ROH TV Report Eddie Edwards vs Jay Lethal

Last week on television, we saw the Champions versus All Stars match from Glory By Honor and at the end of the match, Michael Elgin had earned a World Title Match against Adam Cole by pinning him in the match. After the match, Jay Briscoe came to the ring and complained about not being in the match and then he attacked Elgin and Cole with his own title belt.
We are in Dearborn, Michigan and your announcers are Kevin Kelly and Steve Corino.

We see footage of Tommaso Ciampa earning a Television Title Match at Final Battle.

Truth gets on the mic before the match and he says that Zack is the only one legged wrestler, but Kevin points out on commentary that is not true if you are Johnny Ace. Truth says that we can see that Zack is handicapped. Some might call him handicapabale but him and Matt disagree. Zack might think that he has a chance at the Television Title. He says that the people who believe that he can win are more stupid than Zack is. This is just a warm up for Final Battle. Truth says that the only thing that Zack has better than Matt Taven is a parking spot.

Match Number One: Matt Taven (with Truth Martini and Scarlett Bordeaux) versus Zack Gowen for the Ring of Honor Television Title

They lock up and Taven sends Gowen to the mat. Matt hops around the ring to mock Gowen. They lock up again and Taven sends Gowen to the mat. Gowen forces Taven to the floor and he discusses strategy with Martini and Scarlett as we go to commercial.

We are back and Gowen with a series of drop kicks. Taven pushes the referee into Gowen and Taven hits Gowen from behind. Taven chokes Gowen and Taven looks for the other leg and then he drops an elbow to the leg. Gowen with elbows to escape. Taven with an uppercut in the corner but Gowen with an elbow and a kick. Gowen is sent to the apron and he punches Taven. Truth tries to attack Gowen but Gowen moves.

Taven with a springboard enzuigiri and Gowen falls to the floor. Taven goes to the apron and he connects with an elbow off the apron. Taven rolls Gowen back into the ring and he gets a near fall. Taven asks Gowen if he knows who he is in the ring with and the crowd chants ‘Pauly Shore’. Taven with a delayed vertical suplex and he kips up. Taven with a clothesline.

Taven tells Gowen to get up for another clothesline but Gowen with a rollup for a near fall. Taven with a drop kick and he goes to the turnbuckles but he is met with a boot from Gowen. Taven misses a charge into the corner and then he goes over the top rope when he goes after Gowen. Gowen with a pescado onto Taven.

Gowen rolls Taven back in and Gowen goes up top but Taven stops him. Taven with head butts on the turnbuckles but Gowen knocks him off. Gowen goes for a moonsault but Truth knocks Gowen off when Scarlett distracts the referee.

Taven tries for Climax but Gowen with a rollup for a near fall. Gowen with a small package for a near fall. Gowen lands on his foot on a belly-to-back suplex attempt and he hits a flatline for a near fall. Gowen with a Koji Clutch but Taven gets to the ropes. Taven with a drop toe hold but he misses a splash into the ropes. Gowen goes to the turnbuckles for a moonsault but Truth distracts the referee.

Gowen with a drop kick to Truth. Scarlett gets on the apron and distracts Gowen to allow Taven to hit Climax for the three count.

Winner: Matt Taven

After the match, Truth holds Gowen and Taven grabs Gowen’s crutch. Before Taven can do anything, Tommaso Ciampa comes to the ring to make the save.

Veda Scott says that we will not see RD Evans this week. Eddie Kingston interrupts and he tells Nigel that him and Homicide have been asking for a tag title match. They will get that match soon and they will help Ring of Honor rise.

We go to commercial.

We are back with a look at the end of the Champions versus All Stars match when Michael Elgin pinned Adam Cole. Then we see what Jay Briscoe did after the match. Adam Cole could not defend his title against Kevin Steen in Cincinnati, so Steen had to face Jay Briscoe and the winner will get to be a part of the Final Battle Main Event. Jay Briscoe is now a part of the Triple Threat Match against Adam Cole and Michael Elgin.

Jay Briscoe says that he will put the Real World Title on the line against Adam Cole and Michael Elgin.

We see comments from Adam Cole in Cincinnati when he proclaimed that he would beat two men at Final Battle to prove that he is the Real Ring of Honor World Champion.

Michael Elgin says that he will do whatever it takes to leave New York as the World Champion.

Michael Bennett talks about his match at Final Battle against Kevin Steen. They will meet in a stretcher match. Bennett mentions that he has beaten Steen before, but Kevin has to get in the last statement. The loser will not be able to use the piledriver. Bennett says that this will be Steen’s final match and it is fitting that there will be a stretcher because that is what Steen will need to get out of New York City.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Jay Briscoe comes to he ring and he says that it is an honor and privilege to be in front of everyone as the reigning and defending Ring of Honor World Champ. In case you haven’t heard, the main event at Final Battle is now a three way. Jay puts the title on the line against Michael Elgin and Adam Cole. That is well and good for the people of New York, but tonight he is in Dearborn. We need a World Title Match because Adam Cole’s belt doesn’t mean s***. Jay has an open challenge for anyone with balls to challenge him can come to the ring.

Silas Young comes out and he asks if he heard Jay. Silas says that he is the only man in the back. Silas wants to know what kind of man comes to the ring with their own title belt and claim to be champion. Jay is just like his brother Mark, he is nothing but a joke.

Jay tells Silas to come in the ring.

Match Number Two: Silas Young versus Jay Briscoe for the Jay Briscoe World Title

Briscoe with a kick and head butt followed by a back elbow. Briscoe with kicks to Young and he chokes him. Jay with jabs to Young but Young with an Irish whip and he runs into a back elbow. Briscoe with a forearm and Young goes to the floor. Young with a double sledge to the back when Briscoe returns to the ring. Briscoe with head butts and a neck breaker for a near fall.

Jay with jabs to Young and he sets for the Jay Driller but Silas gets Jay on his shoulders. Jay escapes and he hits a running boot to Young and Silas goes to the floor. Silas throws Kevin’s chair into the ring and Mark takes a weapon from Silas and Jay kicks the rope and it affects Silas ‘in the ding ding’ and then Jay hits the Jay Driller for the three count.

Winner: Jay Briscoe

We go to commercial.

We are back with footage from BJ Whitmer’s retirement speech at Death Before Dishonor and his comments about Jimmy Jacobs.

Jimmy says that people who do not feel accepted realize how much BJ’s comments meant to him.

Nigel talks about the Jimmy Jacobs redemption tour and how he would be reinstated if he won three of the five matches and he would get a title match.

Adam points out that Jacobs will be wrestling in his home town. Jacobs says that he almost beat Cole the last time in Dearborn. Cole tells Jimmy that his title is going nowhere. He does not care that it is Jimmy’s home town or his shot at redemption.

Jimmy asks someone off camera if he will be there and have his back and we see that it is BJ Whitmer and he says that he will be there.

Match Number Three: Eddie Edwards (with Davey Richards) versus Jay Lethal

They lock up and Edwards with a side head lock and shoulder tackle. Lethal tries for a springboard move but Edwards moves and Lethal lands on his feet. Edwards sends Lethal into the ropes and Lethal falls over Edwards but Lethal with a rollup for a near fall. Edwards with a side head lock take down and Lethal with a head scissors. Lethal with a side head lock take down and Edwards with a head scissors.

They have a Greco Roman Knuckle Lock and they both try for the advantage. Lethal gets the advantage but Edwards with a bridge and then Lethal gets a near fall. Jay gets another near fall and Edwards with a bridge. Lethal uses his body weight to get Edwards’ shoulders back on the mat. Edwards tries for a monkey flip but Lethal lands on his feet.

Lethal with a hip toss followed by a cartwheel into a drop kick on Edwards and Lethal gets a near fall. Lethal with a punch in the corner followed by a drop toe hold. Lethal slides to the floor and he hits a drop kick on Edwards in the ropes. Lethal gets a near fall. Lethal with a reverse chin lock on Edwards. Lethal with a chop but Edwards with an Irish whip. Lethal with a boot and then he hits a leg lariat from the turnbuckles and Lethal with a near fall.

Lethal with a reverse chin lock. Edwards with elbows but Lethal with a European uppercut. Edwards with a boot to Lethal and then Edwards puts Lethal in the Tree of Woe and Edwards with a hesitation drop kick. Edwards with a baseball slide from the floor. Edwards gets a near fall.

We go to commercial.

We are back and Edwards sends Lethal into the turnbuckles. Edwards with a chop while Corino campaigns against chops in Ring of Honor. Edwards with a head butt and he tries for a belly-to-back suplex but Lethal lands on his feet. Edwards with a chop but he is sent over the top rope to the floor. Lethal hits a suicide dive and then he hits a second suicide dive. Lethal goes for a third but Edwards recovers and hits a rana.

Edwards with a suicide dive and then he hits a second one on Lethal. Eddie decides to go for the hat trick but Lethal recovers and gets in the ring and hits a super kick. Lethal with a springboard drop kick that knocks Eddie off the apron. Lethal with a suicide dive and both men are down on the floor.

The referee makes his count and both men get in at nineteen. They get face to face and nose to nose. Lethal and Edwards exchange forearms and then it turns into an Edwards chop fest. Lethal with a back heel kick. Edwards with a back elbow but Lethal hits the Lethal Combination and he goes up top for the elbow drop and he connects but Edwards kicks out. Lethal sets for the Lethal Injection but Edwards stop him. Lethal with a chop and elbow. Edwards catches Lethal on the Lethal Injection attempt and he hits a belly-to-back Falcon Arrow for a near fall.

Edwards goes to the apron and then he goes up top. Lethal recovers and he punches Edwards. Lethal with a chop and he puts Edwards on the turnbuckles. Lethal sets for a superplex but Edwards blocks it. Eddie with punches to Lethal and Jay is knocked off the turnbuckles. Edwards tries for a double stomp off the turnbuckles but Lethal moves. Edwards charges into a boot from Lethal.

Edwards with an enzuigiri followed by a backpack stunner for a near fall. Edwards with the Achilles Lock but Lethal with an inside cradle for a near fall. Lethal with a sunset flip but Edwards rolls through and we get a series of near falls exchanged by Eddie and Jay. Lethal with a running palm thrust. Eddie with a running forearm. Edwards with an O’Connor Roll but Lethal counters and gets a near fall. Lethal hits Lethal Injection for the three count.

Winner: Jay Lethal
