Lucha Underground Broadcast Team Issues

There have reportedly been some issues with the Lucha Underground broadcast team. Vampiro is said to have become a point of frustration with many in the promotion.

Sources have noted that Matt Striker will often feed Vampiro a line about the style or history of Lucha Libre, which Vampiro will quickly dismiss or sound disinterested with. Vampiro has also been criticized for not knowing some basic Lucha moves, as well as for confusing the babyfaces and heels. It's also apparent that Vampiro's audio track is often censored and requires extensive mixing in post production. A source indicated that Vampiro routinely uses foul language, which has caused the production team to spend hours adjusting the commentary for the 60 minute weekly series.

There are some in the company that feel as if Matt Striker's efforts are being compromised by Vampiro. It remains to be seen if the company will search for a replacement. Jim Ross was recently rumored to be in talks with the promotion, however he told me a couple of weeks ago that he hadn't had any talks with the organization.

"I haven't had any conversations with Lucha Underground," Ross told WrestlingINC.com. "I have yet to talk to any of them. The last person I talked to from Lucha Underground was Matt Striker at Wrestle Kingdom 9. I have not had one phone call, text, fax, whatever from Lucha Underground. Will those take conversations take place? I have no idea, I have a manager who handles that."
While JR admitted that he hasn't spoken with Lucha Underground, he didn't close the door to working for them.

"Maybe they [Lucha Underground] liked my work at Wrestle Kingdom, maybe they know I'm not contracted to anybody, maybe I'm a candidate for something, I don't have any idea. It would take a very special engagement for me to re-engage a weekly TV show. I have so many projects that I love to do. I'm trying to finish an autobiography, which is an incredible undertaking. I have 70,000 words on this book already... I'm at the age where I enjoy working a part-time schedule. Never say never, but it would have to be an extraordinary situation."

Opinionated View- Vampiro is awful in that "I don't give a fuck. I'm just here to get a paycheck." But Ross is awful in a way to old to locked into the style he's had for years way. The best thing would just be to have Striker do commentary alone or hell hope TNA lets Tenay go.

Update on 1/4 New Japan Show/Global Force PPV

On Jim Ross's podcast earlier today with Global Force Wrestling founder Jeff Jarrett on PodcastOne.com, Jarrett confirmed earlier reports that former WWE & current Lucha Underground commentator Matt Striker will join WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross on commentary for the New Japan Wrestlekingdom 9 PPV on January 4 at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan.

Toru Yano and 3 mystery partners vs. Lance Archer, Davey Boy Smith Jr., Takashi Iizuka and Shelton Benjamin has been added to the New Japan Wrestlekingdom 9 PPV on January 4 at the Tokyo Dome in Tokyo, Japan. Originally, the match was slated to be Yano and a mystery partner against 2 members of Suzuki-Gun, before being changed earlier this week to the 8-Man Tag.

Jim Ross’ Wrestle Kingdom Partner Reportedly Set

WrestleZone reports that according to a source, Matt Striker has come to an agreement to call the NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 9 show in January alongside Jim Ross. The site says that Striker came to terms with Jeff Jarrett on the deal and will fulfill the analyst role.

It’s important to note that this is not yet confirmed and still stands as a rumor for now. Striker and Ross have worked together at the commentator booth before of course, during both men’s days in the WWE.

Opinionated View- Well Jarrett you just should have hired Striker to start he's better than JR these days.

Talent Update for Lucha Underground

- Former WWE performer Matt Striker and current SHINE champion Ivelisse Velez have officially signed on for the Lucha Underground project. Striker has already pulled out of independent appearances that conflict with Lucha Underground tapings.

- Lucha Underground offered former ROH/WWE/TNA competitor Brian Kendrick a deal, but he turned them down.

- Lucha Underground has two more TV tapings this weekend in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles.

Lucha Underground News: Matt Striker Signs On, More Names Likely

- Matt Striker has signed on with Lucha Underground. Striker will be the lead announcer alongside Vampiro for the show. John Hennigan and Chavo Guerrero have either signed or are expected to sign as well.

- Ricochet is set to be one of the top stars in the promotion. He has a deal with DG USA, so it would appear that they have worked out a non-exclusive deal.

- All contracted talent will have new characters (and thus names) for the show, so they won't be using the same gimmicks they've used in other promotions.

- Lucha Underground producers have been telling talent to stay quiet about the show. They are said to be upset with some of the contract details that were released and want all hype focused on the show's October 8th debut on El Rey.

Opinionated View- Well Striker is a great announcer so he he will really add to the product. This sounds like they have backed off some of the issues with the contracts if more guys are signing.

Ex-WWE Star Matt Striker Locks Up Role in 'Star Trek' Flick

Six months after leaving the WWE, former wrestler/announcer Matt Striker has resurfaced ... as a ROMULAN COMMANDER -- as in, the guy got himself a role in the new "Star Trek" project.

TMZ Sports has learned ... ever since he parted ways with the WWE back in June, Striker's been pursuing a career as an actor -- and recently auditioned for a part in the upcoming TV movie, "Star Trek Equinox: The Night of Time."

We spoke with Matt ... who tells us 13 years of pro-wrestling was great practice, saying "I did some acting as a child, movies like 'Wise Guys' etc. but really my time with the WWE has prepared me greatly for this next stage of my life."

Veteran actor John Savage -- who's starring in the flick -- says Striker was "handpicked" for the part ... telling us "when Matt was presented for audition, we thought we had our guy -- after he read, we knew it."

Savage says Striker's work in the ring was definitely a factor when it came to casting him for the role.

Must not have seen him getting his ass kicked by Kane ...

Matt Striker Joins Championship Wrestling from Hollywood Announcing Team

Matt Striker has joined the announcing team for Championship Wrestling from Hollywood. The promotion revealed the news in a press release, noting that Striker will debut with the promotion's August 11th TV taping which begins their fourth season.

Also set for the taping are Scorpio Sky with Christian Cole & Duke, PPRay ("Pretty" Peter Avalon & Ray Rosas), Joey Ryan, Othello, Ryan Taylor, The Hobo, Eric Watts, Mikey O'Shea, James Morgan with Stu Stone, 400LB Terex and more.

CWFH Executive Producer David Marquez said in the release, "I honestly can't believe we've made it 4 Season's on the air. It's been such a rollercoaster in all areas of the operation. I'm proud of everyone who's been associated with the broadcast and it is our goal to continue to create entertaining pro wrestling television. Also, going into the Oceanview Pavillion really is a dream come true for me, not only is it located right on the Pacific Ocean, it's the quintessential location to shoot our kind of show; think WCW at Atlanta's Center Stage, that's Oceanview!"

Opinionated View- Good for CWFH if WWE, TNA, or ROH aren't smart enough to use Striker than pick him up.

It appears that Alex Riley will be the one replacing Matt Striker on WWE Superstars. Striker was let go by the WWE last week.

1. Petey Williams defeated Brian Kendrick. Kendrick appeared to have injured his neck badly.

2. Young Bucks defeated Jigsaw and Tony Nese.

3. Paul London defeated Akio Yang to retain the Tri-borough championship.

4. Katarina and Angelina Love defeated Maria and Ivelisse.

5. RVD defeated Tommy Dreamer.

6. John Hennigan (a/k/a John Morrison) defeated Carlito to win the FWE Heavyweight title.

7. Tommy Dreamer won the Rumble match by eliminating Jay Lethal. The Sandman made a surprise entrance, as did Matt Striker. Striker appeared to injure his elbow after being eliminated by Dreamer.

Great show, worth watching. Matt Striker cut a SCATHING promo before the show on WWE, including their commentary. He provided commentary up until he was injured and eliminated from the Rumble.

Matt Striker Set to Announce at Next Family Wrestling Entertainment iPPV, RVD Appearing as Well

Matt Striker is set to work tomorrow's Family Wrestling Entertainment FWE Rumble iPPV in Queens, New York tomorrow. Striker will be commentating the iPPV. You can order the show here.

The show will also feature Rob Van Dam in one of his few indy bookings before he returns to the WWE next month. He's set to face Tommy Dreamer.
