Back into the Milestone Series for ROH we go. And this is the weakest Milestone as far as I'm concerned as it's Samoa Joe and Bryan Danielson teaming up to face Pro Wrestling NOAH stars KENTA and Naomichi Marufuji. Danielson and Joe had teamed in the past in ROH and it wasn't the debut for KENTA Marufuji since they had worked Final Battle and stars from Japan doing an ROH show was nothing new as well. I get they didn't want to break the series but I'm just point out my feelings. Ok on the commentary Dave claims its to celebrate a year of running show in Manhattan but is that really a big milestone? One things I pointed out in my last was they set up for a post show fight with Homicide and Colt Cabana never happened. Well according to this DVD I was wrong they say it happened it was just never filmed. Now I had forgotten they had ever said that. However my points in that review still stand why set up for something we are never going to see? The use it to explain why Homicide and Colt aren't on this show but you know what just have Dave Prazak or Lenny Leonard says. "ROH officials decided not to book either man given how out of control they have become in this feud…"
After the special title card we get Gabe Sapolsky narrating over a still photo of the attack on BJ Whitmer from the last show. Gabe runs down the events and claim the Milestone of running the ECW Arena was runnier. He explains the footage had been cut from last DVD but they were adding the footage to his event. This is the kind of thing you put on TV show but not a DVD because you just wondering why isn't this on the DVD it took place at. The footage shows Zanding running down ROH and kicking the tied up BJ. He also claims ROH went an hour over there run time. Zanding also claims this is just the start. We get backstage to see Bobby Dempsey backing down someone from CZW what the fuck? We get back to someone from CZW jumping the rail and the CZW pulling down the ROH logos from the guard rails and than back to Dempsey. Why are the showing Dempsey he was a jobber at this point I could get the Briscoes or Aries who were pushed guys not Dempsey it's be like WWE focusing on Zack Ryder if TNA invaded. (And I like Ryder but he is a jobber) back in the ring Zanding hits a power bomb on BJ after he is freed. Some guys says "welcome to the ass rapping of ROH." And back to Dempsey and some of the ROH students again why. The footage closes on the ring canvas the ROH logo spray pained over and broken BJ Whitmer trying to stand an a shot of BJ's back spray pained with stables in it. Gabe than explains that BJ will miss this show due injures. Also he says ROH is willing wants its revenge so they are allowing any CZW star to show and face ROH in match. They tried to sell the footage as shocking and violent but it was tame compared to the stuff on Arena Warfare. I do like BJ missing the show to sell the beat down. But why would ROH need to challenge CZW to show since CZW had been attacking on every show since Hell Freezes Over?
Jimmy Rave with Prince Nana vs Pelle Priemeau- Pelle was out of the ROH wrestling school and was always the undersized face. Pretty much if he wasn't facing someone from the ROH wrestling school he was doomed. Big time toilet paper treatment for Rave. Rave with a snap mare and than he just pound on Pelle. Big running forearm in the corner by Rave. Springboard cross body by Pelle gets two but than a big spear and the Greetings From Ghana for the win by Rave. This was a pure squash all about giving Rave a win after his match Danielson.
Nana gets on the microphone and again announces Rave as the winner. Nana declares Rave deserves to the champion and says no body can stop him he than insults Taimak. Now Taimak was the star of the movie The Last Dragon where he played Bruce Leroy. ROH decides to just call him Bruce Leroy witch is just stupid like when WWE claimed Raw was noted by the Three Stooges even though everyone new it was three actors. Nana challenges Taimak to get in the ring with Rave. Jimmy Yang (who had been using the theme from the Last Dragon as his theme as was friends with Taimark) comes out and we got a match. Decent segment but I only Taimark because I'm a big martial arts fan I'm sure there a number of people wondering "What is the Last Dragon? And who is that guy?"
Jimmy Rave with Prince Nana vs Jimmy Yang- Rave jumps Yang. Step up kick by Yang. Good super kick by Yang. Leg Lariat by Yang. Nana with the distraction and Rave send Yang to the floor. In the ring with a Rave Hangman's Neckbreaker. Yang with a good looking suplex. Rave moves on a shoulder tackle and Yang meets the ring post. Yang blocks the superplex. Spin kick by Yang knocks Nana off the apron. Rave with a spear after ducking a kick by Yang. Running knee strike by Rave. Rave complains to the referee witch allow Yang to get a crucifix for the win. Blah match and what is the finish you have Rave with a strong win and than he jobs to Yang?
Post mach Nana and Rave attack Yang. Taimak takes off his shirt and than decides he might want to go help his friend. Back kick to Nana Rave ducks a kick and than bails out. Yang gets a microphone and than does the who is the master bit from the movie I think he wants the to say LeRoy but the fans that know the movie go "Shogun." I guess the guy had to be friends with Yang because its really the only time I can remember ROH doing anything with a celeb outside of Johnny Fairplay once.
Four Corner Survival Mercedes Martinez vs Allison Danger vs Daizee Haze vs Lacey- This was all about promoting SHIMMER witch all four girls worked for. Also Danger and Dave Prazak ran. Have at this time was a member of the Embassy but didn't have Nana with her really he turn was just so The Embassy could win the match that gave them they advantage in Steel Cage Warfare over Gen Next. Lacey and Haze start us off. Haze with a takedown and works the arm. Haze with a modified Oklahoma Roll gets two. Lacey with takedown tires for a arm bar but Haze gets the headlock. Lacey reverses a rolls up and gets two. Lacey slaps Martinez witch counts as a tag. Haze tags Danger. Greco Roman Knuckle lock and they break when neither gets its advantage. Big forearm exchange and than chops. Shoulder tackle by Martinez. Danger tires the tackle but Martinez holds he ground. Danger acts like she is going for it again but instead does a single leg into a butterfly hold. Haze maces the save and than Lacey in with a spear and kicks Martinez goes after Lacey and makes contact which counts as a tag. Lacey goes for a pin on Danger who kicks at two. Double knees to the back by Lacey. Lacey tags Haze who hits a couple of seated dropkicks. Tag back to Lacey who comes in putting the boots to Danger. Beautiful looking spin kick by Lacey. Martinez makes the save on the cover. Tag back to Haze. Irish whip reversed and Haze goes throat first onto bottom rope followed by a curb kick by Danger. Tag to Lacey and Martinez. Good looking suplex by Martinez who rolls though and than a big German suplex followed by a deviating spine buster on Haze. Danger pulls Lacey to the outside. Facebuster by Haze puts down Martinez. Haze climbs the top rope and gets shoved off by Martinez and she lands on Lacey and Danger. On the outside Danger swing Haze head first into the guar rail. Lung blower by Lacey on Martinez but Dangers makes the save. Fishmen's buster by Martinez but Danger had made the tag. Daze in with dropkick that misses. Oklahoma Roll by Danger on Lacey for the win. Very good match. All four women were really talented and it's to bad they never got more of a chance else where. If you want to see good women's wrestling check out SHIMMER and SHINE.
Jason Blade and Kid Mikaze made there entrance. They were a team ROH had on roster for a while picking up more losses than they did win. However with the lights down for the entrance this allows Chris Hero and Necro Butcher to make there entrance and get to the ring first. Hero asked who in there right mind would give Chris Hero and the Necro Butcher a free pass. Hero accepted the open contacts Blade and Mikaze had out and declared "Necro Kill!" Nerco went after Blade while Hero went after Mikaze. Hero held kid in a searches of stretched while Butcher picked Blade and a chair up and slammed him onto the floor. Back in the ring Hero hit some hard cross faces on Mikaze and than lock in a front fact lock choking the young man out. Bobby Cruise was hear announcing them as the winner but you can't count this as a match. Of course "wining " was enough for Butcher and he kept beating up Blade. Hero than called Adam Pearce who he said had been running his mouth to long. Perace in jeans and a t-shirt instead of his usual singlet jumped Hero form behind hand took him out.
Necro Butcher and Chris Hero vs Adam Pearce- The ref called for the bell so this time I will count it as a match. Hero was still down on the outside as Butcher and Pearce battled. Butcher tossed Pearce to the outside and than into the stands. Butcher started picking up chairs and hit Pearce with them. Pearce fired back with punches and than chair shots. Pearce pulled of his belt and used it to choke Necro. Back at ringside Butcher hit some shots and a head but and than some awful looking but clearly stiff kicks. Pearce picked Butcher up and rammed him into the guard rail and than the ring post and finally through a table. Hero recovered and tossed Pearce into the guard rail. Hero and Pearce into the ring where Hero kicked Pearce in the balls and the referee finally tossed the match out. All this match showed me is why Nercro Butcher does not belong calling himself a wrester the guy can't wrestle. I can enjoy a Hero or a Pearce hardcore match because the guys can wrestle a regular match they sell they make there moves look good and don't have to kill someone. Butcher can't the guy is more a side show freak able to get beat up a lot so he never took time to learn how to wrestle.
Post match the CZW invaders kept attacking. Butcher hits Pearce with a pice of the broken table. Hero got a microphone back to taunt people he wasn't done and than called out Claudio Castagnoli to come out finish the job. For those that maybe do't know Claudio better known now as Ceasrso was trained by Chris Hero (although he been trained else first) at the CHIKARA Wrestler Factory with Mike Quackenbush. In companies like CZW and CHIKARA they were the hated Kings of Wrestling but in ROH Claudio was face. Now to ROH's credit they did not go old school "Deny Deny Deny" on Claudio since they knew there fans already were well aware of Claudio team with Hero hell it was a big part of speculation as the CZW feud began. But they have never come out and said it either instead they let fans speculate. Claudio made his entrance half dressed and looking very confused. Hero and Butcher kept working over Pearce waiting for Double C to join in but Claudio nailed Butcher and than Hero. Claudio got on the microphone and declared "Fuck CZW… Your looking the next Ring of Honor Pure Champion." Pearce smoke Claudio's hand and started an ROH chant and even held the ropes for Claudio. Decent segment. I was actually pretty surprised how easily Pearce was accepted as one of the ROH defenders given he had only been with ROH a few months at this point. Again they had to addressed the Kings of Wrestling stuff with Claudio and trust me they story isn't done yet.
Alex Shelley with Prince Nana and Daizee Haze vs Christopher Daniels with Alison Danger- Haze had joined the Embassy back during the Gen Next Feud and for the most part she wasn't used hell this might have been her first appearance with them since joining. Shelly started off by spitting water in Daniels face. Daniels goes for a leap frog but Shelley sees it and slaps the Fallen Angel. Shelley bails out. Shelley back in with a head lock Daniels gets free and another Shelley slap and bail out. Daniels had enough and followed him out giving chase. Nana on the apron distracting Daniels allowing Shelly to take over. Wrist lock by Shelley and starts slapping Daniels. Daniels flips free and slaps Shelley who bias out again. Shelley off the top rope but gets caught by an atomic drop. Daniels uses the arm drag into an arm bar. Moe working of the arm by Daniels even hitting a elbow drop before going back to the arm bar. Exchange on the waist lock until Shelley with a boot a cutter and kick to the back. Shelley with the neck breaker and than into a modified stretch plum. Daniels fights free. Great looking bull down by Shelley and a cocky cover gets two Spine buster and a lionsault by Shelley gets two. Leonard puts out Shelley's covers a way to lazy. Shelley mocks some of Daniels posses. Good looking Northern Suplex by Shelley. Shelley goes for a sling shot leg drop but Daniels side steps it and than a step up enziguri. Chin breaker by Daniels and a series of fore arms and clothesline before a tilt a while backbreaker and the STO for two. Up and over in the corner by Daniels but Shelley nails a super kick. Blue thunder bomb by Daniels but the can't follow up. Shelley moves out of the way on the BME. Body slam by Daniels and goes for Arabian Press only for Shelley to get the knees up. Daniels rolls through on a back slide and than hits the Angels Wings for the win. Very good match you two of the very best in ROH gong at it here. Although I think Shelley needed the win more hell I don't know I have reviewed an ROH show yet where he got the win.
ROH Pure Championship Nigel McGuinness © vs Claudio Castagnoli- Claudio had already gotten a number of shots at Nigel's title but each time the champions used some heel means to retain the belt. This was also billed as his final shot. Nigel interrupted the referees attempt to explain the pure rules. Nigel started sucking up the the referee so Claudio nailed him with an upper cut to the chest. Nigel goes for the jawbreaker but Claudio hits a dropkick. Match on the outside Nigel whips Claudio into the guard rail. Running uppercut forearm by Nigel. Basement drop kick by Claudio than he ties up Nigel's legs Claudio gets Nigel in some kind of hold right by the ropes and attempts to get him to use the first of his three rope breaks. Nigel fights free instead. Horse collar and trapping the head by Claudio. Nigel uses his first rope break. Kick to the back and clubbing shot to the chest gets two. Arm and hammer lock drop by Nigel gets two. Modified cobra clutch by Nigel. Nigel tosses Claudio over using the arm. Match ender face buster by Claudio but he can't follow up. Nigel goes to the outside and Claudio the twisting body press what an amazing move by the big man. Stuff like that is why I used to say Claudio as big as Tomko moves like AJ. Both men on the floor as the referee counts. Slingshot elbow by Claudio gets two. Nigel hands Claudio up in the corner. Big running upper cut by Nigel. Tower of London by Nigel but Claudio kicks at two. Claudio fights free of a second tower of london. Alpa a Marie Water Slide by Claudio gets two. Upper cut exchange. Another Alpha Marie Water Slide by Claudio but Nigel kicks out again. Claudio goes to the rope Nigel cuts him off another tower of london but Claudio uses his first rope break. Claudio with a backslide gets two. Jawbreaker Lariat by Nigel for the win. Kind of an anti climatic win. The jaw breaker is a cool move but at this time it wasn't Nigel's finisher. This is the kind of match I almost think needs something real special to close it out. But still a very good match. Nigel was about to start his feud with Danielson and Claudio well he had a part to play in the CZW war.
We go to black screen but I hear Gary Michael Capettia. Are you freaking kidding me I know ROH has an issue with guys going into dark sports but this is a backstage segment they didn't' think to test film first. Its one thing for some small time indy company to have this but ROH was the number three company in the US at this point your telling me no one thought to say "Light is crap lets find a better place." Gary says he is waiting for Nigel but first throws it to a video by Jimmy Jacobs. Jimmy's video is a music video for his song Ballad of Lacey. Yeah this was the latest in the Jimmy loves Lacey stuff. We see Jimmy in his bed with a picture of Lacey a candle and wearing only his underwear and him sniffing one of her dresses. and Jimmy in the shower. Gee thanks I needed that I need to think about Jimmy all alone in his house on the computer looking at Lacey's photos. Ok it's not that bad a song and I do have to say Jimmy needed a gimmick change. See his gimmick at this time was that a little guy that thought he was big would try to go over the top rope would go "HUSS HUSS HUSS." Now it was funny and Jimmy is a talented guy but there is only so long that can last. But sadly he's still pretty much doing this Emo Heel gimmick today all these later he has made changes at times but the basics are still there. Another problem and you should know this if you read by Respect is Earned review you know the Jimmy loves Lacey stuff was still going on into 2007. And by that point the story wasn't entertaining it was just dragging on.
Back to the dark hall and still this BS. Find someone place with light I should not have to crank the brightness all the way up on my TV or computer to barely make out a segment. GMC claims he is with Nigel and Nigel is heard. Nigel says he is the best pure wrestler and the real world's champion. Nigel says he is going back to Japan where he keep making the pure title the real world's championship. He says no one not even Dragon can change that. Great promo to set up the oncoming Danielson vs McGunniess feud to bad ROH pulled this bull shit and did the interview in a dark room. Hell next time save money and just an audio interview.
Ricky Reyes with Julius Smokes vs Austin Aries- Reyes had bullied the ROH students and Aries was head trainer at the ROH wrestling school. These two had wrested back at heel freezes over with Austin getting a pin but Reyes had locked him in the dragon sleeper and refused to let go. By this point any hope of a full blown Generation Next vs Rottweilers feud was dead with Romero and Low Ki out of ROH but they were still setting up for tag title match between the two factions. Front face lock by Reyes but Aries fights to wrist lock. Aries sends Reyes to the floor. Shoulder tackle by Aries. Aries drops down by Reyes sees it and goes for the front face locks. Aries frees himself and a japanese arm drag. Head scissors by Reyes who than blocks the head stand escape by Aries. Aries reverse the head scissors into one of his one. Some more playing with the head stand escape Aires finally hits the dropkick part. Smokes being an idiots just screams out random things. Side slam by Aries gets two. Aries with a series of power slams on of Reyes trademark moves that he had hit on many an ROH student. Aries with knee drop and than he "rewinds" to do it again in slow mo. Smokes still yelling out random annoying shit. Its not even getting heel heat since I don't know if anyone can understand him. Spin kick by Reyes. Belly to back suplex by Reyes. Aries blocks the saito suplex. Running lariat by Aries. Reyes rolls to the outside. Big Suicide Dive by Aries through the bottom and second rope. Twisting body press back into the ring gets two for Aries. Lionsault and it's picture perfect by Aries. Brain buster blocked and the Saito Suplex by Reyes gets two. Aries catches a kicks a does a knee breaker than a modified belly to back suplex before the running drop kick into the corner. Brain buster counted into the dragon but Aries counters into the Finlay Roll. 450 misses. Reyes arm drags Aries into the corner. Dragon Sleeper by Reyes. Aries gets the ropes finally the referee calls for the bell since Reyes won't break. Decent match nothing to spectacular but I like the finish since it plays into the story of Aries not being able to break the dragon sleeper. Roderick Strong and Jack Evans run out to save Aries and than the Briscoes run out jump starting out next match
Roderick Strong and Jack Evans vs The Briscoe Brothers Jay and Mark- Mark with an awful looking dive over the top rope right at the start. Now only does he nearly land on his head but he drives Strong back awkwardly. Evans with a twisting kick off the ropes on Jay. So we are rushing right into the big spots with zero build and I hate that. Sometimes it works but not here. For all my issues with Strong I can say the guy is smart enough to build up to his big moves. Mark works over Evans quick tag back to Jay. Jay with a sloppy one arm spine buster. Tag back to Mark. Evans ducks a clotheslines. The Brother colloid allowing Evans to tag in Strong. Strong launches Evans like a lawn dart at the Briscoes. Double team by Gen Next until Jay pulls Strong out. The Briscoes and Strong fight on the floor. Evans springs to the top and slips but does a back flip to try and look cool beat Sabu just falling off. Spring board front flip dive by Evans but it looks as bad as a Briscoe move. Not helping Jay and Mark bail out so Strong winds up being the one to catch Evans alone. Back in the ring cart wheel kick on Mark Briscoe and a big knee drop. Tag to Strong. Mark with a front face lock tag to Jay . Drop kick and a snap suplex gets two. Mark with a move Lenny claims is a senton but It looks more like he was going for twisting splash and messed it up. Belly to back neck breaker combo by Strong and Evans. Mark makes the save. Tag to Evans. Spin kick by Evans. Falcon arrow by Evans. Tag to Strong. Strong picks Evans up and slams him again on Jay than a staining moonsault by strong flowed by a running twisting splash by Evans for two. Butterfly suplex by Strong. Neck breaker by Jay tag to Mark. Mark with awful looking forearms than a gut wrench a knee clearly to the ground that Strong sells. Back breaker by Strong tag to Evans. Spring kick to the back of the head. Standing 450 by Evans. Mark with a face plant on Evans and he actually does drive Jack's face into the ground. Ankle lock but Strong pulls his partner to the ropes Mark tries to go for a figure four but can't do it right instant he just kind of places his legs on Evans'. Tag to Jay who ones in working over the knee of Evans. Strong distracts the referee and the Briscoes double team. Enqizuire by Evans and Mark sells it like a he's drunk. Tag back to Jay who I guess can do the figure four. Strong again distracts the referee allows Mark to help with the leverage for his brother. The referee finally sees it and break the hold. Moonsault press by Evans but Jay charges in winds up getting kneed in the head. Your not making the move cooler Jay your not helping Evans either. Tag to Strong sires of chops and back body drops. Tiger driver by Strong on Mark gets two. Strong goes to power power bomb Evans onto Mark. Jay with a roll up on Strong and poor Evans again smacks the mat face first get your hands up man. Jay goes for the Jay Driller atomic drop and big boot by Strong. Assisted moonsault by Strong and Evans. Mark breaks it up. Double DDT by Evans plants both Briscoes Brothers. Evans to the top. Strong up and Superplexs Evans onto Jay. Strong goes to dive and I think it was supposed to be "tries to take out" Mark and Mark was supposed to side step but Mark never got into position and Strong just dove off. Mark back in with a fishermen's' buster that gets two. Spring board doomsdays by the Briscoes but Strong with the save. Gut buster then a half nelson back breaker. Ode to the bulldogs and phoenix splash by Strong and Evans gets the win. What a fucking mess! Numerous missed or sloppy spots. And it went to long and when you have four people in the match and Strong is by far the best one don't give it 20 mins.
We go to promo by Colt Cabana. Cabana talks about the drain incident as we see video off it. Cabana says it flashes in his head even when he just goes to get something to eat. and how life can just stop. As Colt talks about how death is an option we see footage of various moments in the feud. Cabana talks about the fear and he can run away from the fear or he can get in the ring and battle, wrestle, and fight and conquer the fear. Colt talks about the how the fear has taken over his life and how it needs to end and it will end in the midwest. This promos starts off very strong and ends strong but it goes on to long so the middle secant is just Colt rambling on and on.

Marufuji challenge Danielson for the ROH world title and KENTA had defended his GHC Jr. Heavyweight title against Low Ki. KENTA and Marufuji had teamed many times in the past. Joe and Dragon had as well at leased once in ROH. Joe refuses to shake hands before the match. For a long time ROH played with this idea that Joe had an issue with NOAH sadly they never really got to play it out when Gabe finally pulled the trigger on the feud TNA pulled Joe from ROH. (And no TNA was not wrong to do that but that's another story) Prazak explains that KENTA is a protégée of Kenta Kobahsi who Joe had faced in the past. Danielson and Marufuji start us off. And we got some amazing moves. We also got a great deal of storyline here. This match was meant to set up a few things Joe vs NOAH, KENTA vs Danielson and Joe vs Danielson and it did all of this in little ways. If your a fans of any of these four men seek this one out. Post match KENTA and Marufuji celebrate while Joe checks on Danielson who is still down selling the go to sleep. Joe offers his hand to Marufuji but gets in the face of KENTA and again no hand shake. Danielson is still down. Joe sees KENTA has gotten a hold of the ROH world title and shoves him while taking back the belt. Danielson finally starts to get back up. Joe gets a microphone of his own and tells KENTA he didn't beat Danielson in a singles match and he will never beat him (Joe) in singles. KETNA just tells Joe he can't understand English. I think that was meant to be a joke. Danielson offers his hand to both. NOAH stars and tell KENTA he has his eyes on him.
We than go to a promo by Lance Storm. Storm tells us Bryan Danielson has a open contract and the could get him out of retirement Yeah that its and it's stuff we already know. Hell everyone knew you were coming in to face Danielson after Steel Cage Warfare. Prince Nana is backstage with Shelley and Rave. Nana rants about Bruce Leroy. Shelley confronts canceling his plan ticket for 2/11. The two men start to fight over who lost to Danielson worse. Nana demands the camera cuts and that is what we close on.
The main event for Best in the World lives up to its hype as we get a great main event with four of the very best in the world at this time. This isn't a lot of storyline on this show instead its more about putting on on star ratings earning matches. There is nothing to awful on here out side of Gen Next vs the Briscoes. The stuff with Taimak at the start is just strange. When WWE or TNA uses a celeb its about promoting there show. Hell say what you Johnny Fairplays ROH appearance but that was covered by VH1 for a show on reality stars. I don't even know if Karate Mags were still folioing Taimak at this time. This show has some issues but its is a fun one to check out.
