Tommaso Ciampa Reportedly Needs Neck Surgery

Last week, we reported that Tommaso Ciampa was reportedly suffering from a neck injury which caused changes to RAW. Ciampa was one of four NXT call-ups to the main roster, along with Johnny Gargano, Ricochet and Aleister Black, but hasn’t been featured since his first week due to the injury.

In the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that the NXT champion is getting neck surgery “in the next couple of days.” WWE confirmed the news and Ciampa will not be wrestling “for a long, long time.” The exact time the champion will be out is unknown, but could be anywhere from 6-14 months (judging from previous neck surgeries).

He noted that since Ciampa is the current NXT champion, he will have to vacate the title and the rumored match with Johnny Gargano at NXT Takeover: New York is no longer going to take place. He said “it was known” that Ciampa was going to be out after Wrestlemania and he’d work through the injury, but the situation likely changed to where “they had to do the surgery now.” As a result, he’s been “pulled from everything.”

WInsider is also reporting that the rumors of Tommaso Ciampa needing neck surgery are true. However, the timetable on when he will be getting the surgery is not yet confirmed.

Per the report, the decision for Ciampa to get neck surgery was made late last week. It’s unknown how WWE plans to handle the issue with Ciampa currently holding the NXT title or competing in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.
