Rey Mysterio Likely to Appear at Sunday’s TripleMania Event

According to Steve Sims at F4WOnline.com, here is the latest on Rey Mysterio. During a recent edition of Figure Four Weekly, Sims noted that Mysterio had been invited to Sunday's TripleMania event. At this time, it is only a scheduled appearance, and he is not expected to wrestle. Mysterio is looking to get out of WWE, but as previously reported, WWE feels that he owes them a year because of the time he's been off due to injuries. Mysterio is still a WWE employee, but rumors are that he stopped cashing his WWE checks, and there were rumblings that the situation could potentially become a legal issue.

Update on the AAA US Based TV Show

AAA's series on The El Rey Network will begin taping in late August, PWInsider.com has confirmed. The original taping dates began on 8/24, but we've heard it may have been pushed back a few days. The series will film in Los Angeles.
Former New Japan and ROH star Ricky Reyes, who was on WWE's radar, has signed for the series. I've heard several former WWE names have signed or are in the process of finalizing deals for the series. Once we confirm those names, we'll post.
Former WWE creative team member Chris DeJoseph is working on the series in a producer's role.
There has been a lot of talk about the series, which is scheduled for an eight episode first season this Fall on El Rey, with some of the pitches for it being really "far out" in comparison to traditional wrestling TV. Once the series starts taping, we'll see what form it actually takes.

Press Release on AAA's New Show on El Rey

The following press release was issued yesterday with more information on Lucha Libre promotion AAA's new show on the El Rey cable network:
BEGINNING WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 8, EL REY NETWORK AND ONE THREE MEDIA LAUNCH A NEW NIGHT OF ORIGINAL UNSCRIPTED CONTENT WITH THE HIGH-FLYING ACTION OF 'LUCHA: UPRISING' (WT) AND THE EDGY ARTISTRY AND ANTICS OF A NEW BREED OF BARBERS IN 'CUTTING CREW'
Beverly Hills, CA – July 10, 2014 – Beginning Wednesday, October 8, El Rey Network will expand its commitment to original content with a second night of programming anchored by two new unscripted series, a new one-hour "Lucha: Uprising" (WT) from Emmy Award®-winning producer Mark Burnett featuring character-driven freestyle wrestling; and "Cutting Crew," chronicling the antics and edgy artistry of a new breed of barbers.
Scott Sassa, El Rey Network's Vice Chair, said: "Launching a new night of originals so early in the life of El Rey might seem counterintuitive to some but it's actually quite strategic. We feel that 'Lucha' and 'Cutting Crew' are the perfect addition to our lineup and will be a compelling watch for El Rey's very passionate and engaged audience. We are excited to be working with Mark, One Three Media and the production team at Big Vida to bring these two entertaining programs to television."
Long a fan of Lucha Libre, a Mexican franchise that has an 85% market share on television, El Rey is banking on American television viewers being drawn in by the high-flying antics and colorful world of freestyle wrestling. Each week "Lucha: Uprising" (WT) will bring drama, excitement and action as the masked heroes and villains battle it out in the ring for wrestling supremacy. The weekly, one-hour series from the producers One Three Media serves as a foundation for a new sports entertainment business, with which Burnett has partnered with El Rey Network, its founder, Robert Rodriguez, Lucha Libre AAA, FactoryMade Ventures and Antonio Cue Sanchez-Navarro.
In addition to Burnett and One Three Media, El Rey Network's weekly series will also be executive produced by Rodriguez and by FactoryMade and El Rey co-founders John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa. One Three Media's chief operating officer Brian Edwards will join the venture's board with current board members Dorian Roldan from Lucha Libre AAA, Cue Sanchez-Navarro, and Fogelman and Patwa. The series will be distributed internationally by One Three Media.
"Cutting Crew" explores the edgy artistry of a dynamic team of barbers who have made a name for themselves by thinking outside the stylist box. Produced by Big Vida Entertainment for El Rey Network, "Cutting Crew" is comprised of eight, hour-long installments.
Showcasing masterful motifs that are anything but ordinary, this group of creatives knows how to make a statement. Whether they are executing a simple fade, an elaborate or memorable design, or shaving back hair into the shape of a Batman emblem, the passionate team of "scissor-happy" artistes use razors and clippers to get The Job done. At the barbershop, there is a serious dedication to the craft, but there is nothing serious about the raucous crew that works for award-winning barber Amit Corso who opened his shop outside of Philadelphia in 2005 (after spending most of his young life tortured by his mother's DIY haircuts). But barbering isn't the only thing going on at the shop-- in between the fades and shaves, this band of barbers finds time to bicker, debate, joke around and cook up challenges that range from testing feats of strength to more juvenile endeavors that just give everyone a good chuckle. But in the end, it's the camaraderie in this diverse group that is the heart of "Cutting Crew."
"Cutting Crew" is produced by BIG VIDA Entertainment for El Rey Network. Executive Producers are: Sergio Alfaro, Flavio Morales, John Ehrhard and FactoryMade Ventures and El Rey Network co-founders John Fogelman and Cristina Patwa.

The Original Mistico/Sin Cara Working With AAA

This week AAA confirmed the card for their big 06/07 “Verano de Escandalo” card and it will feature the official in-ring return of the original Mistico/Sin Cara. The most shocking this is that AAA is advertising him under the “Mistico” name which is owned by CMLL, AAA’s main rival in Mexico. CMLL even currently has a new version of the “Mistico” character though he is out with a severe leg injury at the moment.
Mistico originally debuted in AAA back in February at a TV taping but he simply appeared in the shadows wearing a hood while his original Mistico music played. Then earlier this month he once again returned wearing all white to attack his old CMLL rival Averno, who is also still using the CMLL owned “Averno” name (in fact AAA recently debuted veteran wrestler Ricky Marvin under a new character called “Bengala” which is also a name CMLL owns as they have had an undercard luchador working with that name for years). Mistico then again appeared last week at a TV Taping wearing his old Mistico gear. He then took off his mask to reveal a new all white, with gold eye holes, mask, but now AAA is advertising him on the poster for the event in the old Mistico mask so it seems that he is just going to revert back to his old name and look rather than coming up with something new.
Mistico will team with AAA’s Cibernetico and La Parka Jr. in the Main Event against Averno, Perro Aguayo Jr., and Chessman. Both Perro and Averno are considered the biggest rivals in Mistico’s career and he is also very good friends with Averno. Mistico really made a name for himself in feuds against Perro, Averno, and Black Warrior, who too is in AAA right now, back in CMLL.
There have been tons of controversies in Mexico over the use of names. When the original La Parka left AAA he fought to continue using the name but eventually a court order stopped him from doing so now he goes by the name L.A. Park. When the original Psicosis left AAA he was forced to change his name to Nicho el Millionario before recently reverting back to the Psicosis name in AAA. When Psicosis II and Histeria II left AAA they continued to use those names for years following their AAA departure before finally CMLL officially changed their names to Ripper and Morphosis. It would be hard to believe that CMLL will not attempt to fight AAA using both the “Averno” and “Mistico” names at some point though AAA doesn’t seem too worried about it at the moment.

Original Sin Cara Says He Owns the Gimmick

The original Sin Cara appeared on the new edition of Mexican wrestling show Tercera Caída. I watched the show and translated the interview from Spanish to English.

The hosts asked him why there is a new Sin Cara wrestling and he responded that he wasn't sure. He said that he was still under contract with WWE when they started using the new Sin Cara.

Cara stated that he owns the character of Sin Cara and that perhaps his lawyers would be taking a look into it, since he has proof he owns Sin Cara.

Cara then stated that he doesn't have anything against the new Sin Cara, Alberto Del Rio or anyone in WWE.

While talking about his run in the company, Cara said that WWE told him he couldn't wrestle the way he did in Mexico. He said that psychologically that had an effect his work since he was limited in what he could do in the ring.

Cara said that he never understood it because they brought him from Mexico knowing the style of wrestling he did, but then told him he couldn't do it in WWE.

He said that led to him not working as hard, gained weight, etc. but now he's once again focused and looking forward to wrestling again in Mexico.

Opinionated View- Well this could get interesting.

Update on the Future of Sin Cara

- As previously reported, when Sin Cara's (the former Mistico) WWE contract ends, he is not expected to be re-signed by the company. Cara is now expected to sign with AAA in Mexico. This is due to the fact that his relationship with CMLL ended badly, and also because CMLL has created a new Mistico.

The Original Sin Cara Returning To The Ring In Mexico

According to Kris Zellner and Pwinsider.com, Sin Cara (Mistico) has announced that he will wrestle on February 1st at the 1st Anniversary of his Sin Cara Gym in Mexico City where he will promote a card to celebrate. With WWE replacing him on TV with Hunico and this announcement, the feeling that the earlier reports of WWE not renewing his contract are confirmed.

Opinionated View- The interesting thing will be how long he will be allowed to use the name Sin Cara since I assume WWE has the rights to it. I do hope this guy can get his career going again prior to the WWE he was a amazing talent.

Mexico's AAA coming to U.S. television, big time producer involved

Television producer Mark Burnett is brining Mexico's AAA promotion to the United States via the new El Rey television network. "Starting this business with a new television series on a cutting-edge network like El Rey is very exciting," Burnett stated in a press release.

"And it doesn't end there. Wrestling is a billion-dollar business in the U.S., and with partners like Robert Rodriguez, Lucha Libre AAA and the rest of our great team, our new lucha libre league will make that market even bigger."

Opinionated View- From what I understand El Rey is an english language channel that targets latinos. Will be interesting to see if it catches on.

Lucha Star Gets Sentenced to Over Seven Years in Jail

After almost serving two years in prison awaiting sentencing for almost murdering two police officers, Jesús Luna Pozos aka Charly Manson (Charly Malice in Lucha Libre USA) was sentenced on Monday 8/26 to 7 years and 4 months in federal prison.
The incident happened on April 24th, 2011 when Manson was arrested in Zapotitla, Mexico after assaulting four police officers as they were trying to arrest him for being drunk. Manson and his friend Adrián López Reyes (who was also a juvenile) were looking for Charly’s car and couldn’t find it so they found the officers to help them because they thought that they had been carjacked but the cops wanted to bring them in for being drunk so a huge argument ensued.
Another police officer showed up as backup and in the excitement of the situation, he shot Reyes in the leg before an ambulance showed up to pick up Reyes and the officers. Charly and Reyes were both taken to jail then Reyes was sent to a hospital while the officers were sent to another one with one of the officers having some serious head injuries.
Román Castañeda Castro who was the police officer that was severely injured by Manson was revealed to have suffered a fractured skull with brain trauma and his partner Moisés Izaguirre Baños had to have surgery on his nose.
At the time, Luis Genaro Vázquez who is the deputy Attorney General for the PGJDF said that with Manson being adverse in wrestling they were treating this case even more serious than a regular fight with police because Manson's extremities were considered as weapons against defenseless policemen.

The full legal report at the time was as follows:

The attorney general's office of the Justicia del Distrito Federal (PGJDF) exercised penal action against the professional wrestler Jesús Luna Pozos whose professional name is Charly Manson and Adrián López Reyes who was his driver for probable responsibility of assault qualified by acting advantage against agents of the authority. Through the Fiscalía Desconcentrada de Investigación en Tláhuac, la Subprocuraduría de Averiguaciones Previas Desconcentradas reported that Manson & Reyes were consigned before the penal judge that was on duty at Reclusorio Preventivo Varonil Sur since ministerially the accusations were accredited by injuring two preventive police officers with fighting tactics of his art. According to registered information on the early morning of April 24, 2011, the wrestler Charly Manson in the company of his driver Adrián López Reyes were found on calle (street) Bartolomé Escobedo, colonia Agrícola Metropolitana as they were trying to look for their vehicle after requesting police assistance. The police showed up and were told by Manson they were looking for a red Dodge Caliber that wasn't parked where it was supposed to be at. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers questioned them on how they lost their vehicle which during the questioning the wrestler started pushing the cops which started a clash. Manson then employed his lucha libre know-how by striking police officer Moisés Izaguirre Baños in the face causing an orbital fracture in his right eye and a fractured jawbone meanwhile Román Castañeda Castro suffered a fractured skull with brain trauma. Two more assisting officers arrived at the scene where they joined the fray where they proceeded to detain Manson & Reyes then taking them to Ministerio Público de la Coordinación Territorial Tláhuac Dos where the corresponding prior inquiry was initiated. It will take 60 days or more for Castro to heal so penal action will be exercised against Manson & Reyes. The legal argument consigned to Manson & Reyes is found established in article 130, fraction III with the qualification that the crime was committeed with advantage predicted in the article 130 relating to the 134 which is aggrevated assault against the legitimate exercise of the authority predicted in the article 289 of the penal code of the federal district. Regarding maximum and minimum punishments, the medium term is greater to 5 years with the maximum being 8 to 10 years as this is treated like a serious crime therefore there is no benefit of low precaution.

AAA's lawyers bailed Charly Manson out of prison on May 4th, 2011 and he went back to work for the promotion until June 30th, 2011 when Manson was arrested after the AAA TV taping in Tizayuca on a warrant placed by the judge revoking his bail and was transferred to Mexico City early Friday morning where he has been in jail ever since. This stems from the attack on the police officers in April that sent him to prison to begin with before bail was met on May 3rd, 2011 but the judge decided to revoke the bail and Manson had been in prison ever since.
Reyes did his prison time and has been released on parole.
