Jarrett doesn't have a match tonight. West points out Brown beat Jarrett to the punch in calling for a title shot. Jarrett says Brown knew he was coming out. Jarrett says there are unemployed wresters hanging around to take jobs. Jarrett talks about everything he has done for Brown. Brown teases like he is going to fight Jarrett. Kip James who teams with Brown comes to try and calm things down. Jarrett pleads with Monty to listen to him. Jarrett says that on October 1st he will have position of the NWA title. Jarrett says he's the only one the deserves. Jeff Hardy makes his entrance. Brown and Kip leave. Hardy and Jarrett brawl. Hardy sends Jarrett to the floor and goes for a dive off the top but Jarrett moves. Hardy hits the steel guard rail. Hardy rammed into the board cast table. Jarrett hits Hardy with the office chair Don West uses. Jarrett goes for a stroke on a steal chair. Hardy counters and DDT's Jarrett into the chair. Kip James comes out and pulls Jarrett safety. Pretty good segment. I thought watching at the time "Ok Jarrett will try to steal the NWA belt." Instead it was hinting at the title change at a Can-Am wrestling show.
Video recapping Raven and Rhino's feud. We get a good promo by talking about how he likes pain and he will destroy Rhino. We also get Rhino saying he came for the World title and no one will stop him. Very well done vide. Back to JB and Shane hyping the show. Backstage Traci is with AJ Styles. Traci asks AJ about facing Daniels and Joe. AJ talks about this past with Daniels and his match the month before with Joe. AJ says when TNA started he redefined the sport and the face of the new age. AJ makes it clear he wants the belt back before the debut on Spike. Good promo.
Mikey Batts vs Shark Boy- Batts forces Shark Boy into the corner and slaps. him. Batts mocks Shark Boy and than runs away. Big slap by Shark Boy when he catches him. Nice looking dropkick by Shark Boy than the mounted punches with the shark bite. Batts drop toe holds Shark Boy into the corner. Batts chokes using the rope. Big clothesline by Batts. Spring board leg drip by Batts misses.Shark Boy with an anatomic drop and than the Shark Bite on the butt. Mikey to the outside and take a topa. Shark Boy goes to the top rope back in the ring. Batts shoves the referee into the ropes but Shark Boy sees it coming and drops down. Shark Boy fakes being crotched and Batts runs into a boot. Dead See Drop for the win by Shark Boy. Ok little match nothing to special.
One final big hype job by Don West and Borash. JB says things will be hot in TNA the next month and it starts tonight. More general hype main focus on the world title picture. Since this took place on September 11th and just after Hurricane Katrina we get a nice moment dedicated this show to the Unbreakable spirt of the American people class act TNA. Our opening video mocks football since the NFL season had started on the same day. The guy doing it does a nice job sounding like the NFL films voice.
The Diamonds in the Rough Simon Diamond, Elix Skipper, and David Young vs 3 Live Kru Konnan, The Truth, and BG James- I don't think there was a storyline here just a match put on the card to pad it. Prior to the match Konnan apologizes to BG for doubting him and than does his stupid "where my dogs at." Before giving the microphone to Kip of this usual intro. BG and Skipper start us off. Hard kicks and forearms by Skipper than a kick to the back. Jab series by BG and one of rYoung. Knee drop by BG. Legal tag to Young. Tag to truth. Double team the Kru. Hammer lock by the truth and tag back to BG. Diamond slaps Skipper to fire him up. Skipper in illegally and hits a leg lariat. Triple team by the Diamonds. Simon in with back elbow that gets two. Tag to Young he works over BG and than tags Diamond back in. Each guy goes for a shoulder tackle both men down. Tag to Young and tag to Konnan. Rolling lariat by Konnan. House of fires by Konnan o all the Diamonds. Rolling lariat again on Simon.Face jam for the win. Pointless match. why even have it on the card? I know they were the pushing for the next phase of the 3LK and there eventually breakup but who cares.
Don and Mike recap the segment with Brown, Jarrett, and Hardy for anyone that missed it. This just happened I understand it was for anyone that might have missed the pre-show but this happened less than a half hour ago did we really need to see the footage?
Austin Aries vs Roderick Strong- Aries had made his TNA debut when the fans voted for him to get a chance to wrestle Christopher Daniels. Mike says the fans had spoken wanting to see Aries and again they were giving Strong a shot as well. I actually like this idea since I'm always in favor of talent getting a shot. As much as I dislike Strong as a main eventer the guy is good in the ring and is fine for a spot like this. Don talks about them being stable mates in ROH and how awkward it must be. Now I'm ROH bots will go "TNA was trying to steal them." Get over it ROH is an indy and TNA was throwing it a bone plus why would you not want guys you like to get a chance to make money. Headlock by Aries into a take down for a front chances. Hammer lock by Strong into a wrist lock. Aries counters. Strong with a modified northern lights suplex. Head scissors by Strong but Head stand escape with a drop kick by Aries. Head lock by Aries. Strong block a monkey flip and sends Aries to the apron.Aries right back in with an elbow. Strong with a clothesline and goes for the Strong hold. Aries bock. catapult by Strong into the turnbuckle. Strong goes for the half nelson suplex but Aries escapes. Running drop kick by Aries. Brain buster and 450 for the win by Aries. Good match I can decently see why both guys did get signed. Some fans kept chaining ROH but the good news is by the end they were chatting for TNA the company giving these two this chance.
Shane Douglas is with Monty Brown. Kip asks what that (the stuff on the pre show) was all about Monty says Kip hasn't been getting the job done. Monty refuses saying he does things his way. Kip tells Monty to get his head in the game. Monty says both Lance Hoyt and Apollo will fill the Pounce. Ok promo thankfully Brown controlled himself for once and didn't go over board with his various lines.
Kip James and Monty Brown vs Apolo and Lance Hoyt- Mike says Monty is upset about Kip no being able to sway BG James to there side when BG was the referee of there match the month before. Kip and Monty had laid out Apolo's usual tag partner Sonny Siaki so Apolo was teaming with Hoyt for payback. Siaki comes out in street clothes and wearing a neck brace. Hoyt was coming off a match with Abyss while he lost they played up how he hung with the monster. Apolo and Hoyt tell Siaki to go to the back and not be at ringside. Kip and Hoyt start the match. Hammer lock into a head lock by James. Shoulder tackle by James. Hoyt returns the favor and gets a hip toss. Power slam by Hoyt gets one. Kick to the gut by Kip and a punch. Monty tags himself in. Brown tears at the face. Hoyt moves on a corner splash. Mounted punches by Hoyt. Back drop suplex by Brown than a second one. Hoyt escapes on the third. Brown than goes for a modified power bomb I think it was another strange move where I don't think he knew what to do. Tag to Kip James. Jabs by James. Kip runs into the elbow. Double clothesline both men are down. Tag to Brown and Tag to Apolo. House of fire by Apolo DDT on Brown Power slam on James. Spine buster by Apolo on Brown. Kip breaks up the pin and hits the famouers. Big Boot by Hoyt on James. Moonsault by Hoyt but Brown sends him to the floor. Brown send Hoyt into the post. Brown hold Apolo but he Apolo moves and Kip kicks Brown. Super Kick by Apolo gets two on James. Brown yes up and goes after Apolo. POUCNE for the win on Apolo. Ok match but I would of had preferred Kip and Monty Blow up. Monty leaves allowing Hoyt and Apolo to beat Kip.Post match we see Brown and James are still upset with each other.
Traci is with Team Canada. Williams tells EY and A-1 they have to be on the top of there games. Eric Young starts to freak out when he realizes it's 6 on 2 in the tag match. Roode tell him to get a grip eh also tells A-1 to start earning his keep. Roode talks about his match with Hardy. Williams cuts a promo on his long history with Chris Sabin. Williams says the Canadian Destroyer sets him apart and Sabin is just another infer American. Decent segment.

Sabin is blind and and nearly gives the moves to referee. Williams set for the Canadian Destroyer but Sabin counters into the cradle shock. and hits it for the win. Good match. These two guys knew each other so well I assume they could go "Spot 1 than Spot 14 and follow it up with spot 87."
Post mach Matt Bentley who had been out of TNA for a while returns and lays Sabin out with a superkick. Bentley says people thought I was bound for up north but instead he's Bound For Glory. Bentley calls for a an Ultimate X at Bound for Glory. Bentley than lays out Williams with a super kick. Good segment to set up for Ultimate X witch would be these three men.
No DQ Match Abyss with James Mitchell vs Sabu- Sabu had returned afar a serious of medical problems and he tried to stop Abyss from destroying Raven. Pre match Mitchell says not even Sabu can survive the 350 LBS weapon of Mass Destruction and makes the match NO DQ. Mitchell warns Sabu he is signing he own death warrant. These guys are nuts. Abyss covers and picks up the win. Well I'm glade that was the finish. Damn good hardcore match. Its clear they had to hold back a little because of the NWA title but still it's pretty cool to see the man that made ECW hardcore vs The TNA King of Hardcore.
Shane Douglas is with Alex Shelley. Douglas asks where Shelley's Candio Cup winning tag partner Sean Waltman is. Shelley says no one would love to give answer more than himself. Shelley says everyone always tells him Waltman comes though in the end well he better tonight. Shelley says he will go down with or without Waltman. Decent promo by Shelley I don't think he was quite clear his gimmicking TNA was. Don and Mike says they can't believe Waltman would leave Shelley hanging. Mike talks about how the Candido cup was about the older wrestlers mentoring the younger talent as Candido went out of his way to do. Don says Shelley could get lucky since the other three teams hate each other so much. Good covering by Don and Mike. Sadly Waltman went Sean Waltman and just didn't show up. It's to bad as he was having a really good run in TNA at this point and I don't think he ever got the same kind of momentum anywhere again.
Bobby Roode vs Jeff Hardy- I don't really remember the storyline if there was one. It could have been TNA was just trying to get Roode and Hardy on the card. Don talks about how much potential Roode has. Mike tells us this is Jeff Hardy's first match in four months well sadly because Jeff Hardy was Jeff Hardy and was a long way from beating his demons. Roode jumps Hardy at the start. Big punches and kicks by Roode. Flying clothesline by Hardy. Drop kick by Hardy sends Roode to the floor. Hardy nails the baseball slide and the slingshot cross body. This is one of those matches where you could tell Hardy was not at this best. He was clearly off make of that what you will. Roode defiantly showed why even back than people thought he could be world champion someday.
Backstage The Naturals and Jimmy Hart. Douglas calls this the toughest team of the Naturals title reign. Hart agrees. AMW interrupts and asks how the Naturals plan to stop them. Stevens says tonight they end this obsession AMW has. Harris talks about AMW's history with the Naturals and says there is nothing can stop AMW from getting the gold back. Storm says they only have about 15 mins left as champions. Good segment as AMW was deftly hinting at there big heel turn.
Elimination Rules for the NWA World Tag Team Championship The Naturals Chase Stevens and Andy Douglas with Jimmy Hart vs America's Most Wanted Chris Harris and James Storm vs Team Canada Eric Young and A-1 vs Alex Shelley - AMW and the Naturals had briefly put there long feud aside to try and take out Team Canada. Rhino says Raven's rules is what he's wanted. Raven will cry tears of blood. Rhino says he has one word… PAIN!
Raven's Rules NWA World Heavyweight Championship Raven © vs Rhino- Rhino had debuted at No Surrender and in a pretty well done angle they had Jarrett hunt him out all night only for it to be revealed Rhino was working with Jarrett and he attacked Raven. Raven sat in the corner and Rhino puts a trash can into front of his face and than stomps it. Face wash by Rhino. Raven block one drop toe hold back to the ankle lock. I really like the idea of Raven using a submission hold since it's something no one would except but also it takes away Rhino's ability to hit the gore and other trademark moves if you damage his leg. Rhino gets the trashcan and hits Rave got get free. Rhino grabs a staple gun. Staple to Raven's head and another one. Powerful chair shot by Rhino. Rhino climbs the ropes and goes for a splash. How when I watched in 2005 I didn't care who won I just wanted it to keep going. We close AJ celebrates with his newly won title. Don and Mike note Joe is still undefeated since he wasn't pinned. Daniels can't believe it and is in agony having lost his championship. Joe is seething with anger on the floor.
I am actually stunned TNA hasn't ever used the Unbreakable name again. All and all this is a great show. The main event is a classic and a must see for any wrestling fan. Hell I would even Redmond young wrestlers watch this match to learn how to work a three way correctly. I will never get tired of watching it. On top of that we get two very good hardcore matches and a excellent effort by Aries and Strong. There are a few weak spots but they are worth sitting though in order to get to the good stuff. Also for TNA fans it's interesting to watch this show as it was the end of an era the FSN days were over it was time to go to Spike. The Summer of Raven would end and AMW was set to turn heel. Sting and Christian Cage both loomed on the horizon. A Must Buy Show just based on the main event alone.
