The attack by Curtis Axel on Daniel Bryan at the WWE Money in the Bank show wasn't for nothing originally. The initial plan was for Axel and Bryan to have a match on the July 15 Raw. This would have pushed everything else we've seen back a week.
John Cena would have made the choice for hisSummerslamopponent the following week on the 7/22 Raw with the contract signing and gauntlet match on July 29. The Ryback/Cena Tables Match would've taken place a week later.
It's unknown why WWE scrapped those plans, but the attack by Axel wasn't meant to be completely random.
