Backlash in Lucha Underground Over MVP Firing

The termination of MVP’s contract with Lucha Underground has not gone over well within the company. As you may recall, MVP was released from his contract last week for violating the terms of the deal, less than a week after he had announced that he’d signed on board. MVP has posted a video in which he apologized and took responsibility, revealing that his interviews with Lucha Underground workers on his podcast had not been approved and were the grounds of his dismissal.

According to the Wrestling Observer, officials were upset with the podcast because there was discussion of what was going on in the company and it was believed that spoilers were given out. The parent company’s lawyers were upset about the situation and weren’t satisfied after he took the podcast down, arguing that he violated non-disclosure terms of his contract. Catrina was on the podcast and it was revealed her character is 138 years old, which hadn’t been revealed on the show yet.

Within the company, there was a feeling of shock over the firing along with the belief that it was a very petty way to let him go, with the possibility it was a cover for something else. MVP’s podcast co-host Alex Greenfield has said the termination was a “personal betrayal” on someone’s part.
