RANDY “MACHO MAN” SAVAGE™ TO BE INDUCTED INTO THE WWE® HALL OF FAME
STAMFORD, Conn., January 12, 2015 – WWE (NYSE:WWE) announced today that Randy “Macho Man” Savage will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by Hulk Hogan™. The posthumous ceremony will take place Saturday, March 28 at SAP Center, as a part of the WrestleMania® 31 Week activities.
“Randy Savage was one of the most iconic Superstars in WWE history,” said WWE Chairman & CEO Vince McMahon. “While millions of fans around the world mourned his passing, they will now be able to celebrate his rightful induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.”
One of the greatest stars in WWE history and a pop-culture icon known for his incredible athleticism, trademark “Ooh, Yeah” catchphrase and elaborate ring attire, Randy “Macho Man” Savage made his WWE debut in 1985. In 1986, he became Intercontinental Champion, holding the title for more than a year until losing it to Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat™ at WrestleMania III in one of the greatest matches in WWE history. At WrestleMania IV, Savage once again made history by becoming WWE Champion in a tournament where he competed in an unprecedented four matches.
At WrestleMania V, Savage lost the WWE Championship to Hulk Hogan, but soon went on to memorable feuds with WWE Hall of Famers Dusty Rhodes™, Ultimate Warrior™ and Jake “The Snake” Roberts™. Savage again made history in 1992 by defeating WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair at WrestleMania VIII to become WWE Champion for a second time. After losing the Championship back to Flair, Savage continued to perform in WWE both in the ring and the broadcast booth until his departure from WWE in 1994. While competing in WCW®, Savage continued to add to his legacy, becoming a multi-time WCW World Heavyweight Champion.

WWE Keeps Teasing Macho Man Randy Savage For Hall of Fame

Earlier this afternoon, WWE did a "Breaking News" update on the WWE Network with Scott Stanford about the possible announcement that the late "Macho Man" Randy Savage will be inducted into the Class of 2015 WWE Hall of Fame during tonight's 1/12 RAW. During the update, Stanford interviewed Savage's brother, Lanny Poffo, and WWE Hall of Famers Ricky Steamboat and "Mean" Gene Okerlund about the possibility of Savage's induction. It was also revealed that should this announcement be made official tonight, WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan will be the one to induct Savage.

WWE Teases Randy Savage Hall of Fame Annoucment

WWE issued the following statement on Monday afternoon hinting that "Macho Man" Randy Savage will be the first official entrant into the Class of 2015 WWE Hall of Fame this year.

"It’s not official yet, but it is expected that “Macho Man” Randy Savage will be announced tonight on Raw as the first inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame’s Class of 2015, WWE.com has learned.

 

One of the most colorful characters and most popular Superstars in WWE history, fans worldwide have been clamoring for Savage’s induction since the hallowed Hall opened its doors. Even WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin broached the topic in his must-see live podcast on WWE Network with Mr. McMahon just weeks ago. The WWE Chairman said that Savage would “definitely” take his place in the Hall of Fame, though he did not indicate when.

A former two-time WWE Champion, Intercontinental Champion and WCW Champion, the late “Macho Man” also took part in what is considered one of the greatest matches in sports-entertainment history when he battled Ricky “The Dragon Steamboat at WrestleMania III.

The 2015 WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony takes place on Saturday March 28, the night before WrestleMania 31, at San Jose's SAP Center. Tickets for the event go on sale this Saturday at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT.

WWE Considering Randy Savage Hall of Fame Induction Again

According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE’s new DVD on Randy Savage may be the first step toward the Hall of Fame induction that is a long time coming. As you may recall, Savage was on the outs with WWE for years all the way up to his death and following his passing, it took WWE a long time to warm to the idea of inducting him into the Hall of Fame. Once they did, Lanny Poffo balked and claimed that Savage wanted the entire Poffo family to go in as a group in reparation for McMahon refusing to book Angelo Poffo in an old-timer battle royal during Savage’s run with the company, which Savage saw as a slight.

However, the new DVD/Blu-Ray set notable has a full-length documentary on Savage, something the original Savage set in 2009 lacked. The set has interviews with both Lanny and Judy Poffo, which is seen as a sign that relations between the two have thawed. The belief is that this DVD is a prelude to Savage going into the Hall of Fame, possibly as soon as next year.

In an interesting note, the new set vaguely addresses the long-standing rumor that Savage’s ostracization from the company had to due with an affair with Stephanie McMahon when she was underage. The site reports that there is a segment about how the company has ignored Savage since 2001 (which in reality they’ve ignored him since just after he left in 1994, but acknowledging it at all is surprising). Lanny Poffo notes that Savage was angry about HHH’s interview where he called Savage a dinosaur and then brings up the video where Savage said, “Triple H, I’ll bitch slap you and then take your girl.”

Lanny noted in response to that, “All that does is throw gasoline on the fire.”

Opinionated View- All I can is it's about time. Saveage not being in the WWE Hall of Fame is like not having Pete Rose in the Baseball Hall of Fame. Ironically Rose is the WWE Hall of Fame.
