Lucha Underground will tape their two-hour season finale this week, which will air on August 5. It will wrap up all major storylines before a break. There is no contract or set plans for season two, but Lucha Underground is still in negotiations. The original idea was for the show to be a long-term investment for El Rey, who built their channel around it. It will eventually come down to money.
There have been talks of doing a house show tour during the off season. Those plans seem unlikely unless they can sign Rey Mysterio to increase US market sales. However, Mysterio and Alberto El Patron are major expenses. There’s also the chance that Mysterio wouldn’t want to work house shows for a long period of time. Here is the lineup for the season finale:
* Lucha Underground Championship: Prince Puma vs. Mil Muertes
* Lucha Underground Trios Championship: Angelico & Son of Havoc & Ivelisse vs. The Disciples of Death
* Pentagon Jr. vs. Vampiro
* Alberto El Patron vs. Johnny MundoWWE
* El Texano Jr. vs. Blue Demon Jr.
Opinionated View- Again, Lucha Underground has stuff to blow off? Can they actually wait more than two episodes to build up something? Hell they just did a mask vs. mask match on the last show with zero build or reason and no I'm still not over that.
I would not be stunned if LU is a one and done show from what I hear the ratings aren't great and it can really expensive. If your counting on Del Rio and Mysterio to build you in the US you are in trouble. Rey is always hurt and people in the US don't care about Del Rio.
Holy fuck Vampiro and Blue Demon are wrestling on the same show they better tape early so those guys can make the early bird special.
