Rey Mysterio To Headline Lucha Underground Second Two?

- The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that Rey Mysterio was backstage at the Lucha Undergound season finale taping. Mysterio didn’t appear before cameras but is expected to be the promotion’s top star for their still-unannounced second season.

Everyone at the show was told that a second season is absolutely happening, with the plan to run a thirty-nine week season with a short off-season. Lucha Underground EP Eric Van Wagenen will be working closely with Mark Burnett on The Apprentice for the next few months, which is likely the reason for the programming gap.

Opinionated View- Again if you are counting on Rey to be the top star you are doing some foolish math. I used to joke a stiff wind would hurt Rey and that's not fair. Because a light breeze does it.

Rey Mysterio Gives Update on Lucha Underground Talks

Rey Mysterio told the Wrestling Obsever that he is close to a deal with Lucha Underground. Mysterio signed with AAA soon after he officially parted ways with WWE and has been rumored to join Lucha Underground, who has ties with AAA, ever since.

Rey Mysterio Reportedly Considering Retirement Following The Death of Perro Aguayo Jr.

Following the death of Perro Aguayo Jr., Rey Mysterio is reportedly contemplating retiring from wrestling. Rey Bucanero recently spoke with La Aficion, and stated that Mysterio is thinking about retiring. The Cubs Fan over at The Lucha Blog also reports that those who know Mysterio have indicated the same to him.

As previously reported, Perro Aguayo Jr passed away last Friday night during a match where he was tagging with TNA’s Manik. They were facing off with Rey Mysterio Jr and Extreme Tiger (TNA’s Tigre Uno) during a CRASH event in Tijuana.
Opinionated View- It would be really sad if Rey's career ended like this. But I would understand it. No one should blame Rey for what happened but just losing close friend could be enough to push him over to saying "That's it."

Rey Mysterio To Sign With Lucha Underground By The Weekend?

While the contract has not yet been signed, The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports Rey Mysterio is still expected to sign on with Lucha Underground. The site reports that it is possible it could all be done in time for him to make his debut at the TV tapings this weekend in Los Angeles.
The plan is to have Rey work a very limited in-ring schedule in order to extend his wrestling career as long as possible. His dates would be mostly TV, major live shows and PPVs with Lucha Underground and AAA.

Opinionated View- It's Rey it doesn't matter how much you try to limit him he will still get hurt. Hell a stiff wind tore his ACL once.

Rey Mysterio Has Potential Legal Battle Ahead with WWE

The Wrestling Observer  has more details on potential legal and financial issues that could arise between former Superstar Rey Mysterio (real name Oscar Gutierrez) after his exit from the company. Most of the financial issues come from the name and trademark of Rey Mysterio.

WWE reportedly owns the US trademarks on Rey Mysterio in terms of name, image, and likeness for merchandising, clothing, and anything related to using the name in conjunction with pro wrestling exhibitions.

Mysterio is currently being advertised as Rey Mysterio Jr in AAA, Rey Mysterio for a nightclub appearance during WrestleMania weekend, and elsewhere as Rey Misterio. As mentioned earlier, Mysterio is charging $20,000 per appearance. The article speculates that the situation between Mysterio and WWE could get ugly due to the name and trademark issues of “Rey Mysterio.” Both sides could apparently cite injuries, previous drug test failures, and race in making their legal arguments.

In addition, Mysterio stopped cashing in his WWE checks for the last year. He did out of concern that cashing the checks would hurt his potential legal battler later on. According to Mysterio, he is 100 percent healthy now, and he plans to return to the ring later in 2015.

Backstage News On WWE's Reaction To Rey Mysterio's Working Elsewhere, Lucha UG's Plans

By making Rey Mysterio the face of AAA and Lucha Underground, officials there are hoping that Mysterio's popularity with the Mexican-American community, as well as in Mexico, is strong enough that his name can help both brands get a better TV presence.

Rey is expected to be pushed as Lucha Underground's top star beginning with their next set of tapings on March 21st.

There's been a feeling within WWE that the longer Rey was kept off WWE TV, the less it would mean when he debuted with a new promotion.

Rey Mysterio’s WWE Exit Took a Year Longer Than He Expected

- The Wrestling Observer has a new report on what went down between WWE and Rey Mysterio agreeing to his recent release from the promotion. According to the report, WWE and Rey Mysterio reached an agreement for his release around last November or December. The agreement was that he would be released in February.

In addition, the agreement reportedly had a stipulation that if news of Mysterio’s release leaked before February, the WWE would not honor the agreement, and WWE would hold Mysterio to the full extent of his contract until it expired. Per the deal, neither side will disparage or insult the other, hence Mysterio staying quiet about his release over the last week. There was little fanfare when WWE moved Mysterio from the roster page to the alumni section of WWE.com on February 26.
Initially, Mysterio had made a handshake agreement with Triple in 2014 that he would leave WWE. However, McMahon then renewed his deal for a year to compensate for all the time Mysterio missed due to injuries. This resulted in Mysterio’s release taking a year longer than originally expected.

 WWE had hoped he would work another program between Survivor Series and WrestleMania 31 as a send off, but those plans fell through. In addition, Mysterio did not have any desire to perform again.

Apparently potential legal issues that have arisen include Mysterio’s name and appearances at Lucha Underground and AAA. These issues upset WWE officials, but both sides have a lot of potential “dirty laundry,” which has kept both parties quiet with the recent departure.

Rey Mysterio To Only Wrestle For LU and AAA?

Rey Mysterio is currently receiving several offers (for $20,000) for upcoming non-wrestling independent appearances/autograph signings. While he will not be able to command the price for long, Mysterio is making the most of his newfound freedom from WWE.

At this time, Mysterio is excited to get back into the ring but the feeling is that he will only work with Lucha Underground and/or AAA. Lucha Underground and AAA both want to use Mysterio because they both believe that the addition of Mysterio’s star power could lead to better TV clearances.

Update on Rey Mysterio’s Wrestling Future

According to f4wonline.com, there was an agreement in place where WWE would announce Mysterio no longer being with the company today, but the news got out and WWE confirmed it yesterday.

Official announcements regarding his future are said to be coming, but word is that he will wrestle for Lucha Underground and AAA. AAA has a press conference scheduled for Tuesday. At this time, Mysterio is reportedly asking for between $15,000 and $20,000 for independent appearances. One independent promoter stated that you could gross about $25,000 for photos and autographs with him right now and make money.

WWE​ Confirms Rey Mysterio ​ is No Longer Under Contract

WWE has confirmed in a statement to the media on Thursday that Rey Mysterio is no longer under contract with the company. Mysterio's profile was quietly moved to the WWE Alumni section of WWE.com this week.

A new report has revealed that an agreement went into play between Mysterio and WWE in late November/early December that they would release him at the end of February from his contract. Mysterio is expected to head to AAA as the company has announced a press conference for Tuesday in Mexico City.

Former WWE Champion Rey Mysterio has been moved to the Alumni section of WWE.com. While WWE has not issued a statement, this usually indicates that a talent is done with the company.Mysterio signed with WWE in June of 2002 and went on to win the World Heavyweight Championship twice, and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship once. Negotiations between Rey Mysterio and WWE are said to be almost done and Rey could have his official release from the company soon. We should be hearing about Rey's post-WWE plans in the next few months. Apparently Rey has been working on putting together signing appearances as a number of promoters are reportedly waiting to make announcements. Rumor: Rey Mysterio In the Royal Rumble

- It's said there is a very small chance that Rey Mysterio appears in the 30-man Royal Rumble main event on Sunday, according to F4Wonline.com. Anything is possible but we likely won't know anything on Rey's status for a few more months.

Opinionated View- You never know you could see a situation where WWE might have said "You want a release Rey than you must make _____ appearances." Of course this being Rey odds are if he appears in the rumble he will hurt himself.

WWE Not Planning to Bring Back Rey Mysterio?

- The ongoing saga of Rey Mysterio’s WWE status continues. As previously reported, there was a plan put together to have Mysterio involved in a storyline that would run from Survivor Series through WrestleMania, but that obviously never happened.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, that storyline would have ended in Mysterio’s likely departure from the company. With the storyline being dropped, there are no plans to bring Mysterio back in and Creative has been told not to worry about coming up with anything for him.

- The Wrestling Observer reports that WWE Creative was previously told to come up with a new storyline for Rey Mysterio. Per the report, the new storyline was apparently supposed to take Mysterio from around Survivor Series to WrestleMania 31.

Survivor Series took place, and Mysterio has still been off TV, so if the report is to be believed, the storyline for Mysterio was tossed aside. According to a previous report, the creative team was still thinking of ideas for Mysterio, but he was not interested in coming back to WWE. In addition, Mysterio was looking to leave WWE and work outside the company.

Rey Mysterio Expected Back on WWE TV Soon?

- According to The Wrestling Observer, WWE is expecting Rey Mysterio back on TV soon. As previously reported, Mysterio has been in conflict with WWE over his contract and has been trying to get out of it, but WWE wanted to extend his deal again due to the significant amount of time he has missed due to injuries.

According to the report, Vince McMahon bent a little to Mysterio’s terms because the company is light on top draws in the Hispanic market. As such, Mysterio’s plans to depart the company and potentially jump to either AAA or Lucha Underground are on hold and he will be returning. WWE plans to use Mysterio both as an in-ring talent and outside of the ring, including heavy promotional work and as an “ambassador” for the company. That term has been increasingly used to give older stars a role within the company without requiring them to be full-time performers, such as Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan

Latest Update on Rey Mysterio Meeting With Vince McMahon

The latest on Rey Mysterio attending the 11/3 WWE RAW taping in Buffalo is that Mysterio met with both Vince McMahon and Paul "Triple H" Levesque. While it was described that "nothing difinitive" came out of the meetings, Vince made it clear that he wants Mysterio to return to the ring for the company and was the main reason the meeting went down in the first place. WWE reportedly wants Mysterio back working on a fairly regular schedule between now and WrestleMania 31. Mysterio's current extension expires in late April 2015. WWE creative was told to start coming up with ideas for him.

Details on Rey Mysterio’s Backstage Meeting with WWE Officials

- A report from The Wrestling Observer has more details on the apparent backstage meeting with Rey Mysterio and WWE officials regarding Mysterio’s future in the company. The meeting included Triple H and Vince McMahon and as previously reported, Mysterio was apparently not interested in returning to WWE TV.

The meeting reportedly took place in Buffalo, New York on November 3 before Raw. McMahon apparently wants Mysterio to return to the WWE, but Mysterio is said to not be interested. The meeting was run by McMahon, despite Triple H being in charge of the overall day-to-day operations in the company.

While the meeting apparently did not go well, it is believed that Mysterio will work out a compromise with the company to work some more dates before the end of his current WWE contract, which is set to expire at the end of April 2015. This compromise could have Mysterio working regular dates from the period of now until WrestleMania 31.

Rey Mysterio Turns Down WWE Attempt To Bring Him Back

- As previously reported, Rey Mysterio met with WWE last week at Raw with Vince McMahon tasking the creative team with coming up with ways to bring him back to WWE TV. However, it appears that isn’t to be. The Wrestling Observer reports that Mysterio turned down the offer to return and plans to persue other ventures once his deal expires in the spring.
