ROH TV Report: Briscoe vs Hardy For the ROH World Title
We are one week away from Steel Cage Warfare where the future of SCUM is on the line. Before we get to that match, we will see if SCUM can capture the Ring of Honor World Title when Matt Hardy gets his shot at Jay Briscoe.
This week, we start off in the SCUM Limo and Steve Corino says that next week is Steel Cage Warfare but tonight is about Matt Hardy. Steve says that Baltimore is known for losers. He talks about the smell of the Inner Harbor and then he mentions losers like Ray Lewis and Cal Ripken. Steve asks Matt about Cal’s wife.
Steve says that Matt defeats Jay Briscoe tonight for the ROH title. It will feel like his son winning the title. Steve says that SCUM thanks Matt for everything he has done for him and they will show it when they put the title around his waist tonight.
Matt says that he has been resurrected and he wants to give back. He is here to give back to his family. They are closer to him than his real brother.
We are in Baltimore, Maryland and your announcers are Kevin ‘Quoth the Kelly . . . Soaring and Scoring’ Kelly and Steve ‘Is he over the 1983 World Series’ Corino.
Our opening match is Will Ferrera versus Adam Cole. Before the match can start, Roderick Strong comes out and he is dressed to wrestle. Strong enters the ring and he takes the mic.
Roderick tells Adam that he wanted to come out here to get this off his chest. At Best in the World, Cole made a decision that wasn’t as honorable as Adam says that he is. Adam shakes everyone’s hand in the locker room and he says that he is their friend. At Best in the World, he had the opportunity to do the right thing.
The more he watched, he did not get mad at Adam. He was disappointed at Adam.
Adam says that he has prided on fighting with honor. At Best in the World, he had an opportunity and his obsession over wins and losses caused him to make the decision he did because he had the chance to beat one of the best, he had to take it. Adam says that if he disrespected anyone, he apologizes.
Adam tells Will that he deserves a shot in the ring, but their match cannot happen. Adam says that the people would love to see a Best in the World Rematch. Adam asks everyone if they want to see him face Roderick Strong. He will prove to Roderick that he has honor.
Match Number One: Roderick Strong versus Adam Cole
We have a handshake before the match so there will be honor.
They lock up and Strong with a side head lock and take down but Cole with a head scissors and Strong escapes. They jockey for position and Strong with a hammer lock on the injured elbow. Cole gets to his feet but Strong takes him down again and then Cole returns to his feet and we have a stand off. They have a Greco Roman knuckle lock and Strong backs Cole into the corner and Strong with a clean break. They lock up and Cole backs Strong into the corner and he gives a clean break as well.
Strong with a knee and forearm. Strong sends Cole into the turnbuckles and Strong with a chop and forearms. Strong with a snap mare and he gets a near fall. Strong tries for a slam but Cole escapes and he hits a belly-to-back suplex for a near fall. Cole with a forearm and a snap mare followed by a forearm and he gets a near fall.
Cole tries for a suplex but Strong blocks it. Strong with a gourdbuster and both men are down. Cole misses a charge into the corner and Strong with chops and a forearm. Strong with a back heel kick but Cole with a Death Valley neck breaker for a near fall.
Cole with a neck breaker and he gets a near fall. Cole with a reverse chin lock and we go to commercial.
We are back and Cole with a suplex for a near fall. Cole appears to be favoring his injured elbow. Cole with a slam and he gets another near fall. Cole with a figure four head scissors and Strong bridges and gets a near fall. Strong with a punch and forearms. Cole tries for a belly-to-back suplex but Strong lands on his feet. Strong with a drop kick but he cannot capitalize.
Strong with a knee to the midsection followed by a flying clothesine and then he gets Cole on his back and he hits a side slam followed by chops. Strong with a running knee into the corner followed by a bulldog and he gets a near fall. Cole runs Strong into the corner.
Strong puts Cole in the Tree of Woe and then he hits a running knee to Cole followed by a back breaker and he gets a near fall. Cole with a kick to the knee but he runs into a boot and Strong with an enzuigiri followed by a uranage back breaker and an Olympic Slam for a near fall.
Strong gets Cole on his shoulders but Cole gets to the apron and he drops Strong on the top rope and then Cole hits a Wheelbarrow suplex onto the apron and he rolls Strong back into the ring and he gets a near fall. Strong goes for a figure four and he knows how to apply it. Strong has his shoulders down and Cole gets a near fall.
Strong tries to get to the ropes and he succeeds. Cole releases the hold. Strong rolls to the apron and Cole tries to suplex him back into the ring but Strong blocks it and he tries to suplex Cole to the floor but he puts Cole on the turnbuckles. Strong with an enzuigiri and then Strong goes for a superplex but Cole with forearms. Strong fires back with forearms of his own.
Strong hits the superplex and both men are down. Strong gets a near fall. Strong tries for a suplex but Cole with a knee. Strong with a forearm and then he hits Death by Roderick. Cole responds with a drop kick to the knees and then he goes for the Figure Four again. Strong counters with an inside cradle. Strong with a double leg take down and he goes for the Strong Hold but Cole powers out and Strong collides with the referee.
Strong and Cole with forearms in the center of the ring and Cole gains the advantage until Strong connects with a jumping knee to the head and Strong with the forearms. Strong with an elbow but Cole with a super kick and both men are down. The referee continues to nap in the corner while Steve Corino gets up from his position at the announce table.
Corino throws a chain into the center of the ring. Strong grabs the chain. Corino distracts Strong long enough to allow Cole to get to his feet and he kicks Strong and takes the chain. Cole hits Strong in the head with the chain. The referee sees the chain and the referee calls for the bell.
Winner: Roderick Strong (by disqualification)
After the match, Cole storms to the back and Corino follows after him.
We are back and the members of Team ROH talk about next week’s Steel Cage Warfare. BJ Whitmer, Michael Elgin, and Jay Lethal are wary of Kevin Steen being a part of the team because he was part of SCUM.
We see the members of SCUM arrive at the building. Matt offers $20 for a fan’s negative sign about him. Hardy raises the offer to everything he has on him. SCUM rips up the sign and we go to commercial.
Match Number Two: Matt Hardy (with Steve Corino) versus Jay Briscoe for the Ring of Honor World Heavyweight Title
Briscoe’s shoulder is severely wrapped up and Matt and Steve hug it out before the match.
They lock up and Jay with a wrist lock but Matt with a reversal and he starts to work on the injured arm and shoulder. They lock up again and Hardy with a wrist lock but Jay with a punch and head butt. Jay kicks Hardy in the corner and chokes him with his boot. Jay with a European uppercut followed by a back elbow and he gets a near fall.
Jay with a kick and shoulders in the corner. Jay tries for another shoulder but Hardy moves and Jay hits the ring post with his bad shoulder. Matt sends Jay twice into the ring post. Hardy with divorce court for a near fall. Hardy with a hammer lock as the focus stays on the shoulder.
Jay with elbows and punches followed by a forearm. Hardy with a Side Effect and he gets a near fall. Jay with a head butt or two and he gets Hardy on his shoulders but Hardy gets to his feet and he hits a Twist of Fate for a near fall. Hardy with elbows to the shoulder and then he wraps the arm in the ropes.
Hardy punches Jay in the corner and then he returns to the shoulder. Hardy with a hammer lock and we go to commercial.
We are back and Briscoe with jabs using the left arm and he shows the pain on each punch. Jay with a drop kick and both men are down. Matt is up first and Jay runs into a boot and Hardy with a screaming elbow to the back of the head but Jay with a super kick and he gets a near fall. Jay with a neck breaker and he gets a near fall.
Jay sets for a Jay Driller but Hardy is able to work on the shoulder to stop him. Corino trips Jay and Matt with a Twist of Fate and he gets a near fall. Hardy sends Briscoe to the floor and the referee warns Matt.
Matt Irish whips Jay into the guardrails a few times and then he rolls Jay back into the ring. Matt gets a near fall. Matt tells Steve that he will choke him out. Hardy sets for a butterfly suplex but Jay with a back body drop to escape. Jay with a kick and he hits a Jay Driller but Matt kicks out at two.
Jay with kicks to Hardy in the corner as he works on the ankle. Hardy takes off his boot and Briscoe returns to the ankle. Hardy hits Jay with the boot when the referee was not looking but Jay kicks out at two. Hardy limps as he sets for the Twist of Fate. Hardy with another Twist of Fate but Hardy does not go for the pin. Hardy hits his fourth Twist of Fate in the match but Briscoe kicks out at two.
Hardy goes for a guillotine choke with the arms butterflied but Hardy releases the hold and he punches Jay. Matt pulls Jay towards the corner and Matt goes up to the turnbuckles for a moonsault, but he takes too long and Jay recovers.
Jay with forearms and punches. Jay with forearms to the back and he hits a belly-to-back superplex and Matt lays on Briscoe and gets a near fall. Hardy and Briscoe exchange punches and Jay with jabs and forearms followed by a head butt and he tries for the Jay Driller but he cannot get Hardy up. Hardy tries for another Twist of Fate but Briscoe counters with an inside cradle and gets the three count.
Winner: Jay Briscoe
After the match, Rhino comes to the ring and he GORES Briscoe. Mark Brsicoe attacks Rhino and he hits a drop kick that sends Rhino into the turnbuckles. Corino hits Mark from behind.
BJ Whitmer, Michael Elgin, and Jay Lethal are wrapped to the ring posts while the members of SCUM attack Jay. Rhino chokes Jay in the ring. Corino puts the belt around Hardy’s waist while SCUM brings chairs into the ring. Rhino hits Jay with a chair and then he hits Mark with the chair. Rhino hits Mark a third time with the chair. Jacobs punches Jay while security makes their way to the ring but they keep security at bay.
Steve tells SCUM to finish off Jay Briscoe. He tells everyone to watch as Matt with a double stomp off the ropes onto Jay’s injured arm with a chair on the arm. Steve says that not only will ROH die next week, it will burn.
We go to credits.
