TNA Offically Annouces Josh Matthews Is Joining Broadcast Team

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (December 18, 2014) – TNA, today, announced seasoned broadcaster Josh Mathews will join Taz to form the new IMPACT WRESTLING announce team. With Mathews doing play-by-play and Taz color-commentary, the new IMPACT WRESTLING announce team will debut during the LIVE broadcast of IMPACT WRESTLING on Destination America from New York City on Wednesday, January 7 at 9/8c.

“Josh Mathews is a dynamic talent who brings great energy and experience to commentating,” said John Gaburick, TNA’s Executive Vice President of Television. “I’ve had the pleasure to work with Josh for many years and know he, alongside Taz, will captivate fans and enhance the viewing experience.”

Raised in Indiana, Mathews moved to New York as a teenager to pursue his professional wrestling career and quickly established himself as a leading voice in sports entertainment and professional wrestling.

“I was amped up when I heard the news Mathews would be joining me to announce IMPACT WRESTLING on Destination America,” said Taz. “Our goal is to be the best announce team in wrestling today, combining Mathews’ work ethic and experience with mine alongside the best roster in wrestling. I am looking forward to sitting next to my friend and new announce partner on January 7 in New York City.”

IMPACT WRESTLING debuts on Destination America with a special LIVE broadcast on Wednesday, January 7 from 9-11 PM ET, televised from New York City’s legendary Manhattan Center. IMPACT WRESTLING will move to its permanent time slot on Fridays from 9-11 PM ET beginning January 16 on Destination America. And, IMPACT WRESTLING: UNLOCKED with Mike Tenay premieres in its permanent time slot on Saturdays from 10 AM-Noon ET beginning January 17.

TNA Changing Annouce Team Up?

As noted, TNA is planning another reboot for Impact Wrestling with a new look and more, when they premiere on Destination America in January.

Current plans for former WWE announcer Josh Mathews to replace Mike Tenay as the lead announcer. Mathews will be working with Taz. It's expected that Tenay will keep an on-air role.

Opinionated View- I'm torn. I get wanting to update the sound and look of the show. I do think Mathews is a good announcer but I don't think he's as good as Tenay.

Josh Mathews Has Been Working In TNA Headquarters

- Josh Mathews has been working out of TNA’s headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee. He said on social media that he’s working on a Youtube program with Rockstar Spud called “I’m With Spud”. It will be released every Wednesday. It features Spud’s thoughts on that week’s Impact.

It’s still unknown when Mathews will make his debut on TNA TV.

Josh Matthews-TNA Update: Is He Now Working for TNA?

 According to Pwinsider.com, Josh Matthews’ 90-day non-complete clause with WWE has ended, and he has started to work for TNA. The report noted that source has stated that Mathews has relocated to Nashville and is already working out of the TNA offices. The feeling is that it is only a matter of time before he is used on TV. Josh Mathews Released Due To Budget Cuts

As we reported yesterday, Josh Mathews was released from the WWE. It's now being reported that his release wasn't due to anything he did wrong, but it was because of the company's recent budget cuts. Mathews was said to be "at the bottom of the list" of announcers. His release was a huge surprise to many in WWE.

Josh Matthews Released by WWE

Longtime WWE announcer Josh Mathews was released by the company over the last 24 hours according to a report by Mike Johnson. Mathews had been with WWE as an announcer since right after the first season of WWE Tough Enough, which Mathews took part in, ended in 2001.

Mathews was mostly used a backstage interviewer, but was used on commentary for Smackdown, ECW on SyFy, NXT, Superstars, Velocity and guest spots on RAW during his tenure with the company. Mathews recently hosted the pre and post-game shows for the WWE Network prior to RAW, Smackdown and all PPVs. WWE has removed Mathews' profile from WWE.com and added it to their Alumni section earlier today, but have yet to confirm his release from the company as of Wednesday afternoon.
