Smackdown will remain live when it moves to FOX next year, Still slated for Friday night

TheWrap.com is reporting that when Smackdown moves to FOX next year in October, the show will continuing airing live as it has since 2016.
The show was rebranded as “Smackdown Live” two years ago when it was shifted to the USA Network from the Syfy network and moved to Tuesday night.
When news first broke last week that FOX had come to an agreement to bring Smackdown to the network in 2019, it wasn’t immediately clear at the time if the show would become taped when early reports indicated the show would be moving to a Friday night time slot.
It was also reported earlier today by The Hollywood Reporter that numerous FOX executives held a pitch meeting with WWE executives (including Triple H and Stephanie McMahon) back on May 17 to finalize the deal, which will reportedly include plugs for WWE programming across all FOX platforms during major sports coverage. It was also hinted that a new weekly WWE studio show could be planned for FS1 as well.

New details emerge about WWE’s meeting with FOX, Possibly weekly WWE studio show on FS1

The Hollywood Reporter is featuring a lengthy article examining the recent meeting between WWE and FOX to finalize a deal between both parties that would bring Smackdown Live to the broadcast network next year for an estimated $1.025 billion.
The article, by Marisa Guthrie, noted that a pitch meeting took place between WWE and FOX executives on May 17 at the 21st Century Fox’s Manhattan headquarters. FOX executives Eric Shanks, Larry Jones, Rupert Murdoch and CEO Lachlan Murdoch were part of the pitch, while WWE’s Paul “Triple H” Levesque, Stephanie McMahon, Michelle Wilson and George Barrios represented WWE at the meeting.
A photo of Ronda Rousey with Triple H on her shoulders from WrestleMania 34 was said to be projected on an “enormous TV screen” when WWE executives entered the room, along with Fox Sports and FS1 logos superimposed on the image. Around two and a half hours later, a deal was in play to bring Smackdown to FOX in what is expected to be a shift back to Friday night. Whether or not the show will remain airing live remains to be seen.
According to the article, FOX was “eager to acquire WWE’s programming” that includes Monday Night RAW and Smackdown Live. While NBC Universal opted to allow the rights to Smackdown go, they remained committed to Monday Night RAW paying an estimated $265 million. Murdoch, described as FOX’s 87-year-old patriarch, reportedly insisted during the pitch meeting that NBC was “embarrassed by your product.”
As reported earlier, the deal would present a big advertisement opportunity for WWE programming “every night of the week” including major NFL and MLB games. While not official, it would appear this may include a weekly studio show on FS1.
“Fox, he said, would fully embrace WWE, with SmackDown promos airing across sports programming every night of the week, along with a weekly studio show on FS1.”
While representatives for both WWE and FOX have still declined to comment, the new deal will see Smackdown begin airing live next October as part of a five-year deal.

Update on Dr. Chris Amann vs. CM Punk/Colt Cabana

Jury selection began yesterday in Cook County Court in Illinois for the the civil lawsuit by WWE Dr. Chris Amann against CM Punk and Colt Cabana per PWInsider.com.

The lawsuit, filed in February 2015, claims defamation against Phil “CM Punk” Brooks and Scott “Colt Cabana” Colton over comments made on an episode of the “Art of Wrestling” podcast back in November 2014 when Punk first broke his post-WWE silence.

Amann claims statements made by Brooks and Colton on the podcast were false, defamatory and put him in a false light by improperly insinuating “a lack of integrity … and/or inability or lack of competence to perform his professional duties as a medical doctor.” Punk claimed Amann had falsely diagnosed a lump that “grew to the size of a baseball” and later turned into a staph infection. Punk also claimed Amann failed to treat his concussion symptoms saying that he was only prescribed antibiotics as treatment.

Survivor Pits David Vs. Goliath In Season 37

The ultimate game of social strategy returns in the Fall, with an all-new twist.
During the Survivor: Ghost Island finale, host Jeff Probst introduced a sneak peek at Survivor’s next iteration, pitting underdogs versus the favored: In other words, David Vs. Goliath.
For Survivor’s 37th season, brand-new castaways will be sorted into two groups: The Davids, who have scratched and clawed their way through life to prove themselves, overcome adversity, and earned everything they’ve got.
And then there’s the Goliaths, who come from a place of privilege and have capitalized on their advantage to crush the competition, be it in business, education, or the professional wrestling ring.
But social politics can change drastically when you’re stranded on an island in the game of Survivor; as Jeff says in the video above, every Goliath has an Achilles heel, and every David has a secret weapon.
Who will be able to outwit, outplay, and outlast the competition in order to be crowned Sole Survivor?
Stay tuned for more information about Survivor: David Vs. Goliath, coming this Fall on CBS and CBS All Access.

WWE confirms new start time for Money in the Bank and all PPV events on the WWE Network

WWE.com is now listing a new start time of 7:00 p.m. Eastern (6:00 CT) for the upcoming Money in the Bank PPV in four weeks on June 17.
This confirms a report this week stating the company planned to change up the start time of all PPV events by one hour earlier, with shows possibly running as long as four hours. WWE already started informing domestic and international PPV providers about the change.
A report by The Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online indicated that while all events going forward are planned to run four hours, they may not end up going that long. The big four (Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Survivor Series) will also begin at 7:00 p.m. ET, but are expected to run longer than normal PPV events like Money in the Bank.
The change comes following the Backlash PPV a few weeks ago, which was the first dual-branded PPV event featuring talent from both RAW and Smackdown Live. Kickoff Shows are also scheduled to continue and either air for an hour or 30 minutes prior to the PPV. WWE has yet to reveal the official timing schedule for June 17 on the network.
Opinionated View- This is such a stupid idea.

Becky and Alexa have there work cut out for them in the women's. Ronda and Nia has total flop written all over it. Carmella and Askua are awful. And the final capper Roman and Jinder who could ealy be 1 and 2 on the worst list.

WWE increasing PPV length to a four-hour minimum beginning with Money in the Bank PPV

Beginning with the Money in the Bank PPV on June 17 from Chicago, WWE will be increasing the length of all Pay Per View events to a four-hour minimum per multiple wrestling media reports on Monday night.
WWE is said to have informed many of their main domestic and international PPV providers, including InDemand and Sky TV, that the Money in the Bank PPV will be pushed back from its usual 8:00 PM ET start time to a 7:00 PM start time and that most PPV events will begin at 7:00 PM ET going forward.
It is also said that the WWE’s four major PPVs (WrestleMania, SummerSlam, Survivor Series and the Royal Rumble) will all become five-hour PPV events going forward. This is being done as a way to accommodate both rosters for RAW and Smackdown Live, with all non-major events being co-branded on the WWE Network.
It is unknown whether or not the one to two hour Kickoff Shows would continue, although the InDemand website lists the Money in the Bank Kickoff Show at 6:30 PM ET, but InDemand airs a different in-studio Kickoff Show compared to the live Kickoff Show with matches that WWE airs on their WWE Network broadcast.
WWE has not issued any comment nor confirmation on this reported change.
Opinionated View- Awful idea. First they can't even fill 3 hours with commercials for Raw. And the PPV's biggest issues are they drag on now you are adding another hour.

Former OVW star Matt Cappotelli discontinuing treatments to battle brain cancer

In a new blog post that was sent out this past weekend, the wife of former OVW star Matt Cappotelli, Lindsay Cappotelli, revealed that her husband would be discontinuing treatments to battle brain cancer.
Cappotelli, who was the co-winner alongside current Impact star Johnny Impact (John Hennigan) of the third season of WWE Tough Enough in 2002, competed in OVW under a WWE developmental deal until 2006, when it was revealed that Cappotelli had brain cancer (a grade II glioma at that time) and was forced to retire from in-ring competition.
Cappotelli underwent successful brain surgery to remove the tumor in 2007, then after two years of radiation and chemotherapy, was in remission. However in 2017, Cappotelli was diagnosed with brain cancer yet again, with it being a grade IV GBM (GlioBlastoma Multiforme), which is the most deadly form of brain cancer that there is.
Cappotelli again underwent brain surgery, but it was found by doctors that a portion of the tumor inside Cappotelli’s brain was inoperable, leading to the treatments Cappotelli has tried to battle the brain cancer up until present-day.
Several wrestlers, past and present, in OVW had been able to raise and donate money to assist Cappotelli and his family over the last year in assistance for his battle.
Opinionated View- At this stage all you can do is pray for Matt and his family.

More details on new deal between WWE and FOX including what day Smackdown may air

TheWrap.com is featuring an article about the news that broke earlier this morning that WWE has agreed in principle to a new deal to bring Smackdown Live to FOX next Fall.
According to the article, Smackdown would be shifting back to Friday night. It was not revealed if the show would continue to air live or go back to being taped on Tuesday.
The article also indicated the deal would include Smackdown airing on FOX’s flagship broadcast channel instead of cable outlets such as FS1 or FS2. WWE and FOX have continued to decline comment regarding the story breaking today.
ESPN’s Daren Rovell, who broke the story earlier today, noted on Twitter that WWE’s stock price skyrocketed again after news of the FOX deal. As of 2:45 p.m. ET on Monday, WWE stock was currently up to 58.63 with a near 14% increase today.

Report: WWE has “agreed in principle” to bring Smackdown Live to FOX in October 2019

ESPN.com is reporting that WWE has an agreement in principle with FOX, described as a “massive” offer, to bring Smackdown Live to the network in October of 2019.
WWE representatives declined to comment on the story, while any representatives for FOX were not immediately reached at the time of the report on Monday morning.
A report last week by the Hollywood Reporter indicated NBC Universal was interested in retaining Monday Night RAW for “triple the rights fee amount”, all the while declining the option to renew Smackdown Live which airs live every Tuesday on the USA Network.
Smackdown Live has been averaging 2.59 million viewers per week in 2018 and has been part of the NBC Universal family on cable since October of 2010, airing first on the SyFy network and then moving to the USA Network in 2016.
Back in February, FOX executives attended a Smackdown Live taping in Los Angeles including on-air personality Colin Cowherd. Not long later, Cowherd hinted on air that WWE programming was “coming to a network near you.”
We will continue to follow this story as it develops.
