Chris Hero Raises $3440 For ALS & Wrestled Over Three Hours

Chris Hero wrestled for over three hours on Sunday in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, for Smash Wrestling. Hero started out raising money for ALS stating that for every $500 he would wrestle for 30-minutes. Hero’s Infinity Gauntlet drive for ALS raised $3440, and here are results from the event…

Why Did Chris Hero Decide Against Signing a Deal with ROH?

- F4WOnline reports that despite making a few appearances for ROH after his WWE release, Chris Hero did not want to be locked down with a contract that would limit him from certain indie appearances. Hero's last match for the promotion was on March 8 against Adam Cole.

"The Last Real Man" Silas Young vs. Matt Taven

Crowd chants for Taven before the bell. Code of Honor as the bell sounds. "Shave your mustache" chants directed towards Silas. Silas backs Taven into the corner, shoulder to the ribs and a gut shot. Silas piefaces Taven, but Taven with right hands. Silas with a side headlock takeover. Taven tries for an Irish whip, but Silas holds onto Taven's hair. Silas with knee strikes, then Taven slips out of a suplex. Silas blocks an O'Connor Roll, but Taven with an armdrag and a dropkick. Taven runs into double boots by Silas in the corner, but Silas misses a clothesline. Taven with a rana, then rolls through and hits a chest kick, followed by a standing moonsault for a nearfall. Silas rolls out to the outside, then as Taven is distracted by Truth Martini heading out to ringside, Silas gets back in and hits Taven from behind. Taven sent off the turnbuckles. Silas catches double boots and sends Taven onto the apron. Silas misses a right hand and Taven hits a roundhouse kick. Taven heads up top, crossbody for a nearfall. Silas avoids a corner charge and sends Taven back onto the apron. Taven with a shoulder to the ribs, then goes for a slingshot sunset flip, but Silas blocks it and stomps away at Taven. Chinlock applied, with Silas's knee driven into Taven's back.

Commercial

Back from commercial as Taven tries to fight out of the chinlock, but Silas slams him back down. Silas with a knee to the ribs and a forearm. Silas blocks Taven going up & over and crotches him on the ropes. Silas then springs off the middle rope and nails Taven with a clothesline that sends Taven all the way to the outside! Ref begins his 20 count as Silas yells at the ref to count faster. Taven gets back in, Silas gains a nearfall. Forearm as Silas trash talks Taven. Taven avoids a corner charge, enziguri, both men down. Silas misses a clothesline, Taven with a leg lariat. Silas misses a right hand, Taven with a spinning back kick, a front kick and a spinning side kick. Silas avoids a springboard with Taven landing on his feet. Taven misses a clothesline, but hits a superkick. Springboard moonsault for a nearfall. Silas comes back with a jawbreaker. Silas with the backbreaker part of the Killer Combo, but Taven avoids the clothesline. Silas blocks Angels' Wings, big clothesline for a nearfall. Silas is getting frustrated. Silas with the Finlay Roll. Taven avoids the Pee Gee Waja Plunge, hits the Cyclone Kill.

Taven celebrates his win, then adheres to the Code of Honor with Silas. Taven goes to leave, but Silas attacks him. Martini comes in and cheers Silas on as Silas lays out Taven. Martini goes to shake Silas's hand, but Silas walks past him and leaves the ring, with Martini clapping for Silas. Martini taunts Taven, but Taven comes to and chases Martini to the back.

Ring of Honor Television Title: 2014 Top Prospect Tournament winner Hanson vs. "The Sicilian Psychopath" Tommaso Ciampa (c)

Pre-match intros for this one as both men stare each other down. Loud reaction for Ciampa. Code of Honor as the bell sounds. Both men instantly slug it out early, with Hanson taking over. Hanson runs into a boot, then Ciampa with a series of forearms and stomps in the corner. Down comes the kneepad. Ciampa off the ropes, avoids the Spin Kick of Doom by Hanson. Ciampa then BACK SUPLEXES HANSON OVER THE ROPES AND TO THE OUTSIDE!! Ciampa with a head of steam and wipes out Hanson with a no-ropes plancha! Hanson sent into the barricade and seated on a chair next to the barricade. Ciampa charges and hits a running knee while Hanson is against the barricade. Hanson placed on another chair by the barricade. Ciampa charges and hits another running knee. Back in, Hanson catches Ciampa with a spinning front slam for a nearfall. Hanson with a series of crossface shots to the head. Ciampa goes off Hanson's blind side, then catches him off a leapfrog attempt, Air Raid Crash for a nearfall. Strike exchange, with both men going off the ropes before hitting the other. Ciampa with 2 running boots, Hanson misses a clothesline and Ciampa with an enziguri, backing up Hanson again. Hanson with a CARTWHEEL, then TAKES CIAMPA's HEAD OFF with a clothesline for a nearfall. Ciampa slips out of a slam, roll-through into a Knockout Knee, but Hanson kicks out! Ciampa is starting to get frustrated. Ciampa goes for Project Ciampa, but Hanson drives him into the corner. Series of back elbows by Hanson, then hits a Bronco Buster in the corner. Hanson heads up top, MOONSAULT!!! 1-2....NO!! Ciampa quickly locks Hanson in the Sicilian Stretch, but Hanson GETS TO HIS FEET WITH CIAMPA ON HIS SHOULDERS! Ciampa slips out, SPIN KICK OF DOOM!! However, Ciampa rolls out to the apron. Hanson tries to bring Ciampa back in, but Ciampa clings to the ropes. Hanson with chest clubs, but Ciampa comes back with a leaping knee. Ciampa heads up top, but Hanson stops him. Hanson heads up with Ciampa and goes for a Super Samoan Drop, but Ciampa slips out.

Ciampa then goes underneath Hanson, lifts him up from the out of the corner, PROJECT CIAMPA!!! 1-2-3!! WOW!!

Ciampa celebrates his title retention afterwards, then adheres to the Code of Honor with Hanson. Crowd gives Hanson a nice ovation and chants for him. Ciampa & Hanson then hold the ropes open for each other as they leave.

ROH match-maker Nigel McGuinness comes out before the main event and says for ROH World Title matches, you want a clear winner and a clear loser, none of that "sports-entertainment" stuff. So, I have made sure that Jay Briscoe, Michael Elgin, Michael Bennett & Maria Kanellis have left the building and gone back to their hotels, so there will be a clear winner, a clear loser and the best damn wrestling in the world.

Nigel joins commentary for the main event.

Main Event for the Ring of Honor World Title: "The Knockout Artist" Chris Hero vs. "The One" Adam Cole (c)

Pre-match intros for the main event. Big reaction for Hero. Code of Honor before the bell. Hero instantly locks in a cravate, Cole quickly gets to the ropes. Hero grabs Cole's leg, takes him down, gets a 1 count. Pinning predicament for a nearfall. Cole goes to the outside to re-group. Hero motions for Cole to get back in. Cole wants a knucklelock, but Hero catches a gut kick, roll-up for a nearfall. Chop, then Cole applies a side headlock. Cole with a shoulder tackle, then yells "Adam Cole BAY-BAY!!" Cole goes for a leapfrog, but Hero catches him in mid-air with a boot to the chest for a nearfall. Chop and a slam by Hero, followed by a back senton for a nearfall. Spinning senton for a nearfall. Cole backs Hero into the corner and stomps away. Cole has words with the ref, but then Hero comes back with another chop. Cole holds onto the ropes to avoid a boot and goes back to the outside to re-group. Cole stalls for a bit, then breaks the ref's count. Hero is getting upset as Cole says "You gotta beat me!" Hero goes to the outside and begins giving chase. Cole starts running, but runs right into a boot by Hero as Hero drew Cole in. Another Mafia Kick by Hero. Back in, Cole avoids another Mafia Kick by Hero and goes to the apron, but Hero, not to be denied, still hits Cole with it, sending Cole back to the outside. Hero with a head of steam, but Cole avoids it and sweeps out Hero's legs from the apron, then hits an enziguri.

Back in, Cole gains a nearfall. Forearm and an elbow to the back of the head. Cole chokes Hero in the ropes. Hero comes back with a chop, but Cole with a kick to the head. Cole off the ropes and applies the Ultraviolent Chinlock. Hero tries to get to his feet, but Cole takes him back down. Crowd wills on Hero. Cole with a gut kick, but Hero with a knee to get out of a suplex. La Magistral for a nearfall. Cole comes back with a Shining Wizard for a nearfall, then the crowd makes fun of Cole's grunting when someone kicks out. Cole tells the crowd to "shove it", then hits a series of right hands to Hero, but each one fires Hero up more. Cole yells at Hero to "stay down", but Hero comes back with a series of chops. Hero goes for the rolling elbow, but Cole with a kick to the knee. Cole points to his head to show how smart he is, but the crowd again makes fun of his grunting. Cole goes for a suplex, but Hero counters it with the Crash Landing.

Crowd chants for Hero. Cole runs into a knee strike, misses a clothesline and Hero hits a running neckbreaker, followed by a flipping neckbreaker. Hero charges and hits a running forearm in the corner. Hero catches a Cole kick and hits a knee strikes, sending Cole to the outside. Hero then with a running dropkick through the bottom and middle ropes, sending Cole crashing into the barricade! Hero is all fired up. Back in, Hero with a slingshot curb stomp to a doubled over Cole, followed by the rolling elbow, but Cole kicks out! Hero is starting to get frustrated. Hero goes for the Electric Death Blow, but Cole slips out. Hero blocks an O'Connor Roll and hits a sliding dropkick. Cravate Suplex for a nearfall. Big right hand and a Mafia Kick in the corner. Hero places Cole up top and goes up with him. Cole knocks Hero off the ropes, but Hero with another Mafia Kick. Hero heads back up top and locks in a Cravate, but Cole sends Hero onto the apron. Cole misses a forearm off the ropes, but hits a pump kick. Cole drapes Hero across the ropes, PANAMA SUNSET!! 1-2...........HERO KICKS OUT!!

Cole can't believe it as the crowd continues to mock him. Cole talks trash, but the crowd just continues to mock him. Cole piefaces Hero and tells him to stay down. Cole does another "Adam Cole BAYBAY!", but then Hero with a short hook shot that knocks out Cole! 1-2.......NO!! Hero lifts up Cole and says "Adam Cole is DEAD!!" ELECTRIC DEATH BLOW, but it sends Cole to the outside! Hero tries to lift up Cole, but Cole is dead-weight. Crowd chants "You killed Cole." Hero rolls Cole back in, but Cole rolls back out to the outside. Hero then charges and hits another Mafia Kick. Hero goes to put Cole back in, but Cole counters with a RELEASE GERMAN ON THE OUTSIDE!! Back in, Cole with the brainbuster across the knee, but HERO KICKS OUT AGAIN!! Cole can't believe it! "This is awesome" chants by the crowd. Cole goes for the Florida Key, but as Hero tries to get out with a back elbow, he accidentally hits the ref, knocking him down and all the way to the outside. Hero blocks a Cole superkick, HERO's WELCOME, STRETCH PLUM ALPHA, COLE TAPS, but there's no ref!! Nigel checks on the ref as the crowd chants "you tapped out." Hero releases the hold and goes to see what is going on. Hero goes for the Death Blow, but Cole slips out and hits an enziguri. Hero with another Mafia Kick, but Cole with a pump kick. Hero goes for another rolling elbow, but Cole catches him with a superkick as the ref gets back in. FLORIDA KEY, HERO KICKS OUT!!

Cole holds on, 2 more FLORIDA KEYS!! 1-2-3!!

Cole celebrates his title retention as Nigel sees the replay that shows Cole tapping out while the ref was knocked down. Crowd chants "you tapped out" at Cole, but Cole shows off his belt to the crowd. The crowd mocks Cole again, but he yells "Adam Cole BAYBAY!!" as we close the show.

3/8 ROH in Chicago Ridge results (TV spoilers)

-Jake Dirden defeated Will Ferrara in the pre-show match.

1. Michael Elgin defeated Tyson Dux with Elgin Bomb. Elgin put over Dux as mentor and friend after the match.

2. Roderick Strong and BJ Whitmer defeated Adrenaline Rush. Strong pinned Thomas with the Sick Kick. Adam Page wore a Decade shirt with Strong and Whitmer

3. Michael Bennett (w/Maria Kanellis) defeated Jay Lethal. Bennett won with a roll up holding onto the tights

4. The Briscoes defeated Homicide & Eddie Kingston in a No DQ match. The match started out regular until a brawl started and was turned into a NO DQ match

Romantic Touch came out to cut a promo. He called himself a great wrestler and lover. He hit on Scarlett. Touch called the fans virgins and then forcibly kissed Scarlett. Scarlett was apparently okay with this.

5. Silas Young defeated Matt Taven who was distracted by Truth being at the entrance way. Taven beat up Young afterward and hit the frog splash to boos (Young is the hometown hero).

6. "Mr Wrestling" Kevin Steen defeated Cedric Alexander with a package piledriver. Outlaw Inc. appeared and applauded.

7. The Young Bucks defeated Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly to win the ROH Tag Titles. Nick Jackson rolled O'Reilly up to counter the triangle choke and got the three count.

8. Adam Cole defeated Chris Hero in a Ringmaster's Challenge to retain the ROH Title. Cole won fall one with the Florida Key. Hero won by submission with the stretch plum in the second fall. The third fall was a 15-minute Iron Man. Hero booted Cole and covered for three to go up 1-0. Cole was disqualified after hitting Hero with the belt, giving Hero a 2-0 advantage. Cole covered and got the three count, leaving him trailing 1-2. Cole hit a neckbreaker across the knee and pinned Hero to even it up 2-2. After a trio of superkicks, Cole went up 3-2. Hero nailed Cole with an elbow on the outside of the ring. Back inside the ring he got the pin to even it up 3-3. The Iron Man match time limit ended. Nigel McGuinness declares sudden death, which Cole won with a backslide.

Opinionated View- Congrats to the Young Bucks on wining the belts. Briscoes vs Outlaw Inc that had to suck big time. The booking for main event makes zero sense.

ROH Title match set for Chicago

Ring of Honor has announced Adam Cole vs. Chris Hero in a Ringmaster Challenge match for the ROH Championship will headline the March 8 event in Chicago. Read the official announcement at ROHWrestling.com.

The first fall will be decided by pinfall. The second fall will be submission only. The final fall will be a 15-minute Iron Man match with overtime if necessary. ROH previously announced Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly vs. The Young Bucks for the ROH Tag Titles.

Opinionated View- The Ringmaster challenge is one of the stupidest stipulations matches out there. A 15 min iron man match what is the point.

Is TNA Interested in Chris Hero

Many people backstage want Dixie Carter to bring Chris Hero to TNA. There is currently no deal in place yet. 

Chris Hero briefly worked with TNA in 2003 but never appeared on any of the PPVs. He signed with WWE in February 2012 as Kassius Ohno. He was in developmental for over a year before getting released last November.

- The event in Pittsburgh last weekend drew a little over 1,200 fans.

- With Chris Hero pinning Adam Cole at the Pittsburgh event, Hero will now challenge Cole for the ROH Title at the February 21st ROH Anniversary show in Philadelphia, PA at the National Guard Armory.

- ROH runs on February 8th in San Antonio, Texas with ROH Tag Team Champions reDRagon (Kyle O'Reilly & Bobby Fish) vs. Adrenaline RUSH (ACH & Tadarius Thomas) set for the show.

Opinionated View- Well it's clear ROH still has a fan base in the North Eastern area. But for some reason they want to run any where but the North East most of the time.  The two tile matches sound really good 

More Detailed ROH Spoilers

Episode One Taping (airs on January 11)

1. Raymond Rowe beat Kongo by pinfall in the first round of the Top Prospect Tournament. A good opening match. The crowd wasn't super into it, but I remember seeing both in the past few months. Rowe was working on the Road to Greatness shows in September as I saw him in Birmingham. Kongo worked the dark match versus another top prospect in Corey Hollis at Supercard of Honor VII in NYC in April. Kongo is a big dude, but Rowe looks like a stud. 

After the match, Kongo was laid out in the ring, and out came Michael Elgin. Elgin picked up the large man in Kongo and power bombed him and cut a promo about he won't rest until he gets Adam Cole.

2. Corey Hollis pinned Mike Posey in the first round of the Top Prospect Tournament. Corey Hollis vs The Benchmark was supposed to happen but the Benchmark came out and forfeited due to a high ankle sprain. Hollis's tag team partner in Alabama Attitude, Mike Posey, challenged him to a match for the first round of the tournament. Solid match as those two guys have known each other for five years or so.

3. Jay Lethal pinned Caprice Coleman. A high paced, fast energy match which got the crowd excited. Lethal won with the Lethal Injection. Afterwards, Lethal gave a nice rub to Coleman saying that he'd be the first to tell him that Coleman has a bright future

4. Kevin Steen beat Chris Hero. Hero looks like he toned up a lot, as he looks really lean nowadays. He trimmed down his beard as well. They put on a fantastic match in which most of the crowd was split 50/50. After the win by Steen, Hero exited first, which let Steen get a standing ovation. On the way out, what looked like to be Cliff Compton grabbed Steen as he was walking out and just put him in a sleeper hold. They crowd was buzzing after this thinking it was a random fan. 

Episode Two 

1. Andrew Everett beat The Romantic in the first round of the Top Prospect Tournament. A few people in the crowd including my buddy who was with me mentioned Romantic Touch looked a lot like Rhett Titus under the mask. They put on an entertaining match and Everett advanced.

2. Hanson beat Cheeseburger in the first round of the Top Prospect Tournament. Cheeseburger was the most over wrestler in the tournament, but man was he undersized to Hanson (who I swear they called "Dixie" all night long). Hanson was billed at 250+ while Cheeseburger was billed at 125 lbs. Cheeseburger got limited offense in as this was a squash match.

3. Jimmy Jacobs and BJ Whitmer beat Mark Briscoe and Adam Page. Mark Briscoe and Adam Page were supposed to have a match but that was interrupted by "The Decade" (Strong, Whitmer, and Jacobs). After a few promos, it ended up being a tag team match with Page and Briscoe facing Jacobs and Whitmer (who I thought retired at Final Battle). Jacobs and Whitmer won.

Jay Briscoe came out and issued his open challenge to Adam Cole for the "Real World Title" that Briscoe claims he has. Adam Cole came out and after a promo said he would answer "next week."

4. Tommaso Ciampa pinned Silas Young to retain the ROH TV Title. Ciampa and Young were about to fight but Matt Taven (minus the Hoopla Hotties and Truth Martini) came out and said he wanted a rematch. Silas Young got in his face and Taven pushed him and they brawled. Lethal was at ringside for commentary and after a good match that Ciampa won, Lethal, Ciampa and Taven, who came back out, had a staredown for the belt.

Episode Three 

1. Raymond Rowe over Corey Hollis to advance in the semifinals of the Top Prospect Tournament. Both looked a bit sloppy in this match. It's probably due to being tired from previous matches, but both look like they have a bright future. Hollis is only 23 or 24 and has been wrestling for 5 years already and Rowe is booked to look like a stud. I think he will win the tournament after advancing to the Finals.

2. RD Evans beat Mike Sells. RD Evans came out with Veda Scott and faced what is reported as Mike Sells. Sells had "Sex Sells" on his tights so we all called him Sex Sells in the crowd and heckled him for it. RD Evans got the win via pinfall.

After the match, Veda Scott got on the microphone and issued an open challenge to anyone on the ROH roster to face RD Evans, who is 14-0 in Ring of Honor. 

3. RD Evans beat Michael Elgin by DQ in a special challenge match. Elgin came out and just decimated RD Evans from the start. Throwing him into barricade after barricade and just manhandling him all throughout ringside. After a buckle bomb and a power bomb by Elgin, it wasn't enough as he grabbed two chairs and did a power bomb on the chairs on Evans. As a result of that, Evans is 15-0 by winning via DQ. 

4. Matt Taven defeated Tadarius Thomas. Matt Taven, once again without the hotties or Truth, came out to face Tadarius Thomas. Taven even abided by the Code of Honor. Shocking face turn as he isn't as fun or interesting without the Hotties or Truth. Taven won an entertaining match with Thomas. 

5. Jay Briscoe beat Bobby Fish. Briscoe came out and wanted an answer from Cole from the previous week's open challenge. Instead of Cole answering, Bobby Fish came out and cut a promo which lead to a match. After a solid 15 minute match and a run in by Adam Cole, Jay Briscoe hit his Jay Driller on Fish to win the match. 

After this match, they announced a return for Best in the World on June 21. While in line waiting for my ticket, which they had on sale there, I asked the ticket guys if they were happy with the turnout. They didn't give an attendance figure but said this was the "Best show they've ever had coming into a new city for the first time." The show was practically sold out, even in the general admission. I got my front row seat for Best in the World as well. There also was about a 10-15 minute intermission after the announcement.

Episode Four

1. Hansen pinned Andrew Everett in the semifinals of the Top Prospect Tournament. A fun match that the crowd really was into after feeling rejuvenated from the intermission. Everett is a high flyer who really can work his spots, and Hanson or "Dixie" as I swear Bobby Cruise was calling him, showed an insane amount of strength as he caught Everett off a moonsault off the second rope to the floor. Hanson got the win to set up a match with Raymond Rowe in Pittsburgh.

2. Mike Bennett (w/Maria) beat Cedric Alexander. A grueling and high paced match. Bennett and Maria came out and talked trash before the match, insulting most Nashvillians. Bennett looks like a major star in the making. He really knows how to get in people's head and to have heat on him. At one point, he threw Alexander repeatedly into the barrier right in my corner where I was sitting, and got into the face of a fan. The fan had been annoying all night, even to other fans around us, and whimpered away when Bennett asked him to do something. Bennett got the win using a former boyfriend of Maria's finishing maneuver, the Anaconda Vice. This got major heat on Bennett as the crowd moaned and groaned.

3. A.J. Styles defeated Roderick Strong. AJ got a hero's welcome. Streamers flew in more than they did throughout the night for Styles' return to RoH. Styles and Strong put on a really good match that was extremely stiff. Lots of chops, kicks and punches. About 3/4 of the way through the match. AJ looked like he was going for his springboard 450 splash but lost his footing on the ropes and landed very awkwardly. He was noticeably in pain, as he immediately grabbed his knee and limping noticeably afterwards. 

They went for the finish and after a Sick Kick by Strong, AJ put Strong in the hold for the Styles Clash. Strong tucked his head down after looking at the video posted on Prowrestling.net instead of pulling it back so he could land on his chest. He landed on his neck very awkwardly and the crowd was horrified and nervous. AJ pinned him for the win, and after the match, it looked like Strong said "I can't feel my arm" as he was holding his left arm. However, the rest of the The Decade ran in and beat down on AJ Styles which Strong moved out of the way on his own. That got a sigh of relief out of the crowd. The rest of the ROH locker room made the save and Lethal cut a promo thanking Nashville, and thanking AJ Styles for "Coming Home."

Opinionated View- Steen vs Hero and Ciampa vs Young should be good match but Piper give me a fucking break. As great as Piper was at one time he's every bit as bad now.
