2/28 TNA Impact Live Results
Impact Wrestling opens up with highlights from last week and then we see Gunner searching for James Storm backstage. He says that when Storm shows up he won’t “have a chance at hell.”
Mike Tenay says that Dixie Carter is not in attendance so she has given match making authority to Bobby Roode, Magnus, and EC3.
MVP comes down to the ring with some papers in his hand. MVP says with him in the ring it can only mean one thing, “big things poppin’, Dixie’s BS stopping.” MVP says last week the Lockdown Main Event was sealed, due in large part to James Storm’s immaturity and jealousy, and it will be Joe vs. Magnus. MVP says when he assumes full control he will make sure that Gunner gets another shot. He calls Magnus and Joe out to the ring.
MVP says he’s a little surprised to see Magnus out there alone and asks where his “sugar momma” Dixie is and asks if she is getting her “face spray painted.” Magnus says Dixie isn’t out there because this once great city isn’t what it used to be and London has degenerated into crime, poverty, and debauchery. He says ever since he left London it’s gone straight to hell. He says when it comes to handling the business of his career, the only person he needs is himself. He tells MVP to get on with the contract signing. Joe never stopped glaring at Magnus the entire time he spoke.
MVP asks Joe or Magnus if either would like to say anything to the other before they sign the contract, but they both shake their heads. MVP says he’s seen the way Magnus has defended his belt of late and inside the Cage his so called “Magnus Rules” that he’s been using will not be in effect however the “Joe Rules” will be. MVP says that means the match can only be won by submission or knockout! MVP asks if he thinks he can really force Joe to tap out.
Joe signs the contract and then Magnus says MVP thinks he can change the rules as time goes on and if he thinks he has an “ace up his sleeve” Magnus has a whole deck he isn’t even played yet. Magnus says Joe is an “unrefined, dangerous animal” and that is why the fans chant things like “Joe’s gonna’ kill you” which starts the chant up. Magnus mockingly calls Joe a role model to kids and then says you put down a “dangerous animal” when one gets out of control. Magnus says Joe will never again represent TNA as the World Champion and then signs the contract.
Joe gets in Magnus’ face and Magnus asks Joe if he’s just going to stand there and breathe his “dog breathe” in his face or is going to do something. Joe headbutts Magnus and then starts laying into him with relentless strikes! Referees run out to try and pull Joe off and MVP asks him to save it for the Cage Match as Magnus bails out of the ring. Joe follows Magnus and starts beating on him in the aisle as well! Finally security and TNA agents run out to pull Joe off.
Footage of The Wolves winning the Tag Team Titles this weekend at a live event is shown.
In the back Bro-Mans are freaking out about losing the Tag Titles to The Wolves. Jesse says they have to get on Team Roode for Lockdown to get back at the Wolves. They go looking for Roode and walk into his locker room. Roode guesses that they want to be on Team Roode but he says so did Bad Influence but last week they lost to The Wolves. Now Bro-Mans have lost their belts to The Wolves as well. Roode says he’s put together a match, a three-way pitting Bro-Mans, The Wolves, and Bad Influence tonight. He says if Bro-Mans win then they are on his team and if Bad Influence win then they are on the team, but if The Wolves win then neither Bro-Mans or Bad Influence are on the team.
----COMMERCIAL BREAK----
Triple Threat Tag Team
Non-Title Match
Bro-Mans vs. Bad Influence vs. The Wolves
Non-Title Match
Bro-Mans vs. Bad Influence vs. The Wolves
All three teams are already in the ring as we come back from the break which I am assuming is because Bro-Mans were still Tag Champs when this match was taped so they didn’t want to show them coming o the ring with the belts. Robbie and Daniels start the match off against each other but before they lockup Davey blind tags Robbie. The Wolves are wearing some slick black tights. Davey and Daniels lockup with Daniels catching Davey with a knee to the gut. He puts Davey in a side headlock but Davey shoves him into the ropes only to eat a shoulder block as Daniels bounces back. Daniels hits the ropes again but this time Davey catches him with a series of armdrags. Davey then rolls Daniles up for a nearfall and when Daniels kicks out Davey hooks Daniels’ legs, rolls him over, and locks in a crazy modified surfboard on the mat. Kaz tries to break it up but Eddie comes in and catches him with a drop toehold and then puts Kaz in a Mexican Surfboard! Davey releases Daniels’ arms and then rolls him over into a pin, 1…2…NO Daniels kicks out! Davey lights Daniels up with roundhouse kicks in the corner and then attempts an Irish Whip, but Daniels counters into a Forearm Smash and tags in Kaz. Kaz charges at Davey but gets caught with an armdrag and Davey holds onto an armlock on the mat. Davey tags in Eddie and holds Kaz’s arm stretched out as Eddie dives off the top with an Axe Handle Drop to the arm. Eddie tags Davey right back and holds the arm out as Davey dives off the top with an Axle Handle Drop of his own. The Wolves whip Kaz into the ropes and then Eddie catches him with a drop toehold and Davey nails him with a Sliding Dropkick to the side of the head! Davey kicks Kaz and then attempts to whip him into the ropes but Kaz reverses it and Daniels kicks Davey in the back as he hits the ropes. Davey knocks Daniels off the apron and then hits Kaz with a series of rights. Davey hits the ropes but Daniels trips him and holds his legs as Kaz hits a Springboard Guillotine Leg Drop! Kaz punches Davey repeatedly and then tags Daniels back into the match. Bad Influence takes Davey down to his knees where Kaz kicks him in the chest, Daniels hits a Lariat to the back, and then Kaz hits an Elbow Drop! Daniels taunts Bro-Mans like he is going to tag one of them into the match and then knocks Eddie off the apron and double teams Davey with Kaz. Kaz tags back in and then Bad Influence goes for a Double Back Suplex on him, but Davey lands on his feet and then tries to kick Daniels but gets his foot caught. Davey then goes for an Enziguri but Daniels ducks and Davey kicks Kaz! Davey tries to tag in Eddie but Daniels catches his foot. Davey rolls through sending Daniels into a forearm from Eddie! Davey tags in Eddie and then Eddie hits a series of elbows on Bad Influence and then he knocks Bro-Mans off the apron! Eddie whips Kaz into the ropes and attempts a backdrop but eats a big kick from Kaz. Kaz goes for a clothesline but Eddie ducks and hits a Back Suplex into a Facebuster! 1…2…NO Robbie E breaks it up! Daniels hits Eddie from behind and then Bad Influence hits a Powerbomb /Neckbreaker combo on Eddie! 1…2…NO Eddie kicks out! Daniels argues with the crowd and then they set up for the High/Low but Davey trips Daniels from the outside and pulls him out. In the ring Eddie counters a whip into the corner on Kaz and then charges at him only toe at a boot from Kazarian. Kaz climbs up top but Eddie hits a Leaping Enziguri and then he hits the Chin Checker on Kaz! 1…2…NO Jesse breaks it up! Daniels comes in and tries to throw Eddie out to the floor but Eddie reverses it and then hits a Suicide Dive through the ropes onto Daniels on the floor! Eddie climbs up top and hits a Diving Double Foot Stomp to the back of Kaz. As Eddie dove Davey blind tagged himself into the match and then he climbs up top and hits a Diving Double Foot Stomp of his own on the chest of Kaz! As he dove, though, Robbie E tagged his foot and then Robbie tosses Davey out to the floor and Jesse tosses Eddie out to the floor! Robbie covers Kaz, 1…2…3!
Winners: Bro-Mans via pinfall (Diving Double Foot Stomp)
In the back EC3 talks about getting the chance to pick his own opponent tonight. He says he has chosen one of the greatest British wrestlers of all time, and then he will expose the truth during Kurt Angle’s Hall of Fame ceremony.
----COMMERCIAL BREAK----
Back from the break Roode and Aries are shown talking, and Aries says “really Bobby are we still talking about this fluke crap?” And Roode says everyone knows Aries beating him was a fluke. Aries says he knows Roode didn’t come find him to talk about the past so why is he here. Roode says he came to talk about the future and he knows MVP offered him a spot on his team at Lockdown, but he asks Aries if he can really trust MVP. Aries asks Roode if he can really trust him and Roode asks Aries who he wants leading TNA into the future, MVP or Dixie. Aries says he knows Roode hates Dixie Carter and this is all about the 10% she offered him, and the thought of working for Roode makes him laugh. Roode says that’s right, he would be working for him if Team Roode wins which is why he needs to make the right decision. Aries says he always makes the right decision.
EC3 comes out to a chorus of boos and he introduces Doug Williams to the crowd. EC3 says just like the United States is going to win the World Cup in Soccer he’s going to defeat Williams tonight.
Ethan Carter III vs. Doug Williams
Williams nails EC3 with a series of rights at the bell and then lights him up with European Uppercuts. Williams hits the ropes and connects with a Corkscrew Elbow followed by a series of headbutts and European Uppercuts. Williams hits the Anarchy Knee to EC3 in the corner and then goes for a T-Bone Suplex, but EC3 catches him with an elbow and then whips Williams into a corner. EC3 charges at him but eats a boot from the Brit. Williams climbs up top and when EC3 charges at him Williams simply moves out of the way. Williams climbs up the opposite corner and dives off with a Flying European Uppercut! Williams goes for Chaos Theory but EC3 blocks it and then swings at Williams. Williams ducks it and goes for Chaos Theory again, but EC3 low blows him as the referee was out of position. EC3 hits the One Percenter for the pin.
Winner: EC3 via pinfall (One Percenter)
After the match EC3 puts Williams in a Kneebar and refuses to let go as the referee begs him to stop.
James Storm is shown arriving backstage.
----COMMERCIAL BREAK----
James Storm comes out to the ring as footage of him turning on Gunner last week is shown. Storm says this cowboy doesn’t run or hide from anyone or anything so if he wants to know why he did what he did then he’s right here to tell him.
Gunner comes out to the ring and Storm says before he does anything crazy he needs to hear him out. Storm says he’s going to tell him man to man that he did screw Gunner out of the World Title, and he’s had it planned out ever since he climbed over Storm to get that briefcase in Feast or Fired. He says he wanted Gunner to know how it felt to have his hopes and his dreams in the palm of his hands to see them disappear. He says the nail in the coffin for Gunner was when he handed him that Tag Team Title shot briefcase like he was handing scraps to a dog like he was going to take a backseat to Gunner. He says he doesn’t take a backseat to anybody.
Gunner asks Storm if he wanted him to just hand over his World Title shot and Storm says he’s damn right he should have done that because before he teamed with Storm he was nothing. Storm says Gunner used him to get himself noticed and never once did Gunner thank him. Gunner says the sad thing is Storm probably believes all that. He says he’s worked for everything he’s received and when he was in the Marine core a thank you was standing beside your friend and going to war with him. Gunner says the reason Storm can sit at home and drink beer and do whatever else he wants is because of him and his friends that went to war for America. Gunner says he chose his path and Gunner asks if he “chose” to be a robot and have a gun pointed at his head overseas. He says whether Gunner lived or died in war no one gave a damn, but Gunner says his friends and family cared and now the fans care about him. Storm says nobody owes Gunner a damn thing.
Gunner decks Storm and they start brawling all around ringside. Storm grabs a chair and swings it at Gunner but Gunner ducks and Storm bails out through the crowd as Gunner grabs the chair.
----COMMERCIAL BREAK----
In the back if Storm wants to run and hide like a coward that is fine because there is only one way out of the arena so he has to come through him.
Clips of the fight between Joe and Magnus earlier are shown. Magnus comes back out to the ring and he says if Joe wants to take cheapshots at him he has a solution for him. A big guy in tights is standing next to Magnus. Magnus says he was looking for someone to take care of Joe tonight but he couldn’t find anyone in the UK because he is the only good wrestler to come out of here so he had to go to Germany to find someone. He calls the man a “Natural Born Killer” and says his name is Bad Bones. This is the guy that won a Gut Check in the UK last year.
“Samoan Submission Machine” Samoa Joe vs. Bad Bones
Joe hits the ring and Bones attacks him as he climbs in but Joe shrugs him off and hits a series of nasty jabs and strikes in the corner. Joe hits a series of Knee Strikes and then he facewashes Bones in the corner repeatedly. Joe hits a Running Facewash and then Joe hits the Muscle Buster! ----COMMERCIAL BREAK----
In the back MVP walks into Austin Aries’ locker room and he says he needs to know Aries’ decision about Team MVP. He says he talked to Roode earlier and now he’s kind of on the fence about all of this. MVP says Roode would say whatever Aries wanted to hear to get him on his team and Aries says MVP would do the same. Aries says you can’t just trust anyone in this business and Aries says he isn’t all about the money, he always wants to be great. He says he wants to see how great MVP is and he wants to watch the match between Roode and MVP up, close, and personal. He suggests MVP make Aries the Special Referee in the Main Event tonight and MVP agrees.
Jeremy Borash is in the ring for Kurt Angle’s Hall of Fame induction. JB mentions the night that it was announced Kurt Angle was coming to TNA as one of his most fond memories in TNA and then he introduces a special video tribute to Angle. JB introduces Angle and he is visibly limping as he comes to the ring. JB presents a special Rolex to Kurt and welcomes him to the TNA Hall of Fame.
Angle shows the Rolex to the camera and then thanks the crowd who are chanting “Thank you Angle.” Angle says this is quite an honor and that the TNA Hall of Fame isn’t about him, it’s about the TNA fans. He says without the fans TNA would not exist and he was supposed to accept this back in October, but he wasn’t in a good place in his life at the time. He says that he had to do some soul searching and change some things in his life, and after four and a half months he was ready to accept the HOF in London. Angle says from getting himself clean to the amazing matches he’s had in TNA all he can do is thank the people that helped him along the way. He thanks God for giving his ability and his wife and kids. He says he just wants to make his kids proud and then he thanks all the TNA wrestlers and the fans. He says it’s a great night to be Kurt Angle but before he can leave EC3’s music hits.
EC3 comes out and mockingly acts like he is going to cry after seeing Angle’s induction speech. EC3 says he happens to have a touching video of his own. Footage of him taking Angle’s knee out a few weeks ago is shown as EC3 laughs. EC3 says he means no disrespect but he is depriving the fans of the real big news from Kurt. Kurt asks him what he’s talking about and he can get in the ring and even use the podium to tell us all what big news he’s talking about. EC3 gets in the ring and pulls out a paper that has “I BEAT STING (AND KURT ANGLE)” in big letters on the back of it.
EC3 says an unnamed source has stated that Kurt Angle has suffered a torn ACL and MCL and he will need surgery due to the savage attack by EC3, and it is unclear whether Kurt Angle will ever be able to perform again. EC3 sarcastically apologizes for attacking Kurt and then he says it’s time for Kurt to officially retire. Kurt gets in EC3’s face and asks EC3 why he would get in the ring with him when he knows that Angle is going to tear his throat out. EC3 says Kurt has a torn ACL and MCL so unless there is an Olympic Sport for “gimping” then he’s pretty sure he could be mobile enough to get out of the way. Kurt says if he’s going to confirm something he should probably confirm it with “the” source, and EC3 asks why because the internet is always right. Angle says since he is the actual source neither his MCL nor his ACL are torn. Angle asks EC3 if he really wants to be in the ring right now with him and EC3 says he really doesn’t as it looks like he is about to crap on himself. Angle says he knows EC3 is new here and he’s trying to make a name for himself, but why the hell would he pick Kurt Angle and then Kurt decks EC3!
EC3 rolls out of the ring and retreats up the ramp. Angle says MVP gave him a little Hall of Fame gift, a match at Lockdown with EC3 inside the Steel Cage!
----COMMERCIAL BREAK----

He won the AAA Tag Team and Cruiserweight Titles in the past and was trained by the legendary Rey Misterio Sr. who also trained his nephew Rey Misterio Jr., Konnan, Psicosis, Hayabusa, and many, many others.
In the back Samuel Shaw says Christy Hemme was in trouble last week and he helped her. He says no one understands, he would do anything for her. He says he is going to make everyone understand.
----COMMERCIAL BREAK----
Samuel Shaw comes down to the ring as footage of him attacking Mr. Anderson last week is shown. Shaw says that Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “to be great is to be misunderstood.” Shaw says that Christy Hemme has misunderstood him and if she doesn’t mind he would like her to come into the ring as a big “NO” chant starts. Shaw says he has respected her space but there are certain men that are not respected her wish. Shaw says he sees how they look at her and how they lust for her. He says he is here to protect Christy and these men want just one thing from her, he wants more. He says he wants everything but then Mr. Anderson’s music hits!
Anderson walks out with a big black eye. Shaw says Ken Anderson is one of those guys that wants one thing from her and she’s lucky he was there for her last week. Anderson tells Shaw to shut up and calls him a “creepy bastard” which starts a big “creepy bastard” chant. Anderson says Shaw’s “relationship” with Hemme isn’t real but what is real is the ass whooping he gives Shaw. Anderson starts to get in the ring but Shaw stops him and says he is not creepy, he has been nothing but a gentleman to Christy. He says he never did one thing lascivious to her and if he was to do something lascivious to her he knows Christy was be receptive of it because women like Christy are always available. She slaps Shaw and he looks like he’s about to pop a blood vessel.
Shaw corners Christy and Anderson hits the ring but Shaw uses Christy as a shield and then he throws her at Anderson. Shaw then catches Anderson in a Standing Arm Triangle that chokes Anderson out as the fans chant “creepy bastard” at him.

Shoulders to the ribs, followed by a chop. Mojo again sent off the turnbuckles and CJ with more trash talk. Crowd wills on Mojo, but CJ with more left hands. Mojo with 2 avalanches in the corner, followed by the running butt smash.
Mojo goes into Hyper-Drive for the win.
Winner: Mojo Rawley by pinfall (The Hyper-Drive)
Mojo celebrates his win afterward.
THOUGHTS: About as good as you can ask for given the slot they were in and what they had to follow. Mojo, while still very green, has a lot of raw tools that with tons more seasoning, can be a star in the making.

Winners and STILL NXT Tag Team Champions: The Ascension by pinfall (The Fall of Man)
Konnor yells afterward that nobody will stop us. The Ascension stands tall to celebrate their title retention.
THOUGHTS: Solid, but something didn't click for me with this, which is also my thoughts on 99 percent of Ascension matches. Loved the new music for them, though, big improvement.

We see a video package on Paige.

Emma gains a nearfall. Emma avoids a charge and applies the Dil-Emma in the corner. Emma charges again and this time hits the Emma Sandwich for a nearfall. Seated surfboard applied by Emma. Crowd wills on Paige now. Paige tries to get to her feet, but Emma pulls her back down and re-applies the surfboard, with her feet pressed against Paige's kidneys. Emma switches to a variation of the longbow backbreaker as the crowd chants for Paige. Emma lifts Paige to a standing position, then drives her down face-first for a nearfall. PAIGE TURNER, EMMA KICKS OUT!! Paige can't believe it!! That's the first time someone has kicked out of the Paige Turner.
Paige locks Emma in a Scorpion Crosslock, shades of women's wrestling legend Bull Nakano, Emma taps.
Winner and STILL NXT Women's Champion: Paige by submission (Scorpion Crosslock)
Paige celebrates her title retention afterwards. Paige lifts up Emma to her feet and the two embrace. "Divas" chant for both women.
THOUGHTS: Folks, THAT is how you do women's wrestling the RIGHT WAY in the mainstream. Just as good, if not better, than their tournament final back in July last year. Emma, through all the silliness, is still one helluva wrestler and she showed it here. Loved the Paige Turner finisher kickout, very believable false finish. Paige busting out a Bull Nakano-esque Scorpion Crosslock for the finish was sensational. Great women's match. WWE Divas, take notice.
Backstage, Adrian Neville gets ready for his NXT Title Ladder Match later tonight.
We see a video package on Adrian Neville, showing off his Red Arrow finisher.
We see WWE Hall of Famers Pat Patterson & Dusty Rhodes sitting in the front row.

Before the bell, Alexander Rusev hits the ring and lays out both Breeze & Woods. Rusev with a slam to Woods, then applies the Accolade. Lana comes out as Rusev cuts a promo in his native Russian.
No Contest
THOUGHTS: Apparently, some people had stream issues during this. I didn't, but I also wanted this show's stream to work and not fail, so there's that. Just a showcase for Rusev to remind everyone is coming to WWE, fine cool down before the main event.
Backstage, Bo Dallas gets ready for his NXT Title Ladder Match tonight.
We see a video package on NXT Champion Bo Dallas.
We see legends Larry Zbyszko & Steve Keirn sitting in the front row.
We see a video package on the Bo Dallas-Adrian Neville rivalry heading into tonight.
Before the main event, WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels comes out to the ring with the NXT Title belt. HBK says he is honored to be there. "One More Match" chants by the crowd. HBK says he appreciates the chant, but he is fat, out of shape, doesn't adhere to a dress code, who wants to change all of that? Certainly not me. "HB-Shizzle" chants. HBK says we need a "HB-Shizzle" t-shirt. HBK does a cheap plug for his Wrestlemania DVD & Blu-Ray. HBK says two very talented young men are about to step into this ring, but one has a chance to step into history & greatness.
Main Event in a Ladder Match for the NXT Title: "The Man That Gravity Forgot" Adrian Neville vs. Bo Dallas (c)
New music for Neville. HBK shakes hands with both men before leaving the ring. Pre-match intros for this match with the lights dimmed and the NXT Title spotlighted on its hanger. Bo goes to leave the ring, but Neville with a spinning back kick and a front kick. Neville with front kip-ups, then Bo runs into a boot. Neville goes to the middle rope and hits a missile dropkick. Neville heads up top for Red Arrow, but Bo rolls out to the apron. Bo sweeps out Neville's legs and unloads with right hands from the mount. Short-arm back elbows, followed by a short-arm clothesline. Bo places Neville in the ropes and traps his leg in them. Bo leaves the ring and retrieves a ladder. Bo goes to bring it in, but Neville with a baseball slide, sending the ladder into Bo. Neville then wipes out Bo with a slingshot plancha! Right hands from the mount by Neville. Neville brings the ladder into the ring, but Bo grabs his leg and pulls him to the outside, then drives Neville back-first into the steel steps. Bo with right hands and stomps, Neville sent head-first off the apron. Bo traps Neville in the ring skirt and unloads with more right hands. Bo goes and gets a second ladder from the entranceway. Bo lifts up the ladder, but Neville avoids a head shot. Neville counters a butterfly suplex by Bo and backdrops him on the rampway!! Back in, Neville sets up the ladder, climbs it, but Bo stops him by nailing him in the back with the other ladder!! Bo grabs the ladder and drives it ribs-first multiple times into Neville. Bo sets up the ladder, pinning Neville underneath. Bo climbs the ladder, but Neville uses his feet to lift up the ladder and send Bo throat-first off the top rope!! Neville climbs the ladder, but Bo turns it over and sends Neville throat-first off the top rope, both men down. Both have a tug-of-war with a ladder until Bo drives Neville into the corner, ramming the ladder into his ribs. Bo sandwiches a ladder between the top and middle ropes, then goes for a slingshot, but Neville blocks it. Neville then uses the ladder as a step-stool and hits a Tornado DDT! Bo with a series of clotheslines in the corner to Neville, followed by a running one. Bo grabs Neville and goes for a bulldog onto the ladder, but Neville counters by sending Bo into the sandwiched ladder in the corner! Neville climbs the ladder, but Bo climbs up the other side. Bo drives Neville's head multiple times into the ladder, then sends him onto the apron. Neville comes back with a roundhouse, then heads up top, but Bo throws him off and sends Neville crashing back-first onto the apron, then down to the outside! Bo smiles at the fallen Neville, knowing he has the match won. Bo climbs the ladder, but NEVILLE SPRINGBOARDS ONTO IT! Bo goes for a German off the ladder, but Neville fights it with elbows. Bo then POWERBOMBS NEVILLE INTO THE SANDWICHED LADDER IN THE CORNER!! Bo charges with the ladder, but Neville gets a boot up. Neville front slams Bo onto the ladder! Neville heads up top and HITS RED ARROW WHILE BO WAS ON THE LADDER!!! "NXT" chants by the crowd as both men are hurting. Bo rolls out to the outside while Neville sets up the ladder. Neville climbs the ladder, but Bo gets back in
However its too late as Neville grabs the NXT Title belt and wins the title!!
Winner and NEW NXT Champion: "The Man That Gravity Forgot" Adrian Neville
Neville celebrates his title win on top of the ladder afterward with the steam pyro. We see John Cena in the crowd clapping for Neville's title win. Neville stands tall with his newly won NXT Title as we close the show.

Flashback Reviews Lockdown 2008
Samoa Joe debuted for TNA in 2005 he would embark on a seventeen month unbeaten streak. In 2006 Kurt Angle debuted for TNA and became the man to finally beat Joe. Thus kicking off one of TNA's best feuds. Fast foreword to 2008 and TNA is ready to put the belt on Joe. They decided to it at the one of biggest events Lockdown. Now in 2014 with Joe once again challenging for the world title at Lockdown makes sense to look back at Lockdown 2008. An interesting thing about this match was several "news" sites reported with would be the start of TNA going for more an MMA based style of wrestling. Now I like MMA and while some things do cross over (mainly fans no matter how much some idiots claim they don't) Pro Wrestling is Pro Wrestling and MMA is MMA. Now Kurt Angle did come out in MMA trunks and shoeless so I think it was more of the sites hearing Kurt's plans for an MMA style match and running with. Also Joe did some stuff with MMA fighter Marcus Davis but Joe has trained MMA in the past. Of course if you have seen TNA post 2008 you know it's not MMA based.
We open with Mike Tenay in the empty arena inside the cage. Mike talks about how tonight there is more on the line than just a title if Samoa Joe can't win he must leave wrestling behind. Tenay is great here he's very serious and has a perfect delivery and I like chaining it up from the normal music video style open. This actually makes the big stipulation seem more important because it just Tenay laying out the facts for us. Than we go to the usual PPV opening. We have the "Steel Cage" flaming it's has no soul and it will hurt the men that step into it. Kind of a gimmick but it works here. We get various clips of the action leading up the PPV and past six sides of steel matches in TNA. Our final line is someone saying "May God have mercy on there souls." Another pretty effective open to get over how dangerous this PPV will be. We our out of Lowell Massachusetts for this PPV and I always love when TNA is out on the road. Don West in in the crowd he asks who will win Joe or Angle. West tosses to JB who is up in stands both men ask fans who will win. This feels more like something for a PPV pre show not a pay portion of the show. Mike Tenay takes over and talks about nothing is bigger than putting your career on the line.
Xscape Match For the X-Division Championship Black Machismo Jay Lethal © vs Curry Man vs Sonjay Dutt vs Johnny Devine vs Consequences Creed vs Shark Boy- The rules of this match were if you are pinned or submit you are out when it's down to the final two men first one to escape wins. Tenay points out the Lethal and Sonjay are best friends as TNA was doing a long term build for an eventual feud would also include So Cal Val who at time was in a romance with Lethal. Curry Man was Christopher Daniels in a mask this was TNA's way of keeping him on the roster even though they run out of things for The Fallen Angel to do he started the gimmick in Japan and brought it to the US. Devine had been the trader to the X-Division and joined up with Team 3D when they tried to destroy it and and Creed is the future Xavier Woods he had just debuted for TNA. Shark Boy was doing his Stone Cold Shark Boy gimmick. People can claim Black Machismo was stupid but it did wonder for Lethal in terms of brining out his personality and helping him connect with the fans. Not to mention his promos were ten times better in this gimmick than as just Jay Lethal. Dutt and Devine start us off. Step up rana and arm drag by Dutt. Devein tries to tag out but everyone just punches him instead. Finally Devine is able to tag in Curry Man. Lethal and Dutt take everyone out with a number of moves like a assisted standing moonsault. Attempt at the tower of doom but Devine holds on so Shark Boy and Curry Man just wind up power bombing Lethal and Dutt. Creed arm drags Devine off the tope rope. Chummer by Shark Boy on Lethal but Dutt makes the save. Devine rolls up Dutt to eliminate him. Missile dropkick by Shark Boy hit Devine. Twisting fishermen's buster by Creed on Sharky. Curry Man sits Creed in the corner and hits a flying hip attack. Spice Drop attempt by Curry man but Creed shoves Shark Boy into him saving Devine. Hammer Lock DDT by Creed on Shark Boy eliminates the man from the sea. Tenay tells us Dutt is still at ringside cheering on Lethal. Curry Man climbs to the top of the cage. Devine shakes the cage and Curry slips. Curry hangs. Lethal and Devine fight Devine goes for a Shooting Star Press but Lethal moves. Double team back body drop by Devine and Creed on Lethal. Devine attacks Creed. Curry Man recovers and summer fault dive takes out Creed and Devine. Sadly West calls it a moonsault. Spice Rack on Creed and he is gone. Curry and Lethal with the Hart Attack but Devine kicks at two. Spice Rack on Lethal but Devine cuts Curry Man off so he can hit the Devine Intervention. Now normally I bitch about making a save in a eliminate standpoint. But here it makes since Curry is gone and Lethal is still down. Putting Devein in control in the escape portion. Devein tries to go through the door but Lethal hooks his leg. Lethal tossed into the cage wall. Devine takes the tape off his writs to tie Lethal to the ropes. Sonjay won't let the door be opened so Devine has to climb up the cage to get out. Dutt gets an electrons knife and hands it Lethal who cuts himself free and dives out the door before Devine can get down. Decent spot fest opening and we sold the ongoing story with Lethal and Dutt. Plus I can buy a elections knife being under the ring more easily than the other stuff we usually find.
Post match Lethal, Val, an Dutt celebrate. JB is with MMA fighter Frank Trigg. Trigg is a buddy of Kurt Angle's and was appearing as an analyst for TNA at this time for big matches. He was actually pretty decent at it and given the fact Trigg is pretty unlikeable he good a good heel. Trigg threatens JB for brining up Matt Hughes and GSP. JB asks what is going though the heads of Kurt and Joe. Trigg talks about how Kurt has been here before in tough matches while Joe hasn't and reminds us Joe has failed three times. Trigg says he sees Joe hanging for a little while but Kurt will win. JB asks Joe's recent training with another MMA fighter Marcus Davis. Trigg says it won't be enough. Pretty good segment setting up the main event and Trigg's role as a Kurt's buddy.
Queen of the Cage Christy Hemme vs Salinas vs Jackie Moore vs Traci Brooks vs Angelina Love vs Velvet Sky vs Rhaka Khan vs Roxxi Laveaux- Hemme was in the Rock and Rave infection at this time. Salins worked for WWE as Ariel and has molded as Shelly Martinez she was LAX's valet this time. Jackie Moore was the valet of James Storm, West and Tenay put over Jackie's success in the past. Brooks had spent most of the last year plus managing Robert Roode but turned face at this point. Love and Sky were in the early days of the Beautiful People gimmick and had just given a "makeover" to Roxxi. Khan was Lady Tapi with less talent she sucked but TNA kept her around way to long hoping here look would pay off some day and she would learn how to wrestle at this stage with with Scott Steiner and Petey Williams. Roxxi was still doing her voodoo gimmick she had just gotten free from the whole VKM mess. The rules were the first two girls to climb over the top into the cage would than wrestle the winner would become number 1 contender to the Knockouts title. This was your classic "Get everyone on the card match. I get what TNA wanted but the whole idea didn't work. The Beautiful People jump Roxxi at the start. Traci and Jackie fight it out. Angelina mangoes to climbs up and over first. Velvet and Traci both climb up. Roxxi stops Velvet. Jackie and Traci stop each other. Roxxi gets in second. they would have been better off just booking a Roxxi vs Angelina match for this PPV instead of the dumb gimmick match. Big elbow by Roxxi takes down Angelina. Running big boot gets two for Roxxi. Angelina gets a hold of Roxxi's scarf and uses it to choke her. Bicycle kick by Angelina gets two. Lights out by Angelina but Roxxi kicks out. The fans chant for Roxxi. Angelina taunts the fans. Rolls up by Angelina but Roxxi uses her legs to send her into the cage wall. Voodoo Drop by Roxxi for the win. Ok match once it was down to one on one but nothing to special still better than anything with a Bella Twin or Alicia Fox.
Backstage Lauren Thompson is with Samoa Joe. Joe says there is no need to repeat what he said five weeks ago. Joe tells us he hasn't though about losing and Kurt knows Joe can beat him. Joe talks about giving his life to the sport of pro wrestling. Joe says he will giving anything for the world title even his career and life. Great fired up promo by Joe talking about the biggest match of life. We than go to a video recapping the BJ and Kip James feud. Both guys try but I don't guy anything said here.
BG James vs Kip James- Kip had turned on BG when BG (who in storyline wanted to live a dream) had picked Bullet Bob to partner with for a tag title shot. Kip had hit Bob with a crutch at some point. Kip jumps BG right at the start. Stomp by Kip on BG who is down and than another stomp. Jabs by BG cut off when Kip hits a stunner. Ok I will give credit that was a smart spot it was BG doing one of his normal spots and Kip knowing what was coming cut him off. BG trapped in the ropes and cage wall and Kip rams his head into the cage. BG goes for a lariat but Kip catches him with a knee to the stomach. Tenay and West say Kip was the muscle of the team while BG was usually the brains. BG tossed into the cage wall face fist. Famouser by Kip but he's way to slow to follow up so BG kicks out. Kip to the second rope famouseror misses low blow by BG both men are down. Punch exchange when they are up. BG with a back elbow and than the jabs before tossing Kip into the cage a few times. Knee drop by BG gets two. BG crouches himself by mistake when he goes to hits a knee on Kip. Kip misses a splash roll up by BG for the win. Boring match these two guys were so washed up at this point it's sad. BG became a road agent a few months later while Kip was reduced to a comedy roll as Cute Kip after this. And in 2014 the WWE put the tag belts on two guys so old they make the What ever you wan to call them of this time look like Daniel Bryan and Punk.
Post match BG pulls Kip and extending the hand. Kip holds up BG's hand before cold clocking him. BG stands up BG and tells him to suck it. Yeah yeah who cares. JB is with Kurt Angle. JB talks about how Kurt has distanced himself form every and asks why this match is so important? Kurt talks about how he beat everyone the WWE put him against and than he watched TNA and saw Samoa Joe. He says Joe has an intensity he has only seen in the mirror. He says all four times they have wrestled they were pushed to the limits. Kurt says its personal in order to prove he is the best he needs to end Joe's career. Great promo by Angle. Now that I can buy. I really do think Joe and Angle did push each other to be the best.
Cuffed in the Cage Rock and Rave Infection Jimmy Rave & Lance Hoyt vs Eric Young & Kaz vs Rellik and Black Reign vs The Motor City Machine Guns Chris Sabin & Alex Shelley vs LAX Homicide & Hernandez vs Scott Steiner & Petey Williams- Rave says its great to be back in New York City to get heat. Backstage we see Black Reign and Rellik beating up Eric Young. Kaz runs in and save his partner security pulls everyone apart. Eric Young is "badly hurt" and Kaz is forced to out alone. Rellik was the former Johnny the Bull and Black Reign was Dustin Rhodes in a crazy man gimmick. Rellik was kind of cool Black Reign like anything Dustin has done post 1997 has sucked at this point they were feuding with Kaz and Eric Young taking advantage of EY's fear. LAX had a feud with Rock and Rave going on. This was another get as many guys as we can on the card and the rules were you had to handcuff the other wrestlers using handcuffs that were on the cage. Kaz doesn't get in into the end and still no Eric Young. Everyone brawls belly to belly suplex series by Steiner. Hernandez catapults Steiner and than the drive by by Homicide. Hoyt, Rellik, and Black Reign gang up and handcuff Steiner first. Eric Young makes his way out but he sees Rellik and Black Reign who taunt him as EY tries to climb up. Eric leaves. Rellik and Black Reign double team up on Kaz. Sliced bread attempts by Shelley but Williams shoves him off and into the cage Shelley gets cuffed. Wave of the future by Kaz on Sabin who gets cuffed. Rellik and Black Reign with double team spiked DDT on Williams and they cuff him. Dooms day Gringo cutter on Kaz by LAX. Rave gets cracker jacked into the cage. Big clothesline by Hoyt drops Hernandez. Low blowy by Black Reign on Hernandez and Super Mex is cuffed. Kaz with the Flux Capacitor on Rave. Homicide has been cuffed its downy o Kaz and four heels. Big booty by Hoyt. Leaping kick by Kaz stuns Hoyt. Flux Capacitor attempts by Kaz but Hoyt turns it into a choke slam from the top rope. Kaz gets cuffed. Down to Rock and Rave vs Reign and Rellik. The monster jump Rock and Rave. Suddenly music starts to play and Super Eric arrives. The idea was that when EY became Super Eric he no longer had the fears that held by Eric Young. I liked gimmick given it was funny and a nice way to start moving away from the Eric is a coward stuff. Cross body off the top by Super Eric. Rave is cuffed. Hoyt charges but Super Eric back body drops him into the cage and cuff him. Double team by the monsters. The monsters go to cuff Super Eric but some how Super Eric cuff Rellik. Death Valley Driver by Super Eric Reign is cuffed. Match is a mess.I get they wanted everyone on the PPV but they would have been better off just doing Young and Kaz vs the Monsters. Plus with some the guys hand cuffed to the cage it could hard for the wrestlers to move around.
Post match Super Eric breaks the handcuffs holding Kaz. Super Eric and Kaz celebrate the win. Backstage Lauren with Samoa Joe's family. At this time at a lot of TNA PPV's Joe would come out and do a War Dance with his family as part of his entrance so his family is dressed for that. Joe's father is asked about the possibility of Joe losing. Joe's dad says no way and this is all he has ever wanted since he was a little boy. Joe father win or lose he loves his son and than speaks in Samoan. I actually like this segment it was cool to see Joe's family there support him and Joe's dad did ok for a non wrestler.
Awesome Kong and Raisha Saeed vs Gail Kim and ODB- Kong worked as Kharma in the WWE for a few weeks Saeed you would know as Cheerleader Melissa she also used the name as Alissa Flash. The gimmick was Saeed was some woman from the middle east so she was alway in a veil who had met Kong years earlier and was her one friend. Kong has ended Gail's Knockouts title reign and ODB was the the girls that refused to back down to Kong. West and Tenay talk about how ODB had been rivals but came together out of the shared hate of Kong and Saeed. ODB with some big shots and ducks a Kong clothesline. Kong catches ODB on a slide and tosser her away tag to Gail and tag to Saeed. Saeed with an arm drag and than slam Gail's arm into the mat. Gail escapes and goes over the back into a arm drag. Takedown by Saeed into a submission hold. Power slam by Saeed followed by an elbow drop. Great looking fishermen's suplex by Saeed gets a two count. Up and over than a drop kick by Gail and flying head scissors by Gail. Gail spring to the middle rope but Kong slams Gail's face into the cage. Saeed sits Gail on the top rope.Said uses her boot to ram Gail's head into the cage over and over again. Tag to Kong. Gail tries to fire but a double chop puts her down. Running avalanche splash by Kong tag back to Saeed. Spear by Gail on Saeed. Tag to ODB. Running clotheslines by ODB who cheap shots Kong a few times. Fall away slam by ODB cover and Kong breaks it up. All four knockouts into fight. Gail climbs up the cage but Saeed blocks her and sets for a top rope power bomb. Huncanrana by Gail on Saeed as she stand on the top rope. Kong hits Saeed by mistake with a spinning backlist. Missile dropkick by Gail take out Kong. Top rope splash by ODB for the win. Very good match all four women worked just fine and never had a rough spot. Gail as usual shinned with some high risks moves in the cage.
Backstage JB with Karen Angle the wife of Kurt. In storyline the two had separated so Kurt could focus on this match (in real life they separated later that year.) JB says no one expected to see her. Karen she is there to support the father of her children and says Kurt has changed because of this match. She also says she is concurred if Kurt doesn't live his own expectations. Decent promo I just hope with Jarrett new company he doesn't make Karen featured act.
Booker T and Sharmell vs Robert Roode and Payton Banks- Booker had debuted at Genesis in November of 2007 and Roode wasn't happy to see another start taking time from him. During the events of a match at Final Resolution in January Roode had punched Sharmell and spent months mocking Booker and running from him. Banks is best known as Rain on the Indy Scene sadly she never got much of a chance win TNA. It seemed like TNA brought her into to do a few matches with Traci and than fill Traci's roll in this match. Also I don't' think she quite got the role as Payton Banks as it was different from her Rain gimmick and she never really got it figured out. Roode was just starting to come into his own at this point as a heel and showed why he was a future world champion. Mike and Don talk about how Booker has to feel like he needs to protect Sharmell and beat Roode. Roode an Booker start us off. The storyline was Jim Cornett had booked this match and Booker wasn't happy. As Booker checks on Sharmell at the start Roode drops him. Big chops by both men to start. Exchange of knees. Spin kick by Booker. Great looking by Roode. Roode moves towards Sharmell before going after Booker. Neckbreaker by Roode as he mocks Sharmell to tag in. You know I when I first put in this DVD to review it (since I hadn't watched the show in years) I was confused why put Sharmell and Banks in the cage but I get it. Because it put the element that Roode could get to her again in there and Roode plays this up great. Running back elbow than a knee drop by Roode. West puts over the fact that as much as we hate Roode you have to respect his talent. Kick by booker lands. Ax kick attempt but Roode hits a spine buster for two. Again Roode mocks Sharmell and even extends Booker's hand at her. West and Tenay say Booker had promised to never put Sharmell in harm's way again. Another kick by Booker and both men are down. Booker blocks punch and hits some chops and than flying forearm. Suplex by Booker gets two. Booker with a spine buster but not nearly as good looking as Roode's. Spin a Rooney time by Booker. Ax Kick misses again. Roode fights out of the book end. Booker blocks the pay off. Roode rams Booker into the cage. Sharmell tags in and windmills slaps on Roode. Roode grabs her hair. Banks tags herself in and tells Roode to hold Sharmell. Sharmell escapes and Banks slaps Roode. Roll up by Sharmell on Banks for the win. Ok match the Booker and Roode stuff was pretty good I do with there had been some blood given how intense the feud had been at times.
Post match Rode snaps at Banks and acts like he is about to hit her but walking off. Backstage Lauren is with UFC fighter Marcus Davis who was Joe's "trainer." Davis put over how good the camp had been with Joe and how they had gone over everything. Davis called Joe a complete fighter. Lauren asks what Joe needs to do to win? Davis says stick to the plan. Again decent promo. Davis was not the most popular UFC guy but they were playing to the Massachusetts audience.

Good match but it lakes the big match feeling of the PPV match like most TV rematches do. One thing I like was the match started out with Joe laid back and calm and Kurt desperate but as Kurt found success he relaxed and Joe appeared to be getting upset.
Lockdown 2008 has some very silly stipulation matches in an effort to get everyone on the card. But I can forgive the silly stipulations since they were done by wrestlers and no spot monkeys or guys that can't wrestles so they "go hardcore." There are also several very good matches in the Xscape, Knockouts tag, Mixed Tag, Lethal Lockdown and World title match. The only bad I would say is Kip vs BG and I feel any time given to that would have been better served well any where. Adding it the historical value especially for Samoa Joe fans pick this one up if you can find it.
