Main Event For 8/22 WWE NXT Takeover

Courtesy of WWE.com:
NXT Champion Finn Bálor vs. Kevin Owens
A huge main event has been confirmed for NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, as newly crowned NXT Champion Finn Bálor will defend his title against former champion Kevin Owens at the Barclays Center on Saturday, Aug. 22 as part of a special that will be broadcast live on the award-winning WWE Network.
The rematch was announced by NXT General Manager William Regal at San Diego Comic-Con International, where both Bálor and Owens took part in a packed panel presented by Mattel, featuring the unveiling of both Superstars' first WWE action figures.
The announcement comes hot on the heels of Bálor's stunning championship victory in Tokyo. Just days after becoming the first competitor to pin Owens inside an NXT ring, Bálor returned to Japan, the country where he first made a name for himself as a competitor, donning his demonic war paint as he charged into battle against the brutish Owens. While Owens sought to slow down his otherworldly opposition, Bálor withstood Owens' onslaught and crushed him with the Coup de Grace to become the NXT Champion.
Since the Tokyo throwdown, Owens has turned his attention to capturing John Cena's United States Championship, but don't think for a moment that the bruiser won't relish the opportunity to reclaim the title that propelled him to Superstardom and embarrass Bálor in the process.
Will Finn Bálor prove that his victory in Tokyo wasn't a fluke, or will Owens send The Demon back to the netherworlds and reassert his dominance over NXT? Find out at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn on Saturday, Aug. 22! Tickets will be available for this monumental event starting Saturday, July 18 at 12 p.m. ET. If you can't make it to Brooklyn, don't worry, as the event will be broadcast live on the award-winning WWE Network!

Kevin Owens Wasn’t WWE’s First Choice For Main Roster Call-Up?

Kevin Owens may not have been WWE’s first choice to be the next call-up from NXT. WWE originally planned on bringing Sami Zayn up after his NXT Takeover match with Owens, but Zayn suffered an injury and plans changed.
Owens signed a new main roster contract and will work all RAW shows in the future. He will also keep working in NXT until he loses the NXT title and moves to the main roster full time.
Meanwhile, WWE also has “big plans” for Finn Balor on the main roster whenever they decide to call him up.

Opinionated View- It seemed like they had plans for Zayn based on how much they gave him in that match with Cena. But I will give the WWE credit they picked a good plan B in Owens. Hopefually when Zayn is backed he get called up and a good push as well. And hopefully Balor gets a good push as well.

Update On When Finn Balor Will Join The Main Roster

There was talk around the time of Wrestlemania 31 of Neville and Finn Balor getting called up to the main roster from NXT. Neville made his main roster debut two weeks ago on the night after Wrestlemania. There is still talk in WWE that Balor will go to the main roster sooner rather than later. He has already been working main roster WWE shows as part of the European tour. He will also be backstage at RAW tonight

WWE is planning to give Kevin Owens a long run as the NXT champion, so several people believe that Balor will get called up without ever getting a run with the NXT title.

Opinionated View- Balor is a great talent. As always I have my concerns about how the main roster will book him hell just look at The Ascension. Him never winning the NXT can been as disappointing but its not that big a deal. While Rollins held so did Bo Dallas and Big E.

NXT News: Vince McMahon Impressed With Charlotte, Reason Hideo Itami Won, More

As previously reported, Vince McMahon was in attendance for the NXT event this past Friday in San Jose, California. He was said to be very impressed with the work of Charlotte and Sasha Banks. There was talk of Charlotte going to the main roster during Wrestlemania week and now that’s increased after McMahon saw her work. He’s also requested that she be featured more in the WWE’s Tapout commercials.

– Hideo Itami won the NXT tournament for a spot in the Andre the Giant Battle Royal, but it was a last minute decision. The original plan was for Finn Balor or Adrian Neville to go over. When the match was moved to the pre-show, the decision was changed to Itami. He was selected to tie him into Tatsumi Fujinami going into the WWE Hall of Fame, as there were a lot of Japanese media in town covering Fujinami.

– The decision to bring Neville to the main roster has been in the works for a while now.

– CJ Parker decided to leave NXT because he felt he had been in development long enough. He has been there for almost four years. He wants to go out on the independents and make a name for himself. He also wants to wrestle internationally and improve his skills. He reportedly didn’t want to be seen as a talent who spent too much time in developmental and never moved on.

- WWE has reportedly had discussions of Hideo Itami and Finn Balor having a run as NXT tag team champions. The two wrestlers would later split off for singles runs in WWE NXT.

Update On Which NXT Stars Will Be Called Up Next

Hideo Itami (KENTA) and Finn Balor (Prince Devitt) are expected to be the next two NXT talents to be called up before anyone else.
According to The Wrestling Observer, Itami wants to be part of the NXT system while he adapts to the WWE in-ring style and improves his English. Balor, however, “wasn’t brought in to spend (two or) three years” in developmental. He will have a run in NXT due to the way WWE develops talent, but he could be brought to RAW “before 90% or 95% of the talent in NXT that’s there now will be up.”

Opinionated View- Well Balor and Itami don't belong in NXT. The problem is WWE get great talent and goes "Now we have to teach them our way." Instead of letting that talent do the moves and style that made them pick up a following or would let them stand out from the others guys on the roster.
