WWN Supershow 04/02/16 Mercury Rising 2016 Results


Zack Sabre, Jr. comes out to start the show.  He wants to resolve this Europe vs. America challenge.  Sabre doesn’t want to wait any longer…
Opening Match:  Zack Sabre, Jr. vs. Chris HeroHero insists on being introduced as “the greatest of all time.”  Hero stalls early on and generally tries to annoy Sabre.  Sabre connects with a series of uppercuts but Hero simply responds with a right hand.  Sabre begins to target the left arm.  Hero rocks him with a forearm.  Sabre changes his focus to the left leg.  Hero attempts a senton but finds himself in a cross armbreaker.  Hero quickly reaches the ropes and connects with a roaring elbow.  He offers Sabre a free shot.  Hero takes the shot and hits a senton.  He spends too much time gloating and Sabre goes back after the left arm.  Hero becomes enraged and connects with more strikes.  Sabre fires back with a charging uppercut.  He follows with two more.  Sabre tries a german suplex to no avail and hits a tornado DDT instead.  He connects with a soccer kick for a two count.  Sabre traps Hero’s arm in the guardrail and kicks away at it.  Hero creates some space with a dropkick through the ropes.  Sabre tries a quick pin attempt for a nearfall.  Hero connects with a mafia kick and hits a cravate driver out of the corner.  Sabre applies a kimura but Hero hits hangman’s suplex to escape.  Sabre counters a roaring elbow into a cross armbreaker.  Hero rolls into the ropes to break the hold.  Hero connects with a vicious knee to the face.  Sabre counters an elbow into a backslide for a nearfall.  Hero quickly hits a piledriver for a two count.  They exchange forearms.  Sabre is off-kilter.  Hero hits a saito suplex and connects with a roaring elbow.  Sabre counters a gotch piledriver into a kimura.  He transitions into quick pin attempts to no avail.  Hero catches him with a bicycle kick and connects with the Cyclone Kill.  Hero adds three Deathblows for the win at 27:00.

Match #2:  Fred Yehi vs. Drew GulakThey trade control on the mat and Yehi holds his own as they wrestle to a stalemate.  Yehi tries for a stump puller but Gulak escapes.  Gulak hits a shoulder-capture suplex but Yehi responds with a double underhook suplex.  Yehi wins a strike exchange and connects with a sliding kick.  He applies a dragon sleeper and transitions into a reverse suplex.  Gulak now finds himself in a koji clutch.  He escapes the hold and connects with a series of stomps.  Yehi fights him off with a back suplex.  The crowd has been silent.  Yehi’s knee buckles and Gulak applies a dragon sleeper for the victory at 9:00

After the match, Gulak offers Yehi a spot in Catch Point.  He accepts.  Gulak talks about the growth of Catch Point.

Match #3:  Tracy Williams vs. Matt RiddleWilliams targets the right leg from the opening bell.  Riddle creates some space with a few knee strikes.  Williams sends him to the floor and follows out with a top-rope dive.  Riddle connects with a springboard knee strike.  He teases a dive but instead just slaps Williams.  Riddle hits a german suplex.  Williams comes off the middle rope with a forearm smash.  He dropkicks the right leg and follows with a missile dropkick.  Williams synchs in an octopus hold but Riddle is able to reach the bottom rope.  Williams hits a backbreaker-back suplex combination for a nearfall.  Riddle catches him with a surprise knee strike and hits a 2k1 bomb for a two count.  Williams connects with a lariat.  Riddle hits an alabama slam and transitions into the Bromission.  Williams kicks his way out of the hold.  He traps Riddle in the ropes and connects with dropkicks.  Riddle catches him with a cross armbreaker in the ropes.  Williams hits a DDT off the top rope for a nearfall.  Williams applies a crossface for the win at 13:00.

Match #4:  Anything Goes: Ethan Page vs. Anthony NesePage hits a back drop.  Nese superkicks a chair into Page’s face.  Page takes the chair and throws it at Nese.  Page uses the guardrail to hit a double underhook backbreaker.  Nese blocks a slingshot maneuver with a knee strike and hits a rope-assisted DDT onto a chair.  Nese follows with a lionsault.  He takes over with a facewash knee strike.  Nese brings a ladder into the ring and starts hitting Page with it.  Page comes back by catapulting Nese into the propped ladder.  Page hits a fallaway slam into a propped chair.  He drops Nese face-first onto a chair for a nearfall.  Page hits a slingshot ace crusher onto a chair for a two count.  Nese responds with a death valley driver through two chairs.  They duel with chairs.  Page hits a gourdbuster and lands a huge chair shot for a nearfall.  A ladder is setup across two chairs.  Nese connects with a superkick.  Page hits a powerbomb onto the ladder and follows with a package piledriver for the victory at 13:00

Lenny Leonard invites Terry Funk to the ring.  Funk thanks the crowd.  Sabu comes out with a plaque to present to Funk.  Mick Foley interrupts and the crowd goes crazy.  Foley talks about how he chose Funk to induct him into the Hall of Fame.  Foley chose to skip that ceremony tonight to be here with Funk.  Funk celebrates with his friends.  Larry Dallas and Earl Cooter interrupt.  Cooter is upset that he wasn’t booked tonight.  Funk eventually comes to blows with Cooter and Dallas.  Sabu is throwing chairs.  Foley pulls out Mr. Socko and unleashes his wrath.  Foley, Funk, and Sabu celebrate.
Intermission.  Oh man.
Taylor Made comes out with So Cal Val.  Val says there isn’t going to be a SHINE Title match tonight.  Luscious Latasha comes out to challenge but is quickly taken out.  Nicole Matthews is revealed as the challenger…

Match #5:  SHINE Title: Taylor Made © vs. Nicole MatthewsThey start brawling before the opening bell.  Matthews connects with elbows and a kick to the back.  They battle around ringside.  Matthews lands a dive.  In the ring, Made connects with a series of forearms and takes control.  Matthews fights back with a short-arm lariat and a northern lights suplex.  Made hits a neckbreaker out of the corner for a two count.  Matthews responds with a german suplex and locks in a liontamer.  Andrea just enters the ring and distracts Matthews.  Andrea connects with a boot as Val distracts the referee.  Made hits an ace crusher to retain her title at 8:00

Match #6:  FIP World Heavyweight Title: Caleb Konley © vs. Maxwell Chicago vs. Gary Jay vs. Jason CadeOver two hours into the show and somehow Chicago’s comedy is lost on me.  It’s not lost on the crowd, however.  Cade takes out Konley and Chicago with a double missile dropkick.  He follows with a hurricanrana.  Jay wins a strike exchange against Chicago.  Konley low-bridges Jay to the floor.  Chicago is too afraid to dive.  The crowd is rabid for Chicago!  I’m crazy.  I think I’m just crazy and don’t get it.  Chicago hits a backbreaker-flatliner combination on Cade.  Everyone trades control.  Konley begins to divide the ring with a series of strikes.  They do a four-way spot and all four men are down.  Cade connects with a basement superkick on Chicago.  He lands a dive to the floor onto Konley.  Cade follows with a 450 to the floor onto Jay.  Konley powerbombs Jay over the top rope onto Cade and Chicago.  In the ring, Jay german suplexes Konley into the turnbuckles.  Jay and Cade exchange strikes.  Chicago hits a tiger driver on Cade for a nearfall.  Cade responds with a sunset bomb.  Andrea pushes Cade off the top rope. This allows Konley to hit a middle-rope michinoku driver on Jay to retain his title at 13:00.

Match #7:  EVOLVE Title: Timothy Thatcher © vs. Sami CallihanThatcher’s right arm is injured.  Callihan charges at the opening bell but eats a forearm.  Callihan successfully grounds the champion and reigns down palm strikes.  Thatcher tries a fujiwara armbar but Callihan gets to the ropes.  Callihan lands a dive to the floor and starts targeting the injured arm back in the ring.  He takes over until Thatcher delivers repeated knee strikes to the midsection.  Callihan avoids a charge and connects with a gamengiri.  He follows with facewash kicks.  They connect with kicks at the same time and fall to the canvas.  This happens two more times.  Patience is being lost.  Thatcher hits a saito suplex but falls victim to a powerbomb.  Callihan connects with a basement bicycle kick and locks in an armbar.  Thatcher makes it to the ropes.  Callihan hits a tombstone for a nearfall.  Somehow we have dueling chants.  Thatcher just connects with a headbutt to retain his title at 17:00

Catch Point confront Thatcher after the match.  Gulak wants the EVOLVE Title.  Thatcher says he will defend his title against each member of Catch Point.  Thatcher leaves the title in the ring and walks away.

Match #8:  Kota Ibushi, Johnny Gargano, and TJ Perkins vs. Will Ospreay, Tommy End, and Marty ScurllGargano and Scurll begin with some chain wrestling.  They avoid each other’s strikes but Scurll sneaks in an eye poke.  Gargano responds with a gamengiri.  Perkins headscissors End.  Ospreay and Ibushi both get tagged in.  Ibushi wins an exchange with a dropkick.  Gargano intervenes and catches Ospreay with a dropkick of his own.  Gargano finds himself in the wrong corner and is isolated.  He fights off all three of his opponents and makes the tag.  Ibushi lights everyone up with kicks.  All six men exchange forearms.  Ospreay’s team connects with stereo basement superkicks but Ibushi’s team answers with stereo superkicks and stereo dives.  Perkins connects with an up kick on Ospreay.  Ospreay fights back with a handspring double pele kick.  Scurll superkicks Perkins from the apron.  End double stomps Gargano into a shooting star press from Ospreay.  Perkins reenters the ring with a double missile dropkick.  He eats a few superkicks for his trouble.  Ospreay plants Perkins with a springboard ace crusher for a nearfall.  Ibushi connects with a double pele kick.  Gargano hits a double slingshot spear and lands a dive to the floor.  Ibushi moonsaults onto Ospreay and Perkins adds a 450 for a nearfall.  Everyone trades strikes and all six men are down.  Gargano lands a rolling senton to the floor from the apron.  End follows out with a moonsault.  They brawl into the crowd.  Ospreay gets back dropped into the third row.  Ibushi and Ospreay battle on the rafters.  They land stereo moonsaults to the floor.  In the ring, Ibushi and Ospreay trade strikes.  Ibushi hits a snap german suplex for a nearfall.  Ibushi hits an elevated powerbomb on Ospreay for the win at 23:00.
