Billy Corgan Surprising People In TNA

When Billy Corgan was first hired as a TNA creative team member, there were many who felt it was just a publicity stunt and he wouldn’t do much. However, Corgan has been surprising people in the company as he worked his first set of tapings recently. He was said to be “very hands on” and put a lot of time and effort in the job. He has been praised for his interest in TNA, being willing to learn and talking time to talk with talents to give his thoughts and suggestions. He came into the company knowing about the product, characters and storylines.

AP Picks Up Story on Bill Corgan Joining TNA

Dan Gelston of The Associated Press is featuring an article about Billy Corgan signing with TNA Wrestling as the new senior producer of creative and talent development.
Both Corgan and TNA President Dixie Carter talk about how the position isn't a part time gig and how he will be heavily involved with the company going forward.

Billy Corgan: "I'm not here as celebrity. I'm here as a skilled person that brings a lot of experience to the table. I don't need fame. It's really about the talent."

Dixie Carter: "This won't be a side job. I talk to him more and we correspond more than most of my employees here."

Breaking News Billy Corgan Joins TNA Creative

Variety.com has a new article up today about Smashing Pumpkins lead singer Billy Corgan and that he has signed with TNA to be a part of their creative team. Corgan, a long-time wrestling fan dating back to the days of the original ECW, had been the head creative man for the Resistance Pro independent promotion out in Chicago up until 2014.

Corgan said the following to Variety.com about the signing with TNA:

There is a tremendous opportunity to go into really fresh, new directions. There are ways to explore those themes in ways that are productive, create new stars and show that value-based 'babyfaces', no matter what their background, no matter where they come from, can draw new audiences and inspire people in new ways."

 

TNA President Dixie Carter on the signing:

"The company needs to have a greater depth to their existing characters. We want the stories to have a depth and a meaning to someone that is relevant today. Billy can really help that."

Opinionated View- I'm sure a lot of people are going to write this as TNA just looking to bring in celebrity. Of course those people will ignore the fact Corgan has booked a pretty popular indy company. Listening to the interview he sounds very smart and a guy who is coming in into this company to make a difference not just some guy showing up for some pay check.

Billy Corgan Reportedly Had Issues With Resistance Pro Owners

When Billy Corgan announced his departure from Chicago promotion Resistance Pro over the weekend, he didn’t explain why. He also didn’t say what it meant for the reality series he was working on or if he planned to stay in the wrestling business. It appears as though Corgan may have had problems with the co-owners of the promotion, Gabriel and Jacques Baron.
Corgan, who had the final say in creative matters, started to become frustrated and decided to leave after several wrestlers “went into business for themselves” during the filming of the AMC series based on Corgan’s work with Resistance Pro. He decided that it was the last straw after a series of problems and left. Another version of the story suggests that the Barons were giving the wrestlers instructions that they claimed were “given to them by Corgan.” When Corgan asked why they acted a certain way, they said it was what he wanted. This happened with names like Robert Anthony, Darcy Dixon, Nikki St. John and Jay Bradley and more.
Corgan was the person that led to the AMC reality show deal, as well as the hype and talk about the promotion. It’s unknown what will happen to the show now that he’s gone. Sources connected to Corgan mentioned his frustration with the lack of promotion for live events, the lack of sponsorships and flat ticket sales, which weren’t good for someone with Corgan’s name value. Corgan even tried to contact Lou D’Angeli (former WWE executive and Cirque du Soliel executive), who he’s known since ECW, for help with promotion and sponsorship. D’Angeli was a part of the promotion but left after he was forced to choose between Corgan and Raven, who gave him his break.
One wrestler said: “The locker room is disenchanted, to say the least. Too many broken promises and none of them came from Corgan.”
Corgan doesn’t appear to be done with professional wrestling. It appears as though he is working on new project with talent from Resistance Pro and outside the promotion. He may do something similar to what Tommy Dreamer does with House of Hardcore, but there’s no word on when that might happen.

Restiance Pro Issues Statement on Departure of Billy Corgan

Resistance Pro Wrestling owners Jacques & Gabriel Baron issued the following statement to Jason Powell on the departure of musician Billy Corgan from the company as their creative director last week:

As many of you may have heard, Billy Corgan has left his role as Creative Director for RESISTANCE Pro. Owners Gabriel and Jacques Baron – as well as the staff and roster of RESISTANCE Pro – will be eternally in his debt for everything he did during his time with us. He opened up doors and offered opportunities to us that would otherwise had been unobtainable for an independent professional wrestling promotion. His creative outlook and noble dedication to charity have inspired us since day one, and we will continue to keep those lessons near and dear to our hearts. There would not have been a RESISTANCE Pro without him guiding it since its inception back in 2011, and we will always respect and be in his debt for that.

Billy Corgan announces departure from Resistance Pro Wrestling

Smashing Pumpkins' frontman Billy Corgan announced that he is no longer with the Resistance Pro Wrestling independent promotion. "For those interested, I've left Resistance Pro Wrestling, officially and unofficially," Corgan wrote on Twitter. "Details to follow in the coming weeks. Bad news for Billy Corgan's unnamed wrestling project?

AMC is getting out of the unscripted television business. Deadline.com reports that the only unscripted shows that will continue are Talking Dead and Comic Book Men, while production or development of other unscripted shows is being discontinued. The story notes that producers will have the option of finding another home for their unscripted projects. Read more atDeadline.com.

Billy Corgan's unnamed wrestling project is not mentioned in the story, but the project was slated to run on AMC. There's no official word yet regarding the future of the Corgan's show, which was set to focus on the Resistance Pro Wrestling promotion that is based out of Chicago.

AMC Green Lights Billy Corgan Wrestling Show

Brian Steinberg of Variety is reporting that AMC approved three new unscripted series including an untitled project involving Billy Corgan and his Resistance Pro wrestling company based out of Chicago. The series will feature eight 60 minute episodes.

"Untitled Billy Corgan Wrestling Project will consist of eight 60-minute episodes. The leader of The Smashing Pumpkins is now creative director of Resistance Pro, a Chicago-based wrestling league.Viewers will see Corgan create storylines, choreograph fights and manage intense post-match locker room arguments. Produced by Left/Right (“Small Town Security,” “This American Life,” “Mob Wives”); Executive Producers: Ken Druckerman, Banks Tarver, Billy Corgan, and Ghen Maynard."

TNA President Dixie Carter Comments on Bill Corgan Rumors

Nate Rau of The Tennessean is featuring an interview with TNA President Dixie Carter where she addresses rumors that hit the internet about "Smashing Pumpkins" lead singer Billy Corgan reportedly showing interest in either purchasing or investing in the company.

Carter added, "Since we have been in business going on 12 years now, this has been an ongoing (speculation), ‘Oh, we’re going out of business. We’re not going to make it.' Ever since we started, people were taking odds on how long we would last. This last time I think a lot of it was perpetuated by a story that Billy Corgan from Smashing Pumpkins was going to buy it. I texted Billy and I said, ‘Oh really, so you’re going to buy my company? Are you excited? That’s cool.’ And he said, ‘Oh, don’t you love rumors.'

Billy Corgan's camp responds to TNA sale rumors

Newsday.com reporter Josh Stewart reached out to a spokesman Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins and asked about rumors that he is interested in buying the company. "There is no reason to comment on rumors," the spokesman said. "Billy is completely focussed on Resistance Pro's upcoming second anniversary." Read the story at Newsday.com.

Billy Corgan May Not Be Able To Buy TNA On His Own

While Billy Corgan may be interested in buying TNA if it's for sale, word is that he doesn't have the financial means to both buy it and maintain it on a long-term basis. There have been reports that he has a "wealthy friend" who could invest as a co-owner, but these are just rumors for now and there is no evidence.

Meanwhile, there are several others ahead of Corgan in line who are also interested in buying TNA.
