Pro Wrestling Sheet reports that Vince McMahon is “pulling out all the stops” for WWE’s new Facebook Watch show, Mixed Match Challenge, which was announced today and will start airing next month. McMahon wants to impress Facebook’s top executives and get the attention of other streaming services so that WWE can have more doors open to them in 2019 when their TV contract with NBC Universal expires.
The show is not expected to tie in to RAW and Smackdown storylines much, though minor things like an “injury” or tough match having lasting ramifications may be worked in.
They add that the decision to move the 205 Live taping to before Smackdown Live is being considered but a final decision hasn’t been made. PWInsider reported earlier that the air time for 205 Live will be moved to 10:30PM ET starting January 16th so that Mixed Match Challenge can air at 10PM ET.
Also expected for the show is to see Nia Jax and Enzo Amore team up, and it’s also possible that other real-life couples such as Jimmy Uso & Naomi and Lana & Rusev will team up on the show.
As reported earlier, Facebook will be paying WWE for the distribution rights to the show, which will have a 12 week run. WWE wants to see how the revenue pans out for this show.
